BASIC STEPS FOR CASINO pt 1 // "Cuban Salsa"

- This is the lead's and follow's footwork for some of the most important steps in Cuban casino. They dance within each of the positions (basic steps) and also move the follow through each of the positions. Before learning turns, it's important to understand these positions and steps.
All steps are shown atiempo (dancing on 1, 2, 3... 5, 6, 7)
Follow's first step (1) is with the right foot
Lead's first step (1) is with the left foot.
All steps alternate from there.
In the video we cover:
• basic step with follow in front of lead in closed position aka "paso de son"
• taking the follow to the lead's right from closed aka "entrada"
• basic step with follow on the lead's right aka "paseala" "dentro y fuera," "abajo"
• bringing the follow from the lead's right, to in front, then to the left aka "dile que no"
• basic step with follow on lead's left aka "guapea"

I'm not sure which of your videos I saw you use an app called salsa rhythm but I just bought it and i love the ability to add and remove instruments as well as adjust bpm! Very helpful!

The lead's footwork for the "Entrada" looks like a variation on step 4 from you 5 basic steps video. Here the lead steps forward, rocks back and then crosses forward... rather than step back, cross forward, step out. OR... a basic with a front cross on 3 and 7.

Can you break down the double spin, back to back and then coming back to basic on the beat...that one always throws me off.
Couples basic with follow on the right looks like a Cumbia step ie back step on 1 & 5 with cross on 2 and 6.. is this correct ?

The way this is taught, it's VERY hard to follow. I took the class and did fine, but I cannot follow this video. The way the instructor calls the steps is not helpful. It would be better to count than use other words because it throws the timing off. Also, the camera keeps moving, super disorienting.
Yeah f**k that guy! Dancing is about numbers.
