I've never seen tesla driving in the extreme weather before, really appreciate your video!

Just what I was looking for: your video, showing FSD 12 in snow, in Canada, dispelled a lot of concerns for me. Thanks for doing that!!

Finally a case scenario where V12 is pushed to limits. Great training data. Can you report for erroneous behavior?

Every intervention is automatically reported and it prompts you to record an audio description of the cause right afterward.

It's getting better, because it is learning in near real-time from your Takeovers.

Excellente video.

Nice video thanks for sharing it.
Did it run a stop at 8:21 ?

      Yeah, good eye.
That stop sign has LED lights and a solar panel but it failed to even catch my eye.

The training in winter will be different for rwd and AWD variants

I think snow and winter will be the real test for FSD, if it can handle harsh winter roads in the mountains and Countryside than it will be ready for the rest of the world :D

Not how that works at all but snow is definitely a challenge to be overcome ;p

FSD doesn't seem to recognize stop signs when they are completely covered in wind blown wet snow. It perhaps should recognize the shape of the sign even if the red color and words are covered.

Nice Catch! What's worse is that stop sign has an array of flashing red LEDs on the perimeter with a solar panel. I'm not sure if the battery was dead or the snow was thick enough to drown out the lights.
Hopefully it'll get good enough at detecting the shape like you say, it's interesting that it ignored the navigation data showing it really is using vision primarily.

FSD will learn whatever it is fed. I'd guess there aren't yet a lot of clips in training of full-white stop signs.

6:30: The biggest difference would be Tesla's far superior traction control software, I would bet.
10:30: I can't say if they changed the highway version other people are getting but I can tell you it's definitely not the full v12 version I've got on my highway, which has always used the latest version of FSD Beta, even when no one else was able to use Beta on the highway, and now it's using v12, including the Auto-Speed, and... it's a mess ;p It weaves back and forth in the lane and drifts out of the lane on curves, even onto the rumble strip sometimes. It doesn't maintain speed, even when I put it on set limit. It refuses to pass people frequently. It's SUPER different, and sketch AF ;p
25:00 While I'm also optimistic, it's definitely got way more than minor problems to solve. It still tries to crash directly into other cars sometimes, which is as major as it gets. It still can't handle the small roundabouts here AT ALL (like just goes straight over them). It's still running into a lot of curbs. It still completely fails with blocked roads. Still can't handle lots of obstacles, including potholes and snowbanks. Still can't reverse. I could go on but the point is made. It's not just refinement from here, we're still missing entire features and still have major problems that have seen no progress in years. There's still a long way to go. Hopefully E2E architecture will progress on them quickly.

RWD not in our winters, got it.

hehe, for FSD I agree. It's being a little princess and slightly better speed control + confidence to continue with wheel spin should be one of the easier problems to solve.
For driving, I can have a long debate. I have very little joy driving a dual-motor Tesla. The dynamics of front/rear torque split are unnatural and hard to predict, you really feel the extra weight in the front while turning, feels more like a video game, and the dual motor has lost its Soul IMO.
This is the best RWD winter car, I'll put it that way.

I have a 2019 SR+ and I'm west of Montreal. Been winter driving it for five years now.
It's the best two wheel drive winter car I've ever driven. I had FWD's before. As Mat said, the weight is really well balanced so the rear wheels get really good traction.
He didn't mention if he turned on "Slip Start" it's a pain because you have to turn it on for every drive, but I wonder if that would have calmed FSD down if that setting had been on.
You should not think what you see in any FSD video is "how it is"... Every couple of months, it gets better. FSD12 is in a different league than FSD11 ... unbelievably better. There was a long lull while they were getting the kinks out of v12, but expect lots of updates now that we are on v12.
I think the cut-outs from starting in snow we saw are going to feed back into Tesla, and by next winter, that problem will be gone.
That said, yeah... AWD is better RWD in the snow.

@@MatGagnon Wish they'd let up on the immediate forced takeover. They need to let it try to recover if they want it to learn; that's what Beta is for. Same with them speed-limiting it in the rain; drives me nuts. It's never had any trouble in the rain, yet they won't let me engage it. Super counterproductive. And super annoying because I live in Washington! 😵
