  • After the disappointment in part 1, we had to make a plan!! We decide to visit the Doornkloof Nature Reserve about 46km outside Colesburg in the Northern Cape Province. This gave us a chance to explore an area of South Africa that we have never been to before. It turned out to be a great little Reserve with loads of potential.
We also go for a quick paddle before the strong winds took hold and we also explore the Gariep Nature Reserve in a bit more detail.
Thanks so much to all our new subscribers and to everyone who has made the time to visit our channel and watch our videos. You guys are awesome, and this really gives us the inspiration to keep making videos to share with everyone.

We were at Doornkloof for a day visit in May 2019. The chalets were already there and fully equipped but looked like they’d never been used. The crockery still had price tags on them. The spots you refer to as fishing spots are actually campsites and the ablution blocks are for the campers. We went to take a look because I couldn’t find any information about the reserve and even people living in Vanderkloof couldn’t tell me anything about the place. Actually turned out to be a pleasant surprise and we saw quite a lot of game on the drive beyond the chalets.

Yes, we got the impression that the Chalets were by no means a new build. When we exited the reserve we spoke to someone who mentioned the beginning of March as a possible opening date - they were just waiting for the last few odds and ends. Apparently the money is allocated by the NC Dept of Tourism. We didn't see too much game, but it was extremely hot, so I think the game was laying low. Thanks for your feedback, always nice to hear other people's experiences. Best regards, Wayne and Lynda.
