  • Join us on this 2 part series as we head deep into the wilderness to chase Lake Trout and Whitefish! Due to the sheer distance, we opt to ice camp to increase fishing time and have some incredible success. Join us here for Part 2 as we put some incredible fish on the ice!
This was our first time ice camping and it wont be our last. To other experienced ice campers out there, what is some necessary gear on your list? I think we really need to upgrade our cots for this coming Winter ha.

Ditch your cots, total waste of space and weight. Get yourself nemo Insulated pads. Put down tarp on the ground/ ice and pad on top of it. -20/-40f sleeping bag and you're set. Keep your stove legs up on a couple pieces of wood to keep ice/ snow melt to a minimum.

Put an elbow on the end and you can adjust it for the winds or at least have your chimney top perfectly horizontal. Awesome adventure!

Would you explain the "paper bag on the grill" please?

    • @U.P.FishPAN

@5199je sure? After scaling ur whitefish. Ok pin bone your fillet. Which is a small slit on both side of the bone line. Remove any trim on the belly wash fillet briefly. Place on a paper bag push the fillet together ( u should have a V still held together by the tail end ) sorry I'm no great instructor haha now push it together. Trace in on the paper and cut with ur knife or a razor knife leave about a 1/8th over hang cus ur fillet will shink a bit and u can use a butter dill or garlic Cajun anything u like I recommend a dill and baste em 2 3 x. Put on your grill and watch em haha if u never had same day whitefish. Try it. The day u catch 1 scale it on the ice.. bring a spoon or scaler n keep the fish in a bucket and don't let it freeze! Keep it fresh as u can b4 u fillet it. And you let me know how that turns out. Hope I could help you! Man I'm hungry now hahaha

Make sure to put the paper bag side toward the fire. When cooked you peel the paper and the scales and skin come with. I haven't had to scale salmon but whitefish may need to be scaled.

Finally got a chance to watch part II. The slow-motion camera work from the interior of the wood stove, along with the music. I could feel the heat like I was there. Grant, that monster laker is truly a fish of a lifetime! I truly appreciate your passion for fishing AND your love/respect for those "SPECIAL" fish. I'm glad to see that Eskimo has gotten behind Superior Angling! Honestly, I'm trying to figure out why sponsors aren't lining up to support Superior Angling!!! My wife asked me what I wanted for Xmas. I thought about it for a few minutes and said, "How about some Superior Angling merchandise?" What better way to support my favorite fishing show! You guys are TOP SHELF!!
