If its left open the door prevents someone who isn't paying attention from stumbling in to the fishbox and injuring themselves. It also makes opening the door easier and safer on a pitching deck since you cant fall in the fishbox while opening it. If you're having a viking built you can ask them to switch the door.
James Haskell kinda scary when yacht brokers don’t know anything about the engines, I see that a lot. Was looking at a yacht with Volvos and broker said the boats only come with Cummins
@Adam-ok7ks no, it's a semi- custom, production boat. You can't get a fully custom boat from viking. The hull and major structural elements, such as stringers and bulkheads cannot be rearranged.

Nitpick..but why would the fish box lids open towards the center of the deck??? That makes no sense.

Why haven’t they gravitated towards pod drive?
these are rough water/offshore fishing boats they are designed to be tough, pods are not as reliable.
