I spoke to Descript a while back when I was testing some massive projects for documentary research purposes. They mentioned that any projects north of the 50-100gb scale would really slow down massively. Which is what I experienced. That being said, I have found it to be a godsend when doing doc and corporate work. As long as users are careful where their cache is pointing I was able to collaborate with producers and writers without much issue. Managing the cache location was an important step for my workflows.
I also discovered a few methods for syncing to multicams in Resolve, so I could prep interviews in Resolve and bounce them to Descript for writing, and bring the xml back but point to the multicams instead of the raw footage, which allowed me to edit more efficiently.
That's fascinating! I work with remote editors all around the world, so I can see where my caching location could have been causing issues.
I think it sounds like this product for someone that wants to add more visuals it isn't the best, but I could use it to do my rough cut and take out all the filler words really quickly, maybe even add in some specifically located captions, but then finish it in my FCPX for the fine tuning?
Yes, alot of people use it to do the assembly edit extra quick. That solution worked great as a solo editor for me, the day I moved to a team environment, the workflow process broke pretty quick.
It's best to test Descript with a trial to make sure it works properly :)
@@TheOrsonLord thanks! I am just starting my talking head channel so this was helpful and worth a test on a couple of shorts I am doing leading up to our first show.
Great video - been looking for something that auto-switches between active speakers (cam). Would you say that Descript handles this task better than autopod?
So autopod is an automation while descript is AI.
What this means in simple terms is that Autopod is more reliable in it’s switching if you record correctly, but won’t work if you don’t have the right setup.
while descript is slightly less accurate but is more flexible in what you need to start making it work.
I prefer auto pod for it’s reliability, I’d make it a first preference, and then descript is the second option.
ooOOOooo thats pretty cool. never heard of it but that seems like it could save alot of time for some editors
It’s a pretty interesting tool, despite it’s setbacks on more complicated projects it’s still has great time saving workflows.
Davinci is fine, even the free version is enough i guess!😅😁
but when i use adobe podcast to enhance my voiceover and send it to davinci it automatically does panning, i mean the sounds only comes on left earphones any way to resolve it??
