Hey Gary, thank you for watching and commenting... Yes it was amazing to be out again after so long missing it... Yes I had to show the NU25 here too as I love mine too... This is what you need though for its raw power.... Best wishes Tom
Great job on the review! I hate all the reviews that go into things like the packaging ar other nonsense. Straight to the meat of what we want to hear. Keep it up. It would be nice to have a follow up after you have used it a few times in different situations.
Hey Robert thank you for the feedback.. Yes I think the actual testing is way more important than unboxing etc... I will definitely consider a long term review maybe incorporated with another review of something else... Best wishes Tom
I got it as soon it came out too! Used it Sweden and Norway expedition and it saved our behinds :) Found it hard to distinguish between turbo and high(er) - sometimes hard to get into turbo.
Hi Rob, really great to hear from you and I know you are seriously dialled in with your kit so awesome that you have this headlamp from Nitecore.. Yes the 2000 boost is only 700 lumen more than the 1300 so thats why you may not notice a massive difference.. I found you have to double press really quickly or close together to activate the turbo..The light needs to be at a good battery level too.. I really fancy that extension pack so I can really dump out the light.... I hope you are doing well and best wishes Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100you’re right indeed, you need to press really fast then it works better. As for the extension pack thing - I got that one too :) works great, used the cold weather battery from my other Nitecore. Now they’ve come out with a lightweight carbon extension battery - I think you’d like that one too. Great review buddy! I need to get back on the production horse 😅
Hi Tom, just wanted to say I really enjoy your reviews tho I normally watch the tent videos! On headlamps, it's always good to use them on a red setting unless you're in an emergency situation (e.g benighted) and need the white light for navigation/map reading. Bright white lights are extremely damaging to any nocturnal wildlife (bats, moths, foxes, owls to name a few) as well as our own night vision! There's increasing awareness of light pollution and all the problems it causes and tho headlamps are admittedly probably quite low on the list, it's good to minimise damage, especially in remote areas. Anyway, keep releasing the great content and thanks for reading.
Hey I never thought of the light pollution thing so thank you for sharing. This light can have insane run times on the lower settings so that could be the way to go for me. best wishes Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100 nice one man! Yeah, it's a weird one because of all the forms of pollution it's the easiest to solve but a lot of people aren't aware of it. Cheers 👍
Hi Tom, I have used the ThruNite TH20 for over 6 years now and the killer feature for me, that I don't think I could do without, is the firefly 0.3 lumen mode. Reading a book, cozy in my sleeping bag, without searing my eyeballs has become an absolute must for me. I just bring an extra rechargeable battery on longer trips and I could always buy some AAs at a pinch, although I've never had to.
Hey that you for sharing your experience with the Thrunite TH20.. Just had a look and it looks good value and very we'll made... Its always good for me to consider other options... Best wishes and thank you once again for your input.... Tom
Nice review Tom, cheers for putting it together. On the run times, obviously need to factor in the step downs i.e. turbo will only last around 30 seconds, and high will step down after 5 mins or so. HC65's run time within the stepping range is similar to others. But in general, its run time far surpasses the competition especially at 400 lumens. It looks like a brilliant head torch I think I might pick one up.
Hi Ryan, thank you for the comment and sharing your thoughts. Sorry for the time taken to reply but I had hoped to test the step down before I got back to you. I also contacted Nitecore regarding some figures etc but they said they were not available. I will do some tests myself when I get a moment and give you another reply.. I did notice some step down but it was easily boosted pagan and the battery is very strong to cope with this. I tested a Fenix light recently and it had a big step down and you can see a graph of this on their website.. Il will be in touch again with further thoughts.. Tom
@@TOMHEANEY100appreciate your posts I between the HC65 UHE and the Fenix HM75R Superraptor 3 and was wondering if you ever came around to comparing those load down values and if you see the UHE as the ultimate all around workhorse headlamp.
I have the HC68 which is a fantastic headlamp. It doesn’t quite match the runtime, I’m not sure about the weight but it’s not something that has ever bothered me. The continuous adjustment between wide and throw was the great feature that sold it to me. But I just got the HC65 UHE for my GF. I like that it can be powered by a powerbank while in use and that the light is easily detachable so it can be used stand alone… both features that make me think I might get one for myself too :)
Hey thank you for watching and taking the time to send me a comment... The HC68 is a great looking light and is a little lighter than the HC65 UHE here.. yeah the use when connected to an external power supply is awesome as I really fancy the extension pack which can also be used as a power bank. I love the 4000 mhm battery which is cutting edge power for the 18650 class... A new carbon battery is in the making too and this can make the light very future proof as battery technology gets better. It's a beast of a light and I honestly love it and great value... best wishes Tom and sure let me know if you get one....
Hi Tom. thanks for your reply! Yes I have bought one already. It should be here soon but as it’s part of a trekking kit birthday present for my partner I won’t know how it is until her birthday in a few weeks. I didn’t know about the battery extension pack and that looks really useful too. It may be easier than the power bank feature. I need high output for quite long periods as during amphibians migration season I’m out 4 to 5 hours every evening to save them from maniacal drivers. The HC68 is actually perfect for this use with the continuous and merging settings of flood and throw… the only downside is that I need two fully charged batteries every evening and even that isn’t always enough. Luckily I have one or two other handheld lights (Wuben X1 Falcon and Fenix LR35R) but the headlamp is so much more convenient. Anyway, once the HC65 UHE is tested I may well get another for myself 😊
I just ordered one the other day. I was also going to order that Nitecore Carbon Battery 6K (6000mAh) powerbank you can hook up to it(not the one you showed but an actual powerbank), but personally I don't think I'll ever use it for that long so there was no point really. Way better to just order a 2nd battery and a charger so you can quickly just throw in a newly charged battery if in need. I already got a handholdable torch with 18650 batteries, so why not just get a standalone charger that can do more types as well. The headlamp itself seemed to be the best bang for buck I found, and the only real thing I'd like in a future iteration would be a 3000Kelvin option for at least 100 and 400 lumen.
Hi thank you for the comment and sharing your thoughts and experience... Yes a few options here.. I like the versatility of the small power bank battery but a simple spare battery is a good option too.. This is a great headlamp... Best wishes Tom
Hi I night fish off the English coastline and I have just been given a APLOS H330 headlight to replace what I had for a long time a BORUIT HP 360, Two brilliant headlights for the size and cost compared to the price of NITECORE headlights, See if those people will supply you with some of their headlights to test and do a comparison video starting with the cost and general run time as all those type headlights all use the 18650 batteries
the hitecore hu2000 may give this headlight a run for its money though it does use an external battery bank that fits in your pocket so not sure what youd count as weight , the lamp itself is listed at 114grams with a 2000 lumen output for 9 hours ....the battery bank is another 150grams : 10,000mAh but can charge phones and tablets so
I think the Wurkkos HD50 is a better headlamp for my set of requirements at least. I often have to work in, and photograph accident scenes at night prior to recovery of the stricken vehicles. I do this year round in all weathers, everywhere from 4 lane Motorways, to single track country lanes/tracks. As well as use for normal night time operation, means that in a 12 hour shift. It can spend 6 hours on my head. plugged in charging for the rest of the time. For me, output, solidity, comfort and the ability to withstand constant plugging and unplugging are my big points. The HD50 has 3 emitters, runs on a 21700 battery. 4000 Lumen output, and it's about 40 quid cheaper. Would hate to blow 90 quid on a lamp to find it inferior to what I already have. (Would like to try the Armytek Wizard C2 Pro max though...🙂)
