Yes the plantains are sweet. You can also make them with green plantains - it will have a little crunch

At the beginning, this dish was mostly for rich people in Cameroon, because they were the only ones who could afford to buy it. Chicken was expensive back then. So, the plate was named "Poulet DG" Poulet is Chicken in French; DG is an abbreviation of Directeur General (General Manager or CEO). The plate was for CEOs. Those rich CEO's ate it during their lunches at work.
