Thank you so much for the impartation. God bless you. I wish to ask, it is not possible in the case of a hectare farm to rather mix the cabyte calcium and spray the plants instead?

Thank you so much for this video! I have a question: can I put the calcium carbide in a bottle and place it next to the plant inside box for a day? The gas should enclose the entire plant and have same effect? Or does the gas have to be concentrated at the very crown?
It most likely will not work. The pineapple should have grown big enough to be able to sustain the growth of the fruit. Smaller plants will produce smaller fruits.
The size of pineapple fruit depends a lot on the size of the main plant before flowering. So efforts should be made to get the plant to become as big as possible before flowering. After flowering fruit development may be influenced to a limited extent with fertilizer. A potassium nitrate fertilizer (applied as foliar spray) can be used.
@Dr. Obi: I have NPK 19-19-19 fertilizer (nitrogen - pottasium - phosphorous) in powder form. Can I dilute in water and use this as a foliage spray for my pineapple which has recently flowered? It's a fairly big healthy looking plant.
Yes, you can use the juice of rotten apples as it produces ethylene gas. Simply cut up some apples and keep them in a closed container until they start to decompose. Get a plastic syringe 💉 to suck up the juice from the apples and place in the middle of the pineapples.
Just waiting, the resulting gas is ethylene which all it does is "ages" the plant faster than nature already does. ALL plants, veggies and especially fruits produces this gas in altogether very metered doses. So your pineapple WILL flowers if given the opportunities to do so. Pineapples does best in 72.5F or so so my bets are if anything you'll probably get one to appear around the summer months if your area is colder.
Have you ever tried putting ripe tomato (cherry or grape sized, or maybe even Roma type) on or near the plant to take advantage of ethylene that tomatoes produce?
It's the acetylene gas produced when carbide reacts with water can can be harmful when inhaled. You should be fine if you just use small quantities and wear gloves as well as nose mask when using.
@@Setiitright please check the Google. It comes in various colours depending on the level of impurities. The one used was white on the outside due to the calcium hydroxide residues. The actual colour was a shade of brown.
The more "rotten" the fruits (espeically bananas) the higher the amounts. But don't expect the world, man made always "beats" nature at her game. At consequences though since we are "forcing" her to produce beyond natural levels of the area.
@@dr_obisgardenThat's exactly why. A banana peel will also do it. You leave it in a bottle overnight with a little bit of water in the bottle and the cap on and the gas will build up And you dump it over your plant and the ethylene produced by the rotting fruit gets trapped in the water
Although they SHOULD be getting full sun, don't worry if you are limited mine is still GROWING with like 4 hours at BEST of indirect sunlight. Your best options obviously would to take it out when it's warmer or artificially provides supplemental grow lighting. Even basic 19W or so ones would be better for the plants than not enough at all.
Would it be fair to say that the reason a pineapple doesn't flower is that it doesnt have enough energy to produce a fully grown fruit? Once it reaches a certain maturity, it will flower knowing it has the reserves to do so. Similiar to fruit trees. If u induce it while the plant is too young, your pineapple may be quite small. Correct me if I am wrong?
Flowering in pineapple depends on a number of factors. One of them is the developmental state. Young plants don't have enough resources (including energy) to produce a big fruit and the plant structure is not developed enough to Carry the weight of a big fruit even if the energy was available. Therefore, if you force a young plant or even an old plant that is small in size, it'll produce a small fruit. Other factors can affect pineapple flowering is environmental cues such as water availability and temperature.
@@dr_obisgarden Thank u . .. I have watched a number of your videos and I must say u produce quality videos. Not too long and to the point, while being very practical. Well done.
This method doesn't induce flowers, but fruits. Similar to ginger, pineapples are propagated vegetatively and have been selectively bred to not devote energies to flowering
I disagree. The pineapple fruit is actually a fusion of several flowers which develop together after fertilization into a single 'multifruit'. The technique shown in the video induces the formation of the pineapple inflorescence (group of flowers/florets). Although, pineapple is vegetatively propagated, it's very unlike ginger. The organ of economic importance in ginger is the rhizomes (underground stem) whereas the edible portion of the pineapple is the fruit. The pineapple flowers form first before fruit development. The pineapple fruit is very similar to strawberry and has tiny seeds which can actually be used for propagation. These seeds are often used for breeding purposes and often take longer mature.
Great, this worked for me. I followed the water bottle method. My pineapple plant finally bloomed after sitting idle for past 4 years. Thanks!
