Rock garden is one of the famous site in Chandigarh. Rock Garden Chandigarh is a sculpture garden for rock enthusiasts. After 18 years of hard work Nek Chand has built this garden with waste material. The Rag Dolls Museum is an integral part of the Rock Garden, one of the signature landmarks of Chandigarh. UT administrator V P Singh Badnore inaugurated the much awaited Dolls Museum at Phase III of the Rock Garden to mark the second death anniversary of Rock Garden creator Nek Chand. The museum comprises 200 rag dolls made from waste cloth by Nek Chand in 1970s. Village scenes like chaupal, huts, trees, swings, etc., were created to provide the backdrop to around 200 dolls. Women are depicted spinning the charkha, cooking, enjoying conversations with each other and celebrating festivals and weddings, dressed in colourful clothes and their day to day jewellery. Similarly, men are clad in dhoti, kurtas, and pagris, and are shown smoking hukkas, discussing village affairs in the chaupal, meditating under the trees and dancing in wedding processions. Some new dolls were also made on the same theme, which are also pary of the museum. The look and feel of the museum is inspired by a village where artificial trees and huts are installed. Day to day activities of the villagers are showcased through these dolls in this museum. Rag Dolls Museum was created during the third phase of construction inside Rock Garden.
