That's true, but we have to make our own assumptions now, that if succession was allowed, would the south (or whatever country they'd be called now) and the north (would be the USA) be still at odds? or at war? we would be 2 separate countries and likely at war much like that in the middle east, spain later, the Vulcans, Israel......We can argue about whether Lincoln should have let them secede or not but that's the past. There's no changing that. I for one am glad we are not at war now in the 21st century like some of these other countries because the bloodshed is pointless.

My boss was in Texas on a business trip years ago. He took his client to a bar at night. A few acts performed some songs and then... Tiny Tim took the stage. I was born in San Antonio and raised in Houston until 1970. Texas was always refered to as part of the Greater Southwest.
