      Yes, it's a beautiful contrast. it's a great difference between the Hispanic style McMansion and this descent and stylish but small house. A beautiful example that bigger doesn't mean better. Money doesn't buy taste.

    I'm usually a huge fan of big spaces over little ones because there's so much more opportunities to play with space if you have more of it. But I will allow that "small CAN BE beautiful"... if it doesn't FEEL small! I really have to admire how Neutra manages to combine light and transparency with privacy and cosyness in this design.
    Thanks a million, Jop, for once more expanding my architectural horizon! Until next time!;)

Very different than John Lautner (which is my favorite architect) but still I love them. Next video I will return to John Lautner: it will be about John Lautner's Segel House!

      That's one of the reasons I started this channel: to make the lay out of the houses understandable. I have read a lot books but never could get an overview of the design of the houses. Only when I started to search the internet and collected the photos: I puzzled the houses together! I had the same problem as you: didn't knew where the kids bedroom once was and how it was removed. Great that I can help other people with the same problems I once had!

      @RyanJohnsonD The Kaufman desert house was designed in 1946 this one in 1948, so about the same time. Most designs by Neutra are similar and design from a formulaic approach: with a flat roof and arms pointing the landscape. So you're right! Most Neutra house from this period look like this

    Thanks Jop, for another great presentation on the Case Study program - well done!. I must admit No20 is not one of my favourite case study houses, it seems very much a lazy project from Neutra, not really as innovative as his other works. But pleasant enough all the same. Great that you liked the video. What's you favorite Casestudy House? I think number 20 is not the best (22 or 20B in my opinion) but still very lovely. Also very typical for Neutra. It's a top 5 of CSH designs.

      @@SuperJobbel Hey Jop, there are many to choose from, that are both ground breaking and inspiring, but if I'm honest I am always really drawn to 21. I know its so simple (good design always is) but its that interaction of user spaces that I find it so appealing with just the right level of exposure and privacy within this design. If its materials were adjusted for current time, I think it is still very relevant to modern life. I run/own an architectural design studio in NZ called "Pure Design", so I guess thats my excuse! - LOL G

    The simplicity and useful alignment of this build makes it as relevant today as it was then. Not spectacular, but that wasn’t the aim of case study houses. John Lautner took some of these concepts into account, and made spectacular. Thx for this presentation

      @SuperJobbel  2 месяца назад

      Yes Lautner made his own version of a Case Study House with the Harpel 1 house, check my video about the 1st Harpel house, it looks very much like CSH design. Indeed not spectaculair but very economic and beautiful.

      Nee, ik ben geen architect. Ik heb de kunstacademie gedaan en ben nu werkzaam als Docent Beeldende Vorming (tekenleraar) in het onderwijs. Daarnaast maak ik illustraties/ teken portretten. Architectuur is mijn passie en ik verzamelde de foto's van deze gebouwen al een hele tijd. Om de weten hoe de gebouwen nu precies in elkaar zitten ben ik de tekeningen erbij gaan zoeken. Omdat ik vond dat er te weinig informatie over de huizen op internet te vinden was, ben ik begonnen met het maken van videos hierover. Er komen nog veel meer videos aan, want ik heb nog een hele verzameling foto's en tekeningen!
