Neil Peart is dead. Nobody can touch him on a technical level. You’d have to look to the jazz genre to find drummers who can match Josh on a technical level. In terms of musicianship, none of the other Foos come remotely close to sniffing Josh. Dave is a subpar guitar player, Taylor was a soulful, but fairly mediocre drummer (Dave is better), Pat Smear isn’t a great guitarist by any means. Back when Rush was around, that was probably the tip top of musicianship in rock music. Everyone in the band was world class at their instrument(s). Also a guy like Frank Zappa. Or a band like Dream Theater, all of them are fantastic musicians (I’d argue they were better than Rush musically everywhere except the drums, Peart is the master of rock n roll drums)
It’s so good to see my Foos rocking like hell again. It makes me happy to see everyone accepts Josh sincerely, such a joy. I love Taylor and Foo Fighters beyond words!

Plus this is the biggest crowd you are ever likely to see in an environment that doesn't feel like a corporate indoor arena where you are told off for doing anything. I went to Leeds Festival in 2007 and was looking forward to finally seeing Jimmy Chamberlin drum with Smashing Pumpkins live. Nine Inch Nails were on before and Josh Freese blew me away. This was post A Perfect Circle. He's always been good and it was obvious who was going to come in to fill Taylor's shoes. Josh can adapt and be whatever anyone needs him to be. He's an amazing diverse drummer. His work in the debut A Perfect Circle album is staggering, considering he's also in The Vandals.

In every band Josh played put his heart and soul on drums. He is THE professional modern drummer. He can fit and adapt and learn songs but he remains always Josh with his lively style. Foo cannot choose better.

A different drummer can completely change the sound of a band. Josh's punk background definitely brings a different energy, keeping the baisc structures of what Taylor played without just copying him. Josh has been a favorite drummer of mine for forever.

I watched this video in june of last year and fell in love with Fontaines DC. They were my top spotify artist by a large margin and they are the reason I recently started taking drum lessons. Theyre so frickin good and I thank you profusely for introducing me to them. Best music recommendation ive gotten in years

I feel they are still grieving but its the curve back up being able to enjoy life more as time goes by which is letting them get there mojo back, back to touring most of the year, up to speed with new drummer. It never goes away but the pain does reduce with time when lost someone. I lost my dad in 2016, i remember picking up his ashes and times like these come on planet rock, and i had to pull the van over to cry. But now years later i can hear that song and think happy memories. (Although black stone cherry, things my father said can still bring a tear to my eye).
There was this melancholic vibe of them still grieving when they played at Rock am Ring, too. But at the same time they seemed as genuinely happy to play as usually only those gigs are for which being invited to the festival is a big thing. If you want to imagine it, add the fact that they played in the night.
i’m just glad that the Foos still wanna play music. they’re already in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and could’ve just retired but we’re all glad they didn’t

Last weekend (June 24th) our tributeband to the Foos played The Pretender as the opening of our set... It's always such a joy to see and feel the energy of the audience!! We had a somewhat smaller crowd though - still, not bad with about 1500 in attendance 😎🤘🙏
We all knew the Churnups would be the Foo Fighters. We had read the online rumours, seen that Dave Grohl was there but the moment the logo melted from saying The Churnups into the FF logo was amazing. I missed seeing them headline as I didn't get tickets in 2017 and they had to cancel 2016. So glad I was there for this.
I still remembered how Taylor sang the high tone chorus part in this song. He always nailed it. Rest in power, Taylor.
