    In Maryland I lived in two houses on Base on Fort Meade. First was Allsworth Court and I also in the Anyways our house in Allsworth Court was 2 story house. The only down side was that we had to drive our trash to a machine and we pressed the button for the trash. I also did a slip and slide that summer in Maryland for my first summer before I started swimming at the base pool. Then I lived on a Ranch house on Craig Street from June 2010 to June 2011.

    Great information here! Thanks for posting. Try some fuzzy walk off mats for the dirty paws. Costco carries them seasonally. Also, Oxyclean works well on red dirt stains. As for the roaches, yes, Hawaii has more than enough of them! I’ve stayed in homes where they let geckoes run free and that really helps, assuming you consider geckos to be friendly, insurance-selling creatures and not icky pests.

      Yes! Geckos are welcome in our house. We have lived in Hawaii a year now and have come a long way with bugs and red dirt ☺️

    Lol the scorpion centipedes are worse but you probably have the issues with coackroaches because the house has probably been vacant for awhile befire you moved in

    When I moved to Hawaii we rented in Mililani at first. The house was mostly clean, but I saw a few roaches. I had the property manager bring in pest control. When I came back to check on the house, there were dead bugs everywhere! I actually cried for several minutes before sweeping them all up. I still don't like them, but a good roach is a dead roach, so I'm over it. You will probably forever react to the slightest movement in the corner of your eye just to be able to catch any bug, lol!

    In Colorado I lived an Apartment with my parents when i was little when I first arrived to Colorado in 1999 just before I turned 2. Then we moved into a house on East Nassau Place. It was a two story house with a basement. There I would play in my dinosaur sand box in my backyard and Play with my swing set and my dad would push me on the swing some times. I also would do Fireworks at our court with our neighbors and watch fireworks in a field somewhere every year too. I also would wear my snowsuit every Halloween and my parents would sort my Halloween candy because I could not eat gluten back then. One time on my mothers birthday one year there was tornado so close to our house in a field.

    In '79-82, geckos took care of a lot of em. Chased what was left back and forth between the joined units back then despite the concrete cinder block fireproofing between.

    Also in my house on Gemini avenue in Hawaii I would also play games on the Tag Channel on Television although this channel is not around anymore. One day in May 2009 the month before I left Hawaii I was play tag games on the tv one morning and my mother was annoyed that I did not ask her if could play games on the tag game channel because the month before that they start costing 25 cents to play a game but luckily it was free in the month of May in 2009.

    I lived in Two houses on Hickam. One was Earhart which was ranch house. This house I could walk to and from my school because it was so close to my school and I also my own private alley way to a swing and I was the only kid to use this swing at the time most of the time. The only downside was that my parents had to deal with cockroaches in the house just like you are dealing with in your house right now I can imagine.
    Then I moved in Gemini Avenue which a two story house in July 2006 which where I would ride my bike on the court with other kids on that street who became my friends later. We also would have potlucks on our court for Thanksgiving and Christmas and we would have inflatable water slides and I also went to Josh and Remmy house for a Valentines day party in February 2009 with the other kids while my mom celebrated at our house with the other adults.

    Are you still living here? Re enlisting very soon for hawaii. According to your description, this is available for married e4? This is way beyond what i was expecting

    • @theWiggyFamily
      @theWiggyFamily  2 месяца назад

      Yes it is! It’s easier to get it if you have kids. Homes here go by what’s available and family size more than rank. Sometimes a married e4 or e5 with no kids will get a two bedroom apartment. Our neighbors are e4 with no kids, same layout as ours. Officers are also in the same neighborhood.

  • @HerbanMagi
    @HerbanMagi 4 месяца назад

    I’m moving there in October, I’m a E4(P) my spouse me and an adult dependent… would you recommend staying on post?

    • @theWiggyFamily
      @theWiggyFamily  4 месяца назад +2

      There are pros and cons to both. If you don’t have dogs or kids living off post might be exciting. You get to really experience Hawaii culture. Just be ready that utilities are very expensive when living off post. Electricity bills average $400-600 a month here.
      Just know that it will be difficult finding a place as large as what you can get on base. Back yards and garages are not common at our BAH level off base. But they are on base. Many families chose to live on base just for these reasons.
      Housing on base is not divided so much by rank. More family size and what’s available.

    People always think roaches are in homes because they are dirty but nope it's just a home for them to live in that's not outside. We have only seen a few our house after 2 years at Bragg but my friend has the same house but older than mine and she had an infestation. They were coming in from a hole behind her stove. These houses still look pretty big for being a 3 bedroom. We had orders to HI a few years ago now it's on our list again. Did you put your tv in the front room area and table in the back?

    • @theWiggyFamily
      @theWiggyFamily  Год назад

      Most people set up their houses that way. We ended up doing the opposite. Tv in the room closest to the kitchen and dining table in the front room.

    • @theWiggyFamily
      @theWiggyFamily  9 месяцев назад

      I think so! You can find a decent place off base if you have no kids, and no dogs. But forget the garage or backyard. Power bills alone may overwhelm you. Many people who like AC will pay over $800 a month on electricity alone. And even if you don't use AC you will still have a $400 power bill. Just ask any of the military wives' forums on Facebook.

    Might be a silly question but with the central air, does the upstairs stay as cool as the downstairs? Our last house was hot upstairs even with central air and the downstairs was cold.

    • @theWiggyFamily
      @theWiggyFamily  Год назад +1

      Personally, I'm an open-window person. The nights cool off into the sixties and I love the fresh air.
      But I reached out to one of my friends who likes to keep it nice and cool in the house for the babies and this is what she said:
      “The upstairs stays a little bit warmer. We turn our ceiling fans on high. But as long as you keep the window blinds closed, it usually maintains the temperature in the middle of the summer gets pretty hot. It’s usually anywhere from 2 to 5° higher I would say.”

    • @theWiggyFamily
      @theWiggyFamily  2 года назад +1

      Aloha! We live in the Santa Fe/Kaena Community. If you are arriving in December you probably will not have a long wait for housing. But housing varies for many reasons. The best way to find out would be to contact Island Palm. They are the 3rd party that operates housing here. Families can get into housing in as little as 2 weeks and as long as 3 months. The longer wait would be in the summer.
