Please note: you can get very decent FPS (around 45-60FPS) on Spider-Man Miles Morales on this device with 1280x800, low preset, FSR upscaling and Dynamic Resolution Scaling set to 60. Slightly lower FPS with XESS. It runs way smoother now than at first. Probably due to Steam not pausing game downloads when in-game which apparently can cause a dramatic hit in performance. Make sure to manually pause any background downloads when playing on this device!

My first handheld was Tiger Electronics Spider Man. I miss those days
Aging myself here, but my first game boy was the "oops" import of the huge brick one from Japan. Then pocket, color, etc.

Incredible that a game like RDR2 can play so smoothly on a portable. When this game came out it was killing consoles and PCs. New tech like FSR surely helps but also a testament to long term improvements by the developers and also the state of silicon improving after just 3-4 years.
My personal best settings for RDR2 on the steam deck didn't include FSR and I got away with ultra textures. It stays locked to 30fps while looking good or 40fps with low graphics.
@@nbain66 that doesn’t make any sense, it’s only a 10 fps difference between ultra and low? If your getting 30 on ultra you should get 60 on low
@@mrgamerwatch100 Ultra textures only. Most of the other settings are medium for the 30fps setup. To hold 40 FPS you're looking at low settings with Ultra textures as well. The 16GB of shared memory is plenty to keep textures that high.
I think the reason performance was so low in a few games (Miles Morales, TLOU Part 1) is because you are downloading games in the background. Game downloads use a good portion of the CPU! Performance should be quite a bit higher once downloads are completed
prob right but this day and age you should be able to download and play the games imo
@@xdzombiezz4163You can, it’s just the nature of this device. It’s a computer powered by an APU in a thermally limiting chassis. Running intense games utilizing 90%+ of its resources leaves little room for Steam to download and write games to the disk without some compromise (in this case, gaming performance).

As someone who pre-ordered the regular Steam Deck the day it was announced, i'm glad to see that Valve has been successful and is releasing new iterations of it.
Same. And they kept the pricing. Could have easily bumped the cost by $100 and got away with it.

25 years ago we couldn't even imagine a game like RDR2 let alone playing something like that on a handheld. We would have laughed at the idea.

Yes! I have the first Steam Deck and I am enjoying it. I thank you for showing us the new Oled Steam Deck. It looks good. If Valve releases a more powerful Deck, I will wait to get that one.
What games do you play and how is the performance for you?
@@loveArtnotFoodvery good and I have the 64gb playing off sd card, cyberpunk medium to high settings 30fps, gta v max settings 45fps, battlefield V medium 50+FPS, back 4 blood max settings 45-55fps, watch dogs 2 high settings 40fps, Far cry 5 max settings 40-50fps, insurgancy Sandstorm medium 50fps, also played cyberpunk and battlefield v on monitor 1080p: Battlefield v medium 40-50fps, cyberpunk medium 28-32 FPS, cyberpunk is a demanding game and it handled it in 1080p off sd card. Performance is great don’t let others fool you.

@@IPowder4105 buy Rog Ally which is even more expensive than a new Steam Deck OLED with 1TB, using Windows OS, full of bloatware, even knowing ASUS' terrible customer service? No thanks and I doubt even Rog Ally is worth it in price/performance.
The ROG Ally would only be worth it for GamePass players, and there's also the Lenovo Legion Go.

Everyone was playing games a raspberry pi could run at 100 fps. I literally was so confused why no one was testing the triple A games
He did play while downloading games on the background, which hurt the performance of some games, so not the best testing.

@sanstheelumbu I dont play anything really demanding, but on monster hunter rise I got a bit more than 2h playing with max graphics ( only shadow on average), 90hz and HDR on.
the best part about this review is the rise of kong gameplay. amazing!

took me half an hour to get through to the checkout earlier, but managed to get one eventually. been playing my managers one for some time, nice little bits of kit. will install windows and use it as a computer as well.
bought the 512gb version for when i want to just relax and not sit at my desk. its hardware is no where as good as my desktop but im still excited.
Me too, and if some day there's a game that doesn't run on the Deck that I'd really like to play on it, I could just stream it from my desktop and lie on the couch. All the updates make the Deck Oled such a great remote play machine that I don’t think it will ever be obsolete. Valve is goated.

People don’t realize, yes you’re not gonna run triple A new releases that great… it’s a godly emulation device though. Probably the best.

I played through the entire Spider-Man: Miles Morales on my Steam Deck at around medium settings and with locked 30 FPS. Either something was downloading in the background, or there's some other issue. I'd try again after restarting the Steam Deck and maybe redownloading the game.

The fact this runs GTA 5 on 90fps is unreal! I played through the whole game on PS3 back in 2013 and just the thought of having it even playable (let alone at 90fps) on a portable handheld is just insane!
The original Steam Deck couldn't consistently hit over 50fps, do you know how this one is able to hit 90fps? I thought it only had 5-8% more performance than the LCD???!
I noticed that 90 FPS! That’s amazing! I also had read that the increase in performance would be small for the Oled edition but this is amazing!!

@@AsAWhiteManMarriedToALatina Steamdeck's performance is through software optimization. Under normal circustances, the machine would struggle to run a lot of these games but Valve has been incredible with support and this is the result. This is kind of what consoles makers do... how do you think RDR2 runs on that crappy jaguar PS4 CPU?
Sometimes it even beats the ROG Ally which is supposed to be more powerful.

@@laplthelullemann It's also a game that ran at only 30fps on 7th and 8th gen consoles, so triple that while maintaining decent graphical quality is pretty damn good. And the device doesn't seem like it's getting stressed to the max (around 85% GPU usage and like 60% CPU usage) so you could likely bump up the graphics settings.

Wut bout the ps5 steam deck
I really want this model for the improvements but I think I'm going to wait out for SD2. It's a steep price and I feel like they are gonna announce the next one not too long after this one. Consoles love to do that, have a midway upgrade then drop a full upgrade like 2-6 months later.
they already said they don't plan on releasing SD2 until late 2025 at the earliest if not 2026. So you'll be waiting 2 years at a minimum.
"Steep price" It's cheaper than the old SD. 64gb version has been replaced with 256gb for the same price with better specs.
1TB version is the same as the 512gb.
All the old version decks have had a price reduction.
Steam Deck 2 isnt coming until at earliest 2025. Also not sure what youre talking about with consoles, I cant remember a single one that got an "upgrade" and then the full upgrade 2-6 months later
If youre not the type to use the Deck that much then wait, but theres always something "better" 2+ years away. Just seems pointless if youll know youre going to like it now and you can afford it (like the other person said, this costs the same as the original Deck was costing 2 weeks ago but with more storage, really not too nuts in price)

Suggestion: show us the total power draw ( it’s right next to the batt % or it should be )
This shows how much the system is actually drawing sense tdp doesn’t meant much. Overall powerdraw is much more important.
A game like gta 5 could get 4 hours sense it’s a older title. ( retro games Corp did a good video showcasing battery life )
