5:15, for the record... but, to be fair: they are messing around with live arrangements in pretty much every performance I saw since they started touring with Josh, that sure doesn't make the task of getting all songs down in just a few weeks easier. Even as a pro drummer.
I wouldn't go THAT far, even if he can hit the triples consecutively lol! But I do love Josh now. Took me a minute to make sure I wasn't disrespectful to The Hawk. XOXO

If I could get tickets I'd be front row in a heart beat. Stop complaining about what was and accept this new chapter. I for one am thrilled they're making music again. As someone who just lost 2 immediate family members a week apart it's going to take time to find their feet again. There was only one Taylor Hawkins God bless him. Hey thanks so much for sharing these, absolutely blistering gig by the look of it! I know we must all miss Taylor like crazy and must never forget him, but oh my I can just imagine him grinning down on it all with pride and love for everyone he loves so dearly, including every single fan. You have captured these songs and the atmosphere of a small club absolutely perfectly! ❤❤
I can still hear Taylor's piercing bell ride in this song even though it's not being played here 😊. They sound so tight and having lots of fun. I'm glad they are back.
It’s so strange to see this band with a different drummer 😢… miss you Taylor Hawkins RIP Mate I’m sure he’s somewhere there in spirit cheering them on. Bless these guys.
As much as I love the job Josh is doing by 'holding down' and adding his own interpretation to Taylors parts, I can't wait to see the creative genius he adds to future FF writings. And is it just me, or does he look like a (very) young Gary Busey? 🤣
Just not the same feel as Taylor... Like a good covers band where the drummer didn't learn the part annoyingly... The songs are etched into our head and need to be played as close as possible to the record...
There's no obligation for the band to play them exactly the way you remember. Live performances taking new directions with old material is extremely common, count yourself lucky you're not a Bob Dylan fan if slightly different drumming is already 'ruining' a song for you. Bob never plays a single song the same way twice.
Playing different chords would also be fine. Keeping the melodic sense of the song intact but experimenting is fine and the band's prerogative. Again, lots of musicians play differently each night, and this band had an enormous upheaval, clearly Josh playing it differently is intentional. If you want to hear the song exactly as it is on the album, just listen to the album? Otherwise, embrace change, change can be fun and cool.
You can see how little force Josh can use and still sound loud, compare it with drummers like Grohl and Goldsmith who basically massacre their kits lol. I love such style, but it tends to make your drumming career shorter since arm and shoulder problems almost always ensue. Josh has formal drumming training, I can tell it.
Josh is great, but it's strange to see someone whose playing style differs so wildly from everyone who ever drummed for the FF before. I admit I had some faint hope of Goldsmith returning, but I think I'll get used to Josh, he's probably the most technically proficient drummer who ever played for the band anyways.
I am a drummer and Josh is obviously far superior to Taylor but the songs don't have the same feel anymore... The fills are crazy but for me don't fit... Just sounds wrong like a covers band where the drummer didn't learn the part....
@@sf5912 I miss those old gigantic kits that Grohl and Goldsmith used to use, that fierce style and the relatively simple drum parts tbh. But like I said, we'll probably get used to it. We also have to take into consideration that everyone in the band is older now, playing like Grohl and Goldsmith used to is very heavy on the arms and shoulders.
I think it would be harder to have a Taylor clone back there - in look or style - at least on this tour. I was rooting for Rufus and can understand why neither party was ready for that.
I agree totally over playing. It's a mess on the drums. No feel, too many notes, trying to make it complicated with the fills! Like watching a very talented 15 year old destroy the song... Also he really doesn't need to throw his arms around like a madman so much...
Josh Freese is one of the best drummers of his generation, and if anything overqualified for the job. Don't confuse 'not playing it exactly like you remember from previous versions' with 'not consistent or solid drumming'. If you don't like it, that's fine, but if you know anything about drums you'd know he's an absolute master and a consummate professional.
