So JoJos Bizarre Adventure is a Manga Series that started in 1987 and is still going to this day. Spanning over 8 parts, soon to be 9, aswell as a bunch of questionably canon spin-off mangas and VideoGames, Jojos bizarre adventure is one of the most influential series in japan. And didnt really get popular outside of Japan until 2012 shere studio David Productions started making the faithful Anime adaption, currently on part 6 which is actually going to release in chunks every few months instead of weekly. Each part has its own cast of characters and protagnist but still follows the adventures of a member of the Joestar Family, who, yes, nickname ends up somehow being JoJo. With the community, memeability, and sense of adventure, JoJo is one of my favorite Anime and Manga series ever and i cant wait for more people to get into it

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Not only is it old, its been influential in other Japanese pop culture media since pretty much its inception. So much so that chances are any given kid that played video games back in the classic days of the 80's and 90's played a game with a JoJo Easter egg reference in it. They are especially common in games from Capcom and Konami. Games series such as Street Fighter, Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, and Resident Evil all feature Easter eggs and/or design elements directly inspired by JoJo, and that's just talking about a handful of old franchises as an example. The influence is present in many other works of media, over the entire span of time from the late 80's until the present.
Due to the huge time delay of the popularization of JoJo in the west, compared to other Japanese media that were inspired by it, a kind of phenomenon started happening where peoples minds were getting blown by how much stuff from their childhoods actually contained JoJo references, that they started questioning if literally everything was a JoJo reference.

The thing about the licensed games for these anime is that they expect that you have seen the series already. They take the character's signature moves from their main series and condense them into a a super move for the game, though as you can see they're still a bit lengthy. For an outsider it may seem like all spectacle, but to an avid fan these moves reference an impactful moment in the series. I'll leave the explanation and details to the other comments but know that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a wonderful series with great characters and strange powers that lead to some creative storytelling.

In a game like this, context is EVERYTHING. Since it's a game that brings together characters from different parts of the JoJo universe, it's really meant for people who have read the comics or seen the show. If you just jump into it blind, you might not be able to enjoy it, let alone understand anything that's going on. It's a disadvantage this game has compared to something like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.

The only game where a magical bird was literally banned from tournaments for being completely broken. Also, most of the Stand and Overdrive move names are changed. In Japan, they're the titles of famous rock songs, and the Stands (the alter egos) are also named after many classic rock hits. Obviously in litigious lawsuit land, (aka america) these names are changed.

JoJo's influenced and inspired a lot of things and there are tons of JoJo's references scattered around the world. Like in video games, other anime shows, etc... It is also the only series I know to have collabs with famous brands like Lumine, Gucci, Mercedes Benz, LG. Araki (the author/creator) has also done a comic for the Louvre gallery (Rohan at the Louvre, THE BIGGEST museum in the world, and a cover page for the UOMO fashion magazine, uniqlo and glamb (clothing; mostly t-shirts), perfect suit FActory (suits) and seiko (watches). He was also commissioned to illustrate a few CD and book covers, and a science magazine cover.

So... I never saw someone enter the JoJo world via the fighting game, that was interesting. As the name suggests this anime is bizarre, the story is original and entertaining with a lot of real-world references, most of the names of the stands can be traced to old school bands like "Red Hot Chili Peppers", the JoJo name is being created since '87 and the author is still making more and more without losing the magic of what JoJo is. Jojo is a giant in the Japanese industry and I strongly suggest you two enter this world, watching the whole series might be overkill for now, maybe start by reacting to the openings, the spoilers are minor if you intend to watch it. Each part of this Anime centers on a different lineage of the JoJo Tree/family where they have to face their common enemies. The Anime starts with Vampires and evolves into a mad, crazy, and... bizarre experience. It's actually super wholesome and captivating.

So the ghost figures that are beside most of the characters are called Stands which are the physical manifestation of a person's fighting spirit and will, they mostly look like humans but sometimes can be animals, objects, or even the Stand user themselves in some cases. They all have unique abilities than can range from turning stuff into bombs to stopping time. And another iconic trait from Jojo is their Stand barrages or the "crazy fists" where that Stand will just rapid punch while they yell out their Stand cry like the "Ora ora ora ora" or "Muda muda muda muda".
The best part is that in Jojo, you can only see another Stand if you have a Stand yourself otherwise to the average person their just invisible. So you could literally see 2 Stand users fighting and wouldn't know it and one of them just gets suddenly turned into a pulp into the ground out of thin air.

The astral projections are called Stands, which are physical manifestations of one's fighting spirit. They can have all sorts of shapes and powers, their designs being really creative. Also, the last character in the video, Baoh, isn't from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. He's a guest character from the manga "BAOH", which was also made by Araki (the creator of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure), but came before Jojo. Baoh used to be a normal guy, but was kidnapped and had a super parasite implanted into him, allowing him to transform into what you see in the video, and getting a whole lot of superpowers, at the cost of being unable to talk, see or hear (he can only smell.) when transformed.

Jojos is one hell of a ride. The kinda thing where you're just along for the ride and it just keeps getting wilder and wilder.
The author, Araki, loves western music so a lot of his characters have been named after popular artists and songs. The "Astral Projections" are called Stands because they "Stand" beside you in battle. Its a manifestation of your fighting spirit and each one has a unique ability. They range from being super fast and powerful to bending all of reality. Most main characters with a stand have a battle cry they repeat when they use their stand.
Ora is a recurring one for the main Joestar family members. Its a taunt translating to "Come on!" basically.
Muda is another that translates to "Useless"
The series spans 8 seasons, or "parts" as theyre called, only 5 animated in their entirety with the 6th being worked on. 7 and 8 are still only in manga form. Each one has a new main cast with a new premise with the only constants being the main character is a part of the Joestar family bloodline. The series starts in like the 1800s i believe and goes all the way to modern day. As such you get to see your favorite characters grow and then watch as their descendants carry on the legacy of the family. Each main Joestar has a different attitude or methodology but each share a great sense of righteousness.

I didn't see anyone in the comments answer this, so I'll try - since the series started in the 80s in Japan, there simply weren't that many female leads. Sure, Hirohiko Araki (the author of the manga) put a handful of supporting/background/relatively minor characters in the series ever since the first part (manga is divided into parts for each main JoJo), but there wasn't THAT much to see. From what I remember (and correct me if I'm wrong, folks), Araki said he wasn't that good with drawing women so we didn't have any leads. That is, until part 6, Stone Ocean, where Araki finally got the permission from the magazine that published his work to have a female lead! We could've had it already in part 5 but people were opposed to that ToT

Yeah, to explain Panacotta Fugo's Stand....
It's a ridiculously OP Stand that goes by Purple Haze(If you're a fan of Jimi Hendrix.)
    (FROM THE WIKI)
Because of its deadly ability and its potential for indiscriminate destruction, Purple Haze is rarely used by Fugo as stated by Abbachio. However, it is undeniably Strong stand.
Purple Haze is an unstable Stand that contains a particularly deadly, flesh-eating virus in each of the three bulbs on each of its hands.
When a bulb breaks, usually because Purple Haze punches something, the virus is released and surrounds the Stand as a cloud of purple gas. In the case where Purple Haze is unable to shatter the bulbs through direct contact, it can release them from its knuckle like a pressurized gun so that they can shatter on impact.
Any living thing that enters the range of the virus is immediately infected. The virus rapidly multiplies within the victims body, overrides their metabolic functions and makes them rot from the inside.
An adult human being will melt into organic goo within 30 seconds at best. Fortunately, the virus, despite its deadly nature, is very fragile and dies quickly when exposed to the elements, such as sunlight. Even indoor light is enough to kill the virus quickly. Thus, the range of the virus is very short.
Some of these stands are OP.

You guys should definitely watch the series it takes a lot of open minded-ness though. The main appeal to Jojo is the fashion and music culture references. Its very inspired by modeling and stuff like vogue. The most iconic thing about Jojo is the posing. The Japanese comic series started in 1987 and is still going so its also nice to see the artistic evolution. The series art starts off with the characters looking REALLY buff but as the series goes on the author/illustrator really masters his art style and fashion. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a wonderful anime/manga with crazy good lore, good storytelling (Save for a few rare moments) and extremely memorable characters. This is one Anime I would definitely recommend watching simply for the sheer creativity of the characters and powers used in it. If you decide to do so, a word of warning, the anime does have extremely brutal and bloody moments like it does no hold back on what it does at time. Apart from that though I would, once again recommend watching it, whether on your own time or on youtube if you want fans to explain what's going on in the series. It is quite a fun and creative ride.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames you’re welcome. The series has a lot of characters with different sources of power. Some people use hamon, others are vicious vampires, some are a race of humanoid creatures who can freely manipulate their body(the guy who used the blood vessels to burn the other guy), other characters use stands(a manifestation of their will power that reflects their personality). It’s also pretty cool since it follows a new generation of the Joestar family in each arc. The art style is very unique and the art is also in a museum.

A lot of these just make no sense at all until you actually see the show. Like with the guy who throws the kid, for example. What he's doing is he's placed his Stand/astral projection inside of him so that if anyone tries to figure out that the guy's the killer by asking the kid, who is the only one who knows the truth, then the 'bomb' will kill that person that asked before blowing up time, itself, to reset the universe. Doing this results in any people he kills still dying, but now they just explode for seemingly no reason at all and the entire arc is about this kid trying to find a way to tell people this guy is the killer without triggering the effect. If I remember right, this literally resets the timer.
BUT if you don't know all of that, then it's just like: Dude throws a kid -> There's a Stand in his eye(?) -> Random explosion...? -> Reality warps??? -> The guy says "it worked" for some reason?????
Then there's people like the American Flag guy, president Funny Valentine. His whole power is that if someone's between two objects then he can transport them to an alternate universe where everyone has a counterpart. So he can call in his own alternate universe selves to beat the crap out of you ORR he can send you to an alternate universe. And because you don't have his power, instead of working with your other self you merge with them and are turned into quantum sponges, which are apparently a real thing in theoretical physics.
But if you don't know, it's just like: Pulls you under the American flag -> There's multiple copies of everyone -> The other guy is drawn to his other self...? -> The explode into sponges...???
One of the weirdest ones is Diavolo the man with the long pink hair. His Stand power is so confusing that it's a meme to not understand how King Crimson actually works. Essentially, what it does is he can see 10 seconds into the future and then erase 10 seconds of time. During this period of erased time, only things he wants to happen actually happen, but to everyone else in the world their brain just goes on auto-pilot with whatever they were doing and they have no memory of what happened in the last 10 seconds.
For his super move, he replicates the scene where he reveals his power, which has him give a guy the gift of future sight just to trick them by having them attack where their own future self is going to be before he skips 10 seconds and kills them in the erased time. Doing this ACTUALLY removes 10 seconds from the fight counter and can effect other character skills and mechanics. His other move is his future reading skill, where because he's reading the future he just dodges every move you do.
There's other weirdness, but those are the big ones I'm aware of. Also worth noting every Stand name after Part 3 is a music reference, so there's Stands named Heaven's Door, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Killer Queen (Queen) who uses 'Bites the Dust' as an attack, and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

    • @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames

So the dude in white with the purple cat man stand has quite a complicating ability where he uses the kid, so basically his whole thing is to be a killer without anyone finding out his true identity, so he killed the kid's father and stole his identity, but the kid knows. So he awakened his stand power and is able to "plant" the stand inside the kid. If the kid let a person (we will call them the victim) know that his father is not actually his father, but a killer, that victim will be killed by the stand "guarding" inside the kid, then the death becomes their fate. After the stand killing the victim and no one knows his true identity anymore, time will rewind (to the morning, start of the day or something), and only the kid knows that time has been rewinded, however the victim (even though didnt know anything about the killer at that time) will still die, they will still explode, regardless of the kid telling them about the killer or not. If a person just know about the killer's identity, while the stand is guarding the source of information, they will die no matter what, and time be rewinded.

Ok so basically jojos bizarre adventure is a manga and anime series where all the main characters are in the same family and all have the nickname jojo. there are currently 8 parts (going on 9) in the manga the anime is still on part 6, part 1 and 2 where the first few where they didn’t have the “astral projections”, their power is called hamon and it’s basically sun energy (because the main bad guy was a vampire). In part 3 to 8 they have the “astral projections” that are called stands, and stand is the users fighting spirit incarnated. And every stand has its own ability (such as stopping time, erasing anything from existence, make someone obey your every command, erase time, make the opponent experience death over and over again, etc). A stand can take any form ( such as a humanoid, toy plane, gun, etc) that’s it without spoiling the show (edit) I forgot all the stand have names based on a song album, artist, and song name. :)

So that guy with purple hair that had bird wings is named Kars, he is a pillar man now Ultimate life form.
He is the pinnacle of all life and has the highest IQ, the best hamon (the yellow stuff the first guy, jonathon was using in the SUNLIGHT YELLOW OVERDRIVU!) and has DNA of every animal that walked on earth. Pillar man are essentially vampires, they can’t go out in the sunlight, Kars goal was to be the pinnacle of all life to which he succeeded.... to bad he’s orbiting in space now
The one with the tentacles that burned is esidisi he is a friend of Kars that helped achieve Kars’ goal and can increase his blood tremendously
Wamuu is the one with the wind he is the adopted child of Kars and esidisi, after the two SINGLE HANDED wiped out their entire race except for two infants.
Josuke (part 4) is the one with the weird hair, he essentially loses his shit when someone insults the hair as in his backstory when he was sick (him getting a stand) it was a snowstorm to which his mother couldn’t drive through the snow. Luckily someone came and assisted the two with josukes exact hair cut. Rohan (the artist that got blown up by killer queen bites the dusto) insulted josukes hair SO MUCH josuke almost killed him twice.
Kira yoshikage (part 4) was the one who blew shit up best way I can describe him is he has 3 bombs, normal bomb where anything he touches becomes a bomb. Sheer heart attack which is a heat seeking bomb which the bomb explodes a lot more depending on the heat of the object. Then there’s bites the dust, this bomb is essentially a last resort to prevent his identity being known as this bomb activates if anything is asked to hayato about Kira yoshikage and it appears goes into your retina and blows you up killing you instantly. To the point hayato (the kid he used in the attack) had to change fate so Rohan didn’t endlessly die by bites the dust
What Pucci the priest was doing was saying the things from jotaro kujos memory of reading DIOs (yellow suited vampire) diary, which had the requirements of attaining heaven. Which leads to made in heaven, the white pony stand which moves faster than the speed of sound and light to the point he can make his own reality
Polnareffs stand silver chariot is a stand that is so fast without its armour it out speeds jotaro kujos Star platinum which is the strongest stand (Outside of Golden experience requiem but that is literally busted)
Josuke part 8 (the one with the hat), has a stand that can take things away like, eye sight, friction and other things. He is a fusion of josuke, and yoshikage Kira (not the ones above)
Part 1 and 2 has an ability known as hamon, let’s just say it’s one of the only things that can kill vampires because it’s sunlight energy
Part 3-6 continue off of part 1-2 but introduce Stands, these things are the the physical manifestation of your fighting spirit. Koichi (the one with that weird looking child stand) didn’t originally have a fighting spirit and he was going to die had josuke (Dorararara part 4) saved him.
Part 7-8 is a seperate universe than the other 6 parts. Part 7 is pretty much a race, and it’s about Johnny a paraplegic riding a horse, with his companion gyro zeppeli. (who has one of the best songs called “Pizza mozzarella”) best way I can describe part 7 is “Hey Johnny let’s go finish the race!”, “sorry gyro but Jesus told me to collect his body and kill the president”. Part 8 continues off of part 7 which has characters like josuke (part 8) in it.
There is ALOT more to explain but I would recommend watching jojo really really fast part 1-5 as they pretty much describe what’s going on
Edit: also the guy who turned into a ball and attacked the dog has a massive grudge against him as he made a sand copy of DIO which vanilla ice is a very devoted servant to and hit, GOT VERY ANGRY then proceeded to kick the shit out of Iggy the dog then use the exact same move he used on Iggy

9:52 Normally, DIO (Part 3)'s ultimate attack involves him stopping time for everything except himself, grab a steamroller, and use it to crush his opponent.
However, if the opponent is using Jotaro, they can spend some energy to change the cutscene: Jotaro will use _his_ time-stop powers to escape before the steamroller explodes, and then will try to attack DIO. This does affect gameplay: the Jotaro player will take way less damage than normal, and will be left standing up instead of being knocked down on the floor.
The game actually has a few hidden secrets that refer to the original manga. Some of them actually do affect gameplay.

Not gonna lie this is probably not the best way to be introduced to jojo but the anime is SUPER stylish and the further you go into the anime the more flamboyant/manly the characters look, the creator of jojo love western stuff and he loves the music so alot of the characters are named after bands, songs, artist but due to copyright the anime calls them different names. Last thing I wana say in my opinion to someone who doesn't watch alot of anime jojo should probably not be the first thing but if you've watched enough anime to where you know how wierd it can get then thats probably when you wanna give this show a chance

OH MY GOD JOJO! Ok, ok, ok, ok, so the thing with Jojo that I think you guys will find very cool is that every Stand (besides the ones in Part 3) is named after various songs and bands. SPOILERS AHEAD (not really but I wanna be respectful), some stands are: Killer Queen, Goo Goo Dolls, Made in Heaven, Man in the Mirror, Beach Boy, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, Foo Fighters etc. etc. etc. etc. A majority of Stands in Part 3 are named after Tarot cards: Star Platinum, Magician's Red, Tower of Grey etc. If you don't have a Stand then you can't see them, and each Stand has an ability. Stands also vary drastically in size, shape, and appearance but you saw that haha. Also the reason why some of the characters don't have Stands, those are characters from Part 1 and Part 2. Instead they use a ki-like energy called Hamon (or Ripple). Stands weren't introduced until Part 3. One more thing, every main protagonist has a name that makes up "Jojo" in a way. For the sake of staying spoiler free, even though they're not really spoilers, I won't tell you which characters where a Jojo and which weren't. And the ABSOLUTE last thing.......don't make fun of that one character's hair! It's not worth it!

Everyone has explained about What are Stands and them being named after bands, so I'm not gonna bother that. But I will explain both the main hero and the main villain both bio and stand abilities, mainly parts 3 to 8. Tho I should warn you, if you're interested in watching it for the first time, there are bound to be spoilers from both during the anime/manga and beyond the anime.
Jotaro Kujo (Protag of Part 3: Stardust Crusaders) and DIO (Villain of both Part 1: Phantom Blood and Part 3: Stardust Crusaders): Both abilities are identical and both of them has the power to stop time. However, DIO/Dio Brando's stand "The World" can stop more than 10 seconds while Jotaro's "Star Platinum" can only stop at 5. Also, DIO is a vampire that was born and takes place for part 1 in 18th century meanwhile Part 3 takes place in 1987. There's 1 more character that's missing and that's Dio's pet falcon called Pet Shop who uses a stand called Horus. Fun Fact about this character is that he's one of the most broken character in fighting game history because he can fly over characters and not get hit so much so that he was banned from tournaments because of that.
Taking place in 1999, Jousuke (Protag of Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable) is a highschooler that his stand "Crazy Diamond" has the ability to repair/fix/heal anything that is broken. Yoshikage Kira (Villain of Part 4) is a serial killer that has the tendency to cut off women's hands as he has a..."fetish" for them. He's the 1st villain in the series to have 3 abilities (and believe me, there are a lot of Queen references). His main stand "Killer Queen" has the ability that anything he touches explode without leaving a trace, which is why he was able to get away with a lot of things. His second ability "Sheer Heart Attack" sends out an long range, indestructible heat seeking mini tank that anyone comes in contact will explode. His last ability is "Bite the Dust" that has the ability to rewind time up to one hour. The fun fact about this is that he's the only villain that his main goal wasn't over the top like "taking over the world" or such. He just want to live a quiet life.
Taking place in Italy of 2001, Giorno Giovani (Protag of Part 5: Vento Aureo/Golden Wind) is the son of DIO but wants to do good by eliminating drug trade and becoming a GangSTAR. He's also considered the most broken protag in Shonen history and here's why. His stand "Golden Experience" has the ability to create life and "Golden Experience Requiem" ability is to revert all actions and willpower back to the state of "zero", completely nullifying them and preventing them from becoming "real". For simplicity’s sake, it’s comparable to performing Ctrl-Z (undo), completely denying any causality. He also has the ability where the enemy dies repeatedly that even the user doesn't know. Diavolo (Villain of Part 5) is a Mafia leader and his stand "King Crimson" has 2 abilities: One where he can predict the future and his main ability where he can erase time. Believe me, it's one of the most convoluted and confusing abilities in the series.
Taking place in Florida of 2011, Jolyne Kujo (Protag of Part 6: Stone Ocean) is the first female JoJo protag and also framed from crimes that she didn't do. Her stand "Stone Free" has the ability to create strings/thread from her body. The main villain Enrico Pucci (Villain of Part 6) is a priest that admired DIO and wants to ascend to Heaven. He also has 3 abilities. His main stand "White Snake" is basically All for One: allows him to take and give stands. His second ability "C-Moon" allows him to manipulate gravity. And last, "Made in Heaven" allows him to fast forward time and reset the universe.
Taking place in the wild west of 1890, Johnny Jostar (Protag of Part 7: Steel Ball Run) was once a rich man that turned his life upside down when an event that made him paraplegic. He now becomes horse racer in the Steel Ball Run along with his partner Gyro Zeppelin. His ability "Tusk" gives him the power of Spin and comes in 4 Acts. It gives him the power to shoot his nails like bullets, create holes, and has the ability of Infinite Rotation, distorting cells and deforming enemies. Funny Valentine (Villain of Part 7) is the President of the United States of America. Yes, no lie, the final boss is the President. His stand "D4C" (short for "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap") has the ability to hop between dimensions. Basically he can travel and bring people and/or objects from another universe. However if two of the same beings met, if they get too close to one another, both will crumble, splitting into Menger sponges before obliteration. It's not in this video because this video is missing 1 more DLC character: Diego Brando, who is the only character that has 2 stands (despite that they're two separate characters due to D4C). First was Scary Monsters, an ability that can turn anyone, including himself, turn into dinosaurs. His second is "The World 'High Voltage'", which is basically the same has his Part 3 counterpart.
Taking place in Japan of 2011, Jouskue (Protag of Part 8: JoJolion, however, this isn't Part 4's Joskue as they're completely different characters due to Pucci's universe reset). His stand is "Soft & Wet" (yes that's it's name) and his ability is to create bubbles and takes away physical properties/friction. As for the villain, at the time the game's release, the manga was still ongoing and there was no main villain at the time.
Lastly, the last character in the video isn't a JoJo character, but rather a one-shot prototype project before the creator, Hirohiko Araki, made before JoJo was made. He is called Baoh from the series under the same name made in 1984.
