Fil at Wings of Pegasus showed that there has been some pitch correction used on some of Freddie’s vocals. Horrible

I've heard the new remix. Freddie's voice has been pitch-corrected on just about every track. It doesn't sound to me as if they've done it automatically, it's been done manually, phrase by phrase. It's still something I don't like though. He didn't need "fixing".
It's not all that's been altered. The timing has been played with too on lots of the instruments. Queen 1 was a lot more rough in timing and pitching originally, but I preferred it to be honest. Now it sounds far too "modern", it doesn't sound like an early '70s recording.

yeah ... but Queen did pitch correction on ALL their live recordings too. The unpitched raw concert audio is out there , but their releases were tinkered with. And ya know ? sometimes it wasn't necessary. Other times it would be them being a slight bit sharp on a harmony - but for me it showed them human. BUT the Band pitched that stuff correct before they sold it. So yeah.... Queen would use pitch correction here and there

@@roo2new Oh yeah, you're right. They did do some correction on those live recordings, and they definitely processed Roger's drums too to sound beefier. The latter I didn't mind that much. It's just that I like Freddie's voice as it is, tiny little mistakes and all.

Queen s first album was the one that i discover this band. To me, the original album was and is, perfect.

The drums are startlingly different and just couldnt get over it. I know this album like the back of my hand and at first i was excited cuz i knew the drums sounded crappy to begin with...but quickly i was thinking, these drums are just TOO MUCH! Once I saw they pitch corrected Freddie i was done.

Hi, nice video. It is clearer but that is negated by the pitch-correction of every vocal, the alien drum-sound which is weirdly panned across the stereo image and loud so it dominates the mix to the detriment of the vocals and guitars (always been the stars of these tracks) No bottom end in the mix, it's as if John Deacon's bass didn't exist. No coincidence that Deacon had nothing to do with it. May and Taylor may be happy with it but I no longer trust their aged hearing. The gaslighting from them is ridiculous, to quote Brian 'this is the album we always wanted to make' when there's no way they would have got that processed drum sound - studio or live - in 1972/1973. No other rock artists' recorded drums sounded like this at that time and in the case of Queen their drum sounds on consequent albums throughout the 70's an 80's bear no resemblance to this 2024 version. The original mix sound was by no means perfect but they've gone too far with this, they just needed to rein it back a bit and definitely not pitch-correct.

    • @wjec1970
      @wjec1970 2 месяца назад +2

This is a brilliant comment. I think like you on all of this.
They went way too far with this remixed album - every vocal has been "corrected", the drums don't sound like an early '70s recording any more, way too "produced"/modern.
Even the instruments' timing has been messed with. I've got a good set of ears, and I've heard the original album many times and I'm aware of its "flaws", but I still prefer the old mix because it's kind of a snapshot the time it was recorded in. Now it's too contemporary-sounding.
Brian and Roger definitely are losing it somewhat...and I say this as a Queen fan.

The bass is actually audible on this remix. I compared it to the 2011 remaster. There's way more bass in this remix. I listened on a Dolby Atmos setup and on headphones (stereo version).

Great review! I ordered just the 2cd set! I been streaming the box. I have the BBC two cd set and I have the 2011 cd with the demos so I am all set. But I think the remix sounds great. If Brian and Roger are satisfied then the artist still keep there original intention

They lost me with the pitch correction. I was planning to pick up the vinyl set, but as soon as I heard that - forget it, I cancelled the pre-order. I will stick with my OG vinyl. Pitch correction is a scourge that we, collectively, need to resist with our last dying breath.

sadly all Queen remasters have pretty crushed dynamic ranges - loudness wars dominate and destroy from 1993 to 2024 and beyond....- and they pitch corrected Mercury's voice. Why not do a few spot improvements on the Mona Lisa, or Van Gogh's Sunflowers. Of just cut a few notes of Mozart's Marriage of Figaro...it will be perfect....

@@trueaudiofiles8453 2011 - digital files averaging around DR08 [LOUD ALL THE TIME EVERYWHERE] the Vinyl versions (which were just the digital files allowed to breath DR09/10 so that the needle does not jump out of the groove) - which ever way you look.....across the albums you are lookng at least 3-4 db of dynamic range loss. Ears evolutionarily like louder - but they fatigue quicker which means you listen less...and less.....and less....to those remasters.....just end up catching them streaming/radio.....
I'm not a vinyl fan - the pink noise scratch warmth/swoosh drawbacks are a dealbreaker to begin with (why some just love its 'soothing' quality)....but one thing going for it its implicit limiation coping with dynamic range crushing....think DR 09 is a low as you can get before it starts jumping right out of there....which I think is part of the vinyl revival appeal.....of course playerless buyers can use the jackets for wall art of course.

They should have brought in Steven Wilson who is really good at remixing old albums.

I couldn’t agree more. The original album as it was recorded is the completed work of art. To tamper with it now is merely destructive. It should stand as a representation of what the band was able to achieve at that time, musically and technologically.
