    A couple of things I didn’t mention in the video: Dolby Vision and what if you want more “POP” out of your HDR image?
    Firstly, Diablo IV doesn’t natively support Dolby Vision on the XBOX Series consoles or PC, so my recommendation there is to just disable this feature since it doesn’t really add to the overall image quality (can make it worse in some cases) and can lock you out of certain features on your display (such as enabling Dynamic Tone Mapping on an LG OLED).
    Secondly, if you want more HDR pop from the game, you have a couple of options on LG OLEDs. If you want to keep it on HGiG and have access to the Fine Tune Dark Areas setting in the Game Optimizer menu (make sure VRR is enabled), then you can drop the FTDA setting down to between -18 to -22 (-22 crushes near black detail a bit but it isn’t very noticeable). Keep the in game settings at default outside of adjusting the maximum white value to that if your display.
    If want an even poppier image (poppier?) then try enabling Dynamic Tone Mapping on your display and the drop the brightness of your display down to between 39 and 42 (I find 40 looks best on my display without crushing shadow detail). Again, leave the in game settings at default outside of adjusting the maximum white value to that if your display. This actually looks damn good with deep blacks and nice punchy highlights.

      I follow your display settings on my LG C1, and ohh my God !!! Looks impressive !!! I hate DTM but I don't have a choice. Black are decent now and colors are saturated. Nice job my man !!! Hope Blizzard will fix HDR 🤔🤔

    For LG C9/CX OLED i highly recommend trying tonemapping On and then depending on how deep black image you prefer go to Picture Options and set Black Level either to Auto for more brightness or Low for hella deep black image. HGIG does nothing, literally since game is not using System calibration it just runs TV HDR on top of it’s SDR game content.

      @Biff can’t say specifically for this game but I use my oled TV for I think over two years now for gaming and RUclips and when I checked recently there was no burn-in at all. You should be fine my friend. If your TV is kind of new then start to worry after at least two years 😉

      @eco999 thanks for the comment. I’ll have to give this a shot. I typically dislike how DTM looks with most content, and noticed when I tried it with Diablo IV it raises the overall picture brightness of the image, but also the black floor. I typically don’t find HGiG bad in most games, even ones that don’t natively support it, but I do play a completely dark room so that may be why.

    • @eco999
      @eco999 Год назад

      @@HomeTheaterGamer I can absolutely understand that. Though, HGIG is so bland in my opinion that DTM really gives you this necessary “color pop”. To counter that raised black level as you mentioned in case of LG CX I set my Black Level to Low. Gives me back this deep oled blacks we all love, resulting in the extra rich color and wide HDR contrast. The burning red on dark black color pallet in D4 look fantastic.
      This is all subjective. You can tune HGIG fine as suggested but it will always look more “natural” and I like my HDR to be more contrasty 🙂
      EDIT: on LG C1/2 I believe the Black Level equivalent is called “Limited”.

      @eco999 are you playing on PS5 and forcing it to output full range RGB? I only ask because I’m on the Series X which doesn’t let you do that with HDR (it’s always on limited range regardless of the system setting), so the black level setting in my C1 doesn’t work. I did drop brightness down to 40 with DTM on and that worked great. I couldn’t get the FTDA setting low enough to get the same effect. I think I may actually prefer it for this game, but only time will tell haha.

    • @eco999
      @eco999 Год назад +1

      @@HomeTheaterGamer Yup, I’m on PS5. My HDR is set to Always On. VRR, ALLM, RGB Range, DeepColor Output are all set to Automatic. Might be the difference between TV models though. LG CX while having Freesync premium does not have FTDA.
      Edit: I use default HDR Game Mode which has brightness set to 50, contrast and oled light to 100. The only thing I changed was Color Temperature - Warm2.

    During the Open Beta, there was an issue where black levels in the game appeared to be "lifted" above the dark values that HDR displays (OLEDs in particular) are capable of. Our team concluded this was due to a log() function meant to help with sample distribution in our color lookup tables. The log() function does a great job for distributing the samples well across the whole color cube, but math buffs out there will note that it can never reach 0 because 20 is still 1 and even 2-10 is still 0.000976. In fact, 0.000976 is significant because it was the minimum color value that the game was able to put into the framebuffer due to the bug. Thanks to the extra image processing that display manufacturers put into their SDR TVs, those displays will show something close to black when they get these values. However, on an HDR TV, these values are interpreted more literally. That value, 0.000976, translates to about 0.07 nits of brightness on the display, which is well above the near-zero nit minimum of an OLED, and would be seen as an unusual brightening of all things dark in the game. We were happy to have fixed this issue in time for Server Slam.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Год назад +3

      Unfortunately, I think something happened between the server slam and the official launch, because the issue isn't resolved and the black levels are still raised in HDR on both my LG C1 OLED and Hisense U7H LED display using an XBOX Series X. If you swap between SDR and HDR, the overall brightness is severely elevated in HDR and there's no adjustments to the-in game HDR settings that will fix this. You need to resort to other measures outside of the game to fix the HDR image, which means that something is wrong with the HDR in Diablo IV.

    Best solution I've found looking around and tested on my C9 was to set Fine Tune Dark Areas all the way down to -25 but I don't really like messing with my TV and taking such drastic measures, so...
    So any updates from Blizzard on this?

      I don't have any issues on PC. But it sounds like your audio processing is the issue. So go into sound settings do this:
      - in Sound Output Device: switch from Default to one of the devices listed in the drop box. If that doesn't work. Try the next in the drop down box.
      - in Speaker Setup: make sure you have the right speaker setup. In the drop down box, go from Default to Stereo or 5.1 (or whatever your speaker setup is).
      - Lastly scroll ALL the way down to the bottom and ENABLE/ON the Player Audio on Error.
      The last resort is Spatial Sound. It is in Windows. Not in the game. Ho to:
      *Control Panel>Hardware & Sound>Sound*
      Select your output device with a checkmark on it.
      Then select *PROPERTIES*
      Then go to *SPATIAL SOUND* tab.
      Select *ON or OFF*
      I have mine set to *OFF*
      I hope this helps you. 👍

    On PC, Dolby Atmos is not an option in the Diablo 4 Speaker Setup. I've got the paid Atmos app running in background as well. However Pro Logic is an option... is that what I'm needing, or should I have it just set for default?
    Why does this stuff have to be so confusing... wish there was a way in games to test to make sure it's actually working than just playing.

    • @HomeTheaterGamer
      @HomeTheaterGamer  Год назад

      Default would be the correct choice for audio output in-game as long as your output in Windows 10 or 11 says Dolby Atmos (I don’t have Windows 11 though, so I’m not familiar with that).
      And yeah, it seems every game is different these days and some settings are incredibly vague in their description. We just really need all games to adhere to the standard for HDR and audio.

      This right here. What is the point of their Tempest audio tech if you can only enjoy it through stereo speakers (TV or headset)? For anyone with an Atmos setup this is just wasted potential. Hope they bite the bullet and pay for a licence to envelope Tempest on an Atmos or DTS:X or Auro3D or Sony's own 360 Audio wathever codec for users with home theaters to actually take advantage of it or find a way to actually send the additional .2/.4/.6 signal through multidimensional PCM, additional to whatever linear surround you can currently select.

      @@jasonpickens9839no, tempest audio is supported using the Dolby almost codec. Dolby atmos is poorly implemented in most games. The only game so far that uses it natively is The Callisto Protocol
      Everything else I’ve tried has had sub bass and vocal issues because they’re using the tempest codec that is made for headphones. It sounds like shit. Unless the game natively supports atmos you’re better off using DDSUR or DTS Neural X

    I have s95b & I have an old plasma my friend plays on when he comes over. The HDR on s95b Looks like trash. Extremely washed out. I am experienced with tv's and know it has nothing to do with settings. On the plasma the blacks r inky & the contrast is extremly better. On my s95b oled it looks like the entire image is over brightened by like 300%, also the whole image has like a light greenish blue cast. It's disgusting. Plasma SDR looks immensely better. Only thing my TV improves of course is highlights.. They r way brighter but when the whole image is washed out it doesn't matter.
    I've played multiple games & when HDR is working properly the s95b Destroys the image of old plasma. Diablo 4 HDR is awful.
