I have just heard of the master's passing and am devastated. I saw him at Carnegie Hall and the North Sea Jazz Festival and at several Philadelphia venues. Every time I watched, there came a point where disassociated and felt like I was levitating. I am sad that I will never see you again - you were the best.
Who am I to applaud him? For I am no more than a mere mortal watching in awe the magic he creates in Table! What I can merely do is to prostrate in front of him for giving me the fortune to watch him create soulful magic.
This man has no words to describe him A musical mathematical prodigy Godly traits Perhaps the sole tabla nawaz who never fails to mesmerize you every single performance
I became enthralled by the Tabla sound when I was in high school and 2 years later I unknowingly became next door neighbors with Zakir and his family. I found this out when I met his daughter at a party. That they lived next door and also he taught in Berkeley. He was very strict in his teaching and wasn’t anything like taking a piano or guitar lesson. His approach is totally it’s your life. He’s called Ustad Allah Raka for a reason. Which means God of Drumming. Basically THE MAN
This is like listening to a Bach fugue. There are multiple simultaneous voices maintaining their phrasing and integrity throughout the performance -- no matter how energetic or subdued; simple or intricate. Remarkable depth here.
I have seen him in his old videos as a young man playing Tabla & today he has become an old man..... But his spirit hasn't gone down a bit. These people dedicated their entire life to music & never got commercialized. He belongs to the last generation of people who dedicated their entire life to Hindustani music. Zakir Hussain, Amjad Ali, Pt.Shivkumar, Hariprasad Chourasia are some of the last living legends from that generation. With these maestros, that marvelous era will come to an end. So sad.... Our country's young generation do not even know about these great legends. We can learn about seriousness, hardwork, love & dedication from these maestros.
I remember him from an ad they used to show on TV. I was just a kid then. He played Tabla and then said "Wah Taj". I was never exposed to his music but somehow when I saw the thumbnail I had a strange urge to see this video. Ah I love his playing.
I was here when this was recorded! This performance brought tears to my eyes. The aura created through his seamless mastery made me laugh and cry. Thank you for uploading :)
Im tremendously happy to witness a legendary musician playing with Tabla, we need more youngsters to get these music to world stage like ustaad Zakhir ji did, i wish to meet zakhir ji once in my lifetime.
The next generation will see the recordings and think that there was such a tabla player in this world. He has fascinated music lovers all over the world with all kinds of duets, solos and fusions. His love of music, sacrifice, penance, hard work, always humorous and humble behavior - many qualities will make him remembered as a glorious great man for ever and ever.❤❤❤
Legend. I have personally listened Zakir bhai several times! Solo as well as with his father and his brothers! Each time it has been a mesmerising event. I feel it's God's blessing to get to listen to him live!
My first ever interactions with the tabla were through him and his father, the genius Ustad Allah Rakha. For over 20 years that I've known and admired him, this legend has mesmerized, and continues to inspire. I owe so much of my tabla progress to you, Ustad Zakir Hussain!! Thank you, and lots of love
What a control of Ustadji's hand over the different types of sound, laya, speed, sweetness, layakari and what not ! The Supreme Power has offered the supremacy to Ustadji of this popular instrument from His contentment against Ustadji's wholeheartedness in Tabla. Jayatu Indian Tabla.
Maine ye zakir hussain ka zindagi me pehla video dekha hai, sirf naam suna tha aur Table par pehli thap sunkar hi pata lag gya ki log kyon inhein great kehte hai 🎉
So grateful for his talent, generosity, kindness and purity. Listening to his playing elevated millions of souls. Now we all grieve. Thank you, Maestro!
My father Zakir Hussain has graced with age and his playing is still so beautiful to this day and i love him so much. Long may he continue in this incredible journey of making a solid mark in the world of the most magestic all round king the Tabla.
You just HAVE to stand and applaud his art. Every time, all the time. Even if you are listening to this at home. You just can’t help it. So grateful to have been born in an era where one has had the pleasure and honour to hear him live. UstaadJi 🙏🏻
Ustad Zakir Hussain the ultimate in Indian percussion music. When his father Ustad Allarakha played everybody thought he was the real ustad. However ,Ustad Zakir Hussain proved like father like son.Ustad Zakir Hussain was attached to his roots. An epitome of Indian culture. May his soul attain moksh. Om Shanti 🙏🙏
Ustadji's contributions and compositions and collaborations with Hindustani artists, carnatic artists and western artists are a gift to goddess MA saraswathi 🙏🙏🙏
His ability to control the pitch of the bayan is incredible, and I love how dynamically he plays - he is never simply banging on them. I would love to have seen this whole concert, as I see more tabla and other Indian instruments there.
With profound sorrow, we mourn the passing of the tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, whose presence graced our lives with warmth and kindness. May their soul find eternal peace, and their memory be a guiding light for us all......
I was not familiar with this genius until I read about him tonight. Lucky for me I was curious and looked up this performance. Brilliant!!! I loved it! This was like nothing I heard before.
you were so friendly I had dinner after the concert at RFH with all your family backstage! Wonderful energy and experience 💞 Stay safe, happy and what you are doing with the tabla always? You are the master of tabla and thank you for looking after me ❤
I'm playing the tablas in my college's indian ensemble so I thought Id watch some videos for pointers and to watch, needless to say i have just been humbled hard.

A Legend,The Son of India....Our Zakir Hussain Sir.....Wow Wow Wow!!!!
Unparalleled lightness of touch! The fingers almost float across the tabla
There are kings of percussions and then there is an emperor
I have had the honor and privilege to witness this legend twice in my life. Both times reaffirmed spirituality within me.
Who am I to applaud him? For I am no more than a mere mortal watching in awe the magic he creates in Table! What I can merely do is to prostrate in front of him for giving me the fortune to watch him create soulful magic.

भारतीय परंपरा में कलाकार हमेशा अंत में हाथ जोड़ते हैं। मुझे यह बहुत अच्छा लगता है।
Indian artists always fold hands at the end. I love it.

If you know a little about Tabla , You are at the bottom of Earth Core and he is sitting at Everest
It should be titled berklee meets zakhir hussain...
Had the privilege to Meet the legend backstage for barely 5 secs ...but it was such a great moment❤️🙏🙏
Im tremendously happy to witness a legendary musician playing with Tabla, we need more youngsters to get these music to world stage like ustaad Zakhir ji did, i wish to meet zakhir ji once in my lifetime.
