direction and casting was great in this video - it so breathed that weird bedroom world the song infers into the bigger visual space. just a person living their life, ordinary things, catching what gleams, doing what you can with it. really projected it into the larger cinematic life that everyone conjures in their head, in their own room at night. i super dig it.
This is one of my 11 favorite songs on Godmuffin (actually of my favorite 3, but it is such a great record). Every song on this album is exactly what my ears and heart need. I didn't just hear it for the first time or anything by the way, it's pretty much on repeat around here...just had to comment. Such a great song. The transformative nature of real, legitimate music. Thank you Mike!
This song lived with me for a solid month. I woke up in the middle of the night with it, I'd hum it absentmindedly throughout the day. The melody meandered through my December days , the lyrics ethereally floating along and now this masterful creation has lovingly lodged itself permanently in my ordinary girl hippocampus where it shall quietly resonate forever. 🖤
oh I love that! thanks for sharing. it bothered me too... that's why I had to finish it. good catchy songs are like that. my responsibility as the writer of songs like this (songs that come to me in a flash of inspiration but take time to finsish) is not to break the song
There is not a lot of high spots in 2020 so thanks for ending the year with a new album to look forward to. So happy for you and that you are doing so much original music my friend!
Beautiful, Mike. Sunshine melancholy at it's finest. And did she break her heart, just to see what she's made of, and what she's afraid of? (I think she did.)
Sunshine Melancholy is such a cool description. did you coin that? where were you when we were writing the press release for the Candy Butchers back in the 90s!!!
@@mikeviola I was busy pretending I was going to finish college, trying to ratify Brian Wilson as a write-in candidate for President, you know, the usual. I'm pretty sure "Sunshine Melancholy" is my original phrase, unless I unknowingly stole it from Keats. Or Tom Waits. Or Steve Eggers. But please, use it if you can, nothing would make me happier.
Mike your getting better with age,,,class of 85 ,,,stoughton,,miss those days bro
