Wielding both light and shadow the priest has been a class at the core of both raiding and pvp since WoW was a thing. In Cataclysm the priest is set to receive a number of changes to update their playstyle.
From Discipline having more to do than mashing their Power word: shield key, to shadow being more competitive overall.

I remember being shadow for some of H ds prog and my god it absolutely cranked, with a super satisfying burst window rotation
The 4 piece tier 13 bonus for shadow is actually extremely powerful for burst as you can send shadow fiend out and change your rotation to mind spike x 3 followed by an instant Mind Blast all of which have 3 orbs. The best way to utilize this is hit the haste soft cap and then reforge for mastery, it makes shadow an incredible burst damage class and once shadow fiend is down you still have great sustain
You could save with leap of faith….or you can troll with it
Even if people are about to die, they still get upset that you fixed their bad positioning to save them.
Personally my favorite or most common use of it was gripping that one melee who consistently stands in front of the boss.

@WillEmmo 2 things I'd change with this video:
1. You need to tease the toilet bowl priest shoulders from t11.
2. The toilet bowl priest helmet! Personally, I love the helmets like this because I basically don't have to hide helmet bow to see my characters face.
3. You forgot to mention the trolling possibilities that are added with a leap of faith (live grip), saving people or gripping them to their demise for maximum trolling potential!

I'm very much excited for Disc Priest in Cata, it's got such a fun toolkit. When I got access to the Cata Beta the first thing I did was make a gnome priest, and of all the alts I made to try out new stuff in the beta I leveled that gnome priest the highest. I can say this much- Disc Priest is probably the best healing spec to level as in the game. Atonement finally, FINALLY, makes spamming Smite while questing not just viable, but the optimal strategy. You no longer need to just swing your wand until your arm falls off, you can actually DO DAMAGE. And that damage heals you too. It's a defining feature of the Discipline spec, but Atonement ALSO is the greatest healing talent for leveling out of all the healer specs. Leveling as a healer post vanilla is like leveling as a solo warrior during vanilla. You struggle to get one kill, and if you're outnumbered you might as well just AFK and the same outcome would occur. Leveling as Resto Druid and ESPECIALLY Holy Paladin is just agony.
I doubt anyone else actually cares about this, and this doesn't exactly apply to me anymore due to having played long enough to be able to put some gear/heirlooms on an alt and level as whatever, but as someone who struggled uphill leveling as a healer priest the first time around, Atonement is (fittingly) a godsend.
I remember Hydra wasnt rly happy with disc in Cata, he was forced to play shadow to get his usual r1
Weird. It was faster for me to level as disc in wrath. I did it 3 times actually. And not dungeon spamming either lol
If the balance of classes is around 4.3, Holy priest will be nuts.
The spec only got buffs over buffs through all the expansion.
- Chakras at launch only had a 30s duration then they changed it to 1min and by 4.3 chakra stances were infinite so you always got the effect and spell through all the fight.
- Sanctuary got hiper buffs during patches.
- 4.3 is where holy got the new talent "Heavenly Voices" and destroyed hps meters, increased the healing of Divine Hymn for 100%.. yes.. 100% and reduced the cd to a 3min cooldown so you could literally top your raid TWICE in a fight.
I'm totally playing holy in cataclysm classic if we get 4.3 version at launch
Also hpriest since wotlk has never been a tank healer... People that do not play holy priest should stop saying that

absolutely, but mana is a huge issue for Rshamans and Hpriests. Feels good in 25man raiding. enjoy healing
It’s been a a while since OG Cata, the last patch I played and I played priest and Druid (healing obviously) and I can’t remember which one I liked, I reckon both 🤷♂️

Heroic spine of deathwing holy was extremely op. Make sure you were in single target Chakra state to get rid of the debuff easily and efficiently and in the aoe healing state for stacking for rolls and dpsing the plates. Holy was also really good on Heroic Hagara for the stack ING the middle and just heal through mechanic
Should I play fire mage shadow priest or hunter in cata but I do have hierloom gear for casters if that makes a difference

I remember playing Disziplin priest in cata and actually most people at least back when I played there, thought that holy was the better (but more gear requiring) spec especially because it could both heal groups and single targets very effectively. Disziplin was definitly better for tank healing but that wasnt always too needed.

I'm a priest main in wrath and extremely excited to continue with it in cata. I just wish I could triple spec because holy is a bit of fun to mess around with but will still mainly be shadow/disc. I wish they could add more potential for holy through the gear sets because it feels like they got slept on
Maybe the players I played with weren’t that great, but I remember cranking during Firelands compared to everyone else, apart from the hunter in our group who was my main competitor.
The arcane mage, boomkin, and rogue in that group generally didn’t keep up, although I think the rogue was combat and not subtlety.

You mentioned that Vampiric Embrace in Cata has a quirk of older WoW abilities, that it only benefits the party that the Priest is in. Prayer of Healing works the same way, but with the party of the target. I felt like a moron back in Cata after raiding months without knowing it, but it's so non-intuitive.
yeah, reading what your spell does, so non-intuitive...
Unless they do rebalancing, t11 bosses don't nuke your raid constantly, they do 1 big hit and then you have time to heal up, so absorbs aren't necessary, especially with how you'd have to burn mana aegising people before the ability hits. and any boss that DOES do constant large raid damage (magmaw, chogall, nelth phase 2 etc) a boosted Hymn from holy would be more useful especially since those fights you aren't stacked for when the constant damage is happening. id maybe expect priest players to dual spec swap between the 2 depending on fights, cuz they both are better than eachother depending on the fight.
also some corrections on the talents and glyphs, Holy doesn't run Veiled Shadows since 1min off shadowfiend doesn't do anything, and fiend with hymn of hope is enough to recharge you. You take the Darkness talent for more haste, helps with reaching the Lightwell haste cap, and you also don't take Rapid Renewal since Renew isn't worth casting unless its 10m and its a non-raid heal portion of the encounter, such as Chimareon when he's not fueding. If its 25m, you can take the 3 Darkness points and do Evangelism/Archangel and throw some holy fire/smites at the boss, and then pop the healing steroid for when raid damage happens. VERY juicy lining that up with Hymn. you can run that in 10m too but 25m is safer since more healers to cover you while you're DPSing but it depends on your healer team I suppose.
Also you take glyph of lightwell, not GS. 30 seconds off GS is worthless, Lightwell (if people click on it) does incredible healing. If you reach the first haste breakpoint for it, it ticks 4 times, meaning like a 6k heal 4 times so 24k, x15 uses is 360k total healing, which isn't including potential crits, and that's rivaling the healing of a raid CD, just spread out instead of all at once.
Good luck getting anyone to click the lightwell though.

Mind spike will become your main burst spell with 4/5 T13. Summon shadow fiend and spam mind spike (mind blast when off cooldown) while it active, when it's over you switch back to normal playstile
That was (and will be again) the best version of shadow priest across the whole game. A true and honest Shadow burst phase was soooo fun.
@WillE my first time playing wow was in 2019 classic and after watching your priest video back then saying you could say 100% Priest was worth playing and I haven't stopped since. I've alted a bunch of dps and tanks but nothing feels as perfect to me as priest. Can't wait to push Disc priest in every avenue of the game, thank you for the push to main this class back in the summer of 2019.

How important is replenishment for healers in cata? Can you get away without it in 10m?

I always found Holy to be quite strong. The few priests I knew and myself couldn't heal dungeons as disc at the start. But I always found myself at either 1st or 2nd on the meters in the 25mans in Dragonsoul. But then again i wasn't in any high tier raiding. I just feel like Holy is a really strong raid healer. considering their mastery and a glyph for prayer of healing. They are amazing when there is a lot of consistent raid damage happening.
Flash heal is great in pvp, the amount of times i have saved someone at the last moment makes my day.
Priest Heal is so incredible good to play on Cataclysm. It's not no brain like previous expansion, but not fireworks style like retail.
For me Priest Heal on Cataclysm and maybe MoP are the best.
Dunno about "classic cata" but I totally destroyed firelands dps and healing as disco back when it was out!

Whats the best race now for pve shadow for alli and horde?
Likely Troll/Goblin for Horde. Alliance was never as clear cut in terms of 'best' choice since all the racial bonuses were more utility based with only a handful of minor DPS buffs. Troll's berserking and Goblin's natural haste buff are just strong all the time.
My brain melted a little on the tier sets section.
1st tier set, shadow, Willie says: "Increases damage of Shadowy Apparitions by 10%", Game footage shows "30%"
2nd Tier set, shadow, Willie says: "Your Mind Blast does 25% more damage", Game footage shows "15%"
2nd Tier set, healing, Willie says: "5% proc chance with no internal cooldown", "WoWhead footage shows "45s cooldown"
3rd Tier set Willie almost gets it, but forgot a word and instead said, "a 10% chance to absorb 100 more damage" which would be wildly underwhelming.
Holys big weakness is that it is all in on raw power. It is throughput focused with no good unique utility.
Guardian Spirit is not something jou want to rely on. It boosts throughput until the target takes a hit that bfings them so low they should have died. At this point, when you need that throughput boost the most, it ends. Assuming its death prevention worked at all or no follow up or DoT finished them off before you could react.
Its focus on raw power makes it a great healer slot filler once you got the utility jou want/need but it means they are not a first (or second) pick. This hurts extra for 10 man but is not a some unsurmountable downside. Just don't expect any spec specific group listings, closest to that will be Tol Barad Priest (either spec) for class+role runs with generic healer slots still being plentiful for others
Lol holy priest in cataclysm classic will be 4.3 version of it, after all the buffs the spec got in all patches.
In 4.3 holy priest got the new talent that makes Divine hymn increase 100% the healing and reduces the cd to 3 min which was INSANE. It transformed DH into the most powerful healing cooldown in the game. You can literally top the raid in one cast and the fact that is a 3 min cooldown you can use it TWICE in a fight.
On top of that they made Chakra stances infinite so you always had the effects on you.
GS is still a situational life saver. Sometimes can be even stronger than PS, sometimes PS is just better. But a cheat death can save a wipe.
If the classes are balanced around 4.3, then hpriests are gonna be nuts

I think the problem with holy is its ‘jack of all trades master of none’ design, they dont have a clear identity as a healer, and that hurts the spec raid spot alot in my opinion, its sad cause I think the chakra mechanic is pretty fun and interactive
It's not a "jack of all trades" it has always been a raid healer... and if the version of the game is 4.3 then it'll be nuts. Holy got just buffs and buffs over the expansion.
The reworked talent in 4.3 that made divine hymn have 100% increased healing + reduce cd to a 3min cooldown was insane. You could literally top the raid TWICE in a fight, it was absurdly strong and they nerfed it to the ground in MoP
In the right hands a holy priest will do more through-put if using all cooldowns and renew/pom/CoH off cooldown. Will definitely have one in my raids
I hope my guild can convince someone to switch to Discipline. I really do. Its been so painful all of Wrath not having one.

Not that I expected blizzard to ever fix the issue for the classics, but I still want to know what the hell they were thinking wrath onwards with Disc. Being able to add an effective extra chunk of health to the raid with shields is OP on it's own, the CDs they bring in pain sup, power infusion and now barrier would also make them OP on it's own, and now they get goddamn raid healing through damage too? The last bit should have gone to Holy with the introduction of the chakra system....

i dropped DW on Heroic playing as Discipline Priest, in Ultraxion ufff godly
Holy Priest will be fantastic in 10 mans, if your primary goal is to prog 10 man content Holy Priest will be great for that. Because of it's hybrid nature you'll always be able to cover both healing styles in 10 mans whether you're playing AOE when paired with a Holy Pally or single target when playing with a Resto Druid, Shaman or Disc. You'll feel outclassed in 25 mans in 5 man healing teams from the more specialized healers but your flexibility will be sought after in 10 mans.
Shadow is just more of the same and this will continue until Legion. Shadow Priest's identity was just the same rotation with a new button that didn't cannibalize any other ability that you had before, if you liked Shadow before you'll continue to like Shadow.
Disc, a new playstyle but it's not quite the perfect hybrid you imagine when you think of Retail Disc, you're still a healer at heart, the only difference is you'll be the worst DPS and the worst healer on the meters, you'll even be eclipsed by your Bear Druid and Blood DK at times so make sure to raise your Details to show 6 or 7 spots instead of 5 if you wanna see yourself, Wrath this is not because PWS is an absolute MANA HOG until Dragon Soul. You'll still be wanted because The Boob is the best ability in Cataclysm and you might even see your Shadows dual spec to Disc for a few fights to cheese some mechanics for more Boobs.
Bring the player not the class. Holy priest is a beast in the right hands. Although Holy Paladin will be the best healer as always.
