Ok I’ve been playing with this career a ton, so here’s what I’ve learned: 1. if you only get dislikes, you can suggest a different color or décor style until they give you something they like 2. You can’t pick a new gig while at work, it glitches when you get home 3. If a customer really likes your work they’ll ask you back, so you can slowly renovate their whole house 4. You can send sims to a gig alone, and they will still make money 5. If a customer really likes your work you can get paid double
I haven't really played with the career as much, and I haven't found anything online so I'm asking you, does the career work on a save file that is completely reworked? like, zero townies from EA and completely renovated/changed houses? I feel like that should still work because the sims is a sandbox game, but something makes me feel like it doesn't. Just curious if you, or someone else might know. :3

You should've tested the room addition and floor addition renovations because they were the ones that straight up did not work. Supposedly they fixed the room addition ones in the most recent patch (over a year late) but I have my doubts !
The only room addition issues I had (I played the career up to lvl 10 with Bella Goth) was that after I already added a room to a lot, I would get another room addition gig. All fine and dandy, right? Sometimes you need two house expansions! But the second time I would go it already counted the last additions tiles as part of the new addition!! So I couldn't add a second new room!!
I was so stoked when they supposedly fixed the decorator gig stuff, but I haven’t gone back yet to really test it out. I really was so frustrated and annoyed when I tried to do an addition and nothing and I mean nothing worked.

I think the reason they don’t just tell you is because they need your sim doing stuff that makes time actually progress. Because while you’re doing the renovation, time doesn’t progress. It would be weird if your sim went to work and came home only 30 minutes later.
I found the dhd works a lot better using a "fresh" save file where all NPCs have reasonable likes and dislikes -- I downloaded a save file from someone on Tumblr who had gone thru all townies likes and dislikes and it worked soooo much better than my regular legacy save

It's easier if you ask them what their favorite color or hobbies are in the friendly menu, and combine that with what the game gives you from the pack alone to ask the clients. And something I learned playing, you don't need to get decoration/furniture that the Sim likes only, you can mix it up as long as you don't put a decoration style that the Sim doesn't like

I once did a legacy where I focused on the active careers. I slowly renovated their whole house but they all liked what the others hated. Depending on who I talked to they liked and the house ended with a pink and brick living room, burnt orange kitchen, black and red bathroom and a purple and a green bedroom with sports theme 🤣

I like it, I've played the active career a bit, but I don't always because it's quite a bit of work. if you don't play active and let your Sim just go alone, you can advance really quickly and earn a lot of money, but the problem is that the jobs literally last 9-9! which is very very long in a sim day

I had so much fun watching this, I love how the Pancake's picked something that seemed so strange for their bathroom, but the theme ended up being awesome in the end. Also I love how no one comments on Stanley showing up in his hotdog costume, like that didn't raise a red flag for you that your decorator is a hotdog?? Thanks for the giggles after a very long day!
my biggest dream home decorator horror story is taking on an add a level job and getting one of the mansions in the get famous world. it.... had four floors. because of a weird architectural piece. i physically could not put a new level in. why was it even an option for tha kind of job :sob:
i really hope the bugs are fixed now, the first and only time i tried to play it, it bugged out and wouldnt let me leave the house or finish the job and that poor sim is just stuck in that persons house forever now.
Would love to see you do a series with your designer sim! And/or a Realm of Magic play through - maybe you could combine them? A couple where one wife is a designer and the other is a Spellcaster?
i had a lot of gigs where i did it exactly how they asked and they hated it anyway. i think what helps is asking everyone in the household their favorite color and decor and just writing it down somewhere else.
it's frustrating that you could follow EVERYTHING exactly, write down every like and dislike they have, and it's still like a 50/50 chance of whether they love it or hate it. with big families, it sometimes takes me 5-6 in-game hours to ask them everything and get all their likes and dislikes, and still get 0$ pay
tbh the appeal of the home decorator career, for me, is that the game *still* has that bug (?) where you can just put whatever you want from the client's home into your household inventory. One gig glitched such that I couldn't get *any* preferences from the clients- not even useless ones- so I just did the most basic reno possible, switched their expensive items for cheap ones, and spent their remaining budget buying whatever I wanted. The successful gig would've paid $800, but I walked away with $30,000. Best career in the game lol
@@augusto7681 I know at least on PC that items can be quickly moved from the lot to the household inventory by selecting the object and hitting the backspace key, not just by the usual drag-and-drop method (idk if there's an equivalent on consoles). if that's not working, I'd guess you have a different bug preventing it
I've had the same problem with the gig disappearing and I think it was because I picked it when my sim was still at the 'old' finished gig. When I sent my sim home and then picked a gig it stayed, but if the sim was still at the previous location it always disappeared.
The interior decorator pack is literally my fav pack and I love playing it all the time and sometimes I just get so annoyed when u can’t add the rooms for the room addition thingy and all the bugs it’s just sometimes annoying, but still in love with the pack x
I was excited when I got the pack, however EVERY time I did a gig they never liked any of them no matter how hard I tried. I just stopped trying with the job, which made the pack essentially just a stuff pack. With the new update I might try the carrier again and hopefully it’s successful. I love the idea of going to renovate the houses of pre-made townies or other sims I don’t play outside of my own household. It keeps the world fresh.
I’ve been playing with the pack since the update too and I noticed that if you select a gig and then travel home it’ll make the gig go away. Not sure if this is when you travel in general but definitely annoying if you think you got one scheduled for the next day and it never was :(
I've been playing dream home decorator for hours after getting it last month. Playing while watching your channel and now playing while you retry dream home decorator ☺️
I renovated a gym once, accidentally deleted the main room but when I undid it charged me all the money to replace everything, it was like 50k simoleons over budget before I changed a damn thing.
I bought Dream Home Decorator yesterday, but only for the items. When I realised that I had mini ovens. and worktop stoves... I was so happy... I wish it had more than one wardrobe, more showers, and more toilets.
I'm done giving EA my money honestly. This pack that I was so excited for is so bugged it's unplayable, as is the wedding pack, the detective career, Sims can't function if there's toddlers OR pets on the lot, it's embarrassing that I've wasted so much money on it. I want to support the creators and the game that I love but from now on it's just mods and CC for me :(
The Wedding Pack was such a good idea and I was so excited to marry my Sims in a proper way… Everytime I would try to call over my guests to do something, they’d go the completely opposite direction. I scheduled the wedding for 12pm and wasn’t able to leave the lot until 10pm because I couldn’t get anything to work :( I was so disappointed…
Same dude, I got sick of paying for this dumpster fire ages ago - but with little else to choose from on the same scale of the sims I've felt super trapped into it. Luckily I play PC so mods and cc have been options (plus a little bit of piracy whenever a new pack comes our but shuuuuush). Who knows, maybe one day there'll be a decent life sim that doesn't ship with half the content you'd expect.
Agreed. I hope the monopoly that EA has on detailed, expansive life sims will end soon and we get a decent alternative. There are a fair few RPGs that can be played in dynasty mode, but Crusader Kings 3 doesn't quite scratch the same itch
@@vanguardiris3232 I'm hopeful that if/when Paralives releases it'll be good. It's not a big company or anything so I doubt it'll keep up (sims has already been nicking ideas from the paralives tech displays like the rounded walls, alt placed doors and windows ect.) but if it can scratch that itch then some ppl will defo save money
This is my favorite game pack because it forces me to create rooms i normally would NEVER create, and like Kayla said it opens up so many chaotic possibilities! Once I had the Goths as a client for a kitchen reno and they said they hate cooking, like gardening, and love the color orange. So I did an orange kitchen with no stove or oven, put plant boxes wherever I could, and make the whole room orange and they LOVED it. Did the room look insane? Yes, but it was so much fun
Avoid gardening stuff... It's an apartment. There is no place for gardening stuff. Like dancing ? Add a dance floor and sound system. In the bathroom ? Why not ? I want EA to fix the gardening bug. I'm sick of having my plants reverting to just planted for no reason. That bug have gotten WORST after the last update😭😤🤬 The better the quality of the plants, the more likely they are to revert. Forgot to harvest ? Chances of reverting increase. Travel to anywhere ? Plants will probably revert. Change the clothing of your Sims in CaS ? Get ready for your plants to revert. Resume playing ? Check your plants, they may have reverted. Lot have the good soil trait ? = Increased chances of reverting.
@@usagiwhitenight There are threads about that bug in EA's own forums... In EVERY supported languages. Every threads are at least 30 pages long. And that's those opened after EA closed the original ones claiming that that bug got squashed. The very same day, the new threads got started...
I actually used this as one of my sims career in my gameplay and it worked great for me! it was fun definitely a good way to make loads of money quickly in my opinion. there are a few bugs here and there but it doesn't make it unplayable :)
I will have to look into Dream Home Decorator too....I created a new sim in a new game...I built and opened a restaurant and got married...the restaurant worked well, after I locked the adjoining hangout so the employees and customers stayed at the restaurant...I actually have it past a 4 star, almost a 5!!! My sim also married Bess, you know, THAT Bess who always wants us to invest in her business...she also was the one who wanted to date and proposed to us! ...okay, my sim did decide to organize the wedding, after facing a fear of impending death...he decided he better marry soon before death came! The wedding actually went well...took me a few tries planning it, since I hadn't played it for a while and had kinda given up on weddings! lol I hope this wasn't a nice coincidence and that these things really are not working well yet....yes, it went that well...of course the wedding was late at night and many guests were so tired that they decided to sleep on the couches! ...but they all stayed and actually cheered at the wedding...oddly enough though, one guest sat up close to the couple on the ground to watch the wedding...kinda odd, but was funny, especially since he was the most animated and kept clapping and cheering........
i ususally ask more questions after the three options for the career are filled... I just use friendly to ask favorite color and taste in decor and use that as well.. It works!
hello, I'm starting my Sims channel, there are a lot of fresh ideas, I would be pleased to see you among the subscribers, there are a lot of interesting things ahead on the Sims 3 and Sims 4 series
My work-around for likes/dislikes was always asking the clients "What is your favorite Color" or "What is your favorite Decor", etc. since those questions still show up in the conversation wheel. They preferences show up in the notifications so I don't have to remember them.
I wish the build menu filters by decor made more sense. Plus 75% of base game is mission/mid century so if you have just dhd and base game you're kinda screwed
I loved this game pack - I searched for all of you to watch you play it..... I was sad when all of the youtubers stopped playing as it was so buggy... but it is the sims and what else is new? Thank for revisiting it!
i played with this career like two months ago. it was okay, but i only did room/level renovations, no additions (i knew they were broken). i also noticed that my game was more laggy because of the amount of photos you have to take. thats why my sims eventually quit this carrer
I've had a similar problem to yours: if I book another gig while at the lot where I did the previous gig, the new one will disappear as soon as I get back to my own lot
Literally I never actually use the renovation questions, I always just ask favourite colour, ask hobbies ect so I don't just get loads of negatives (plus occasionally if the like nothing I just cheat it)
I actually really enjoy dream home decorator. I play on console and it works really well for me. Granted I will straight up ask Sims their preferences that way I get more than 3. I've been promoted several times and I've remodeled tons of Sims homes. I've even been recommended and invited back! It's one of my favorite additions tbh. I was so confused by all of the hate tbh.
Same, it works pretty well, same with the wedding pack, there's the usual sims glitches but I keep autonomy off/low and I use mccc and UI cheats which helps haha
You can continue to ask them for more information which will override the three listed. All their information will still show up in the notification wall for reference though since ALL their likes and dislikes are taken into account, not just the three listed.
If you go through friendly options, likes and dislikes, you can also ask them about their colour preferences etc there. If the three slots have been filled up in the gig info it won’t save them there, BUT you can still read what they said in notifications!

Honestly, I've been having fun with this pack despite the fact that it's kinda buggy and the clients don't give you anything useful to work with, it's just beautiful chaos.

i have one save where im basically just very slowly redecorating the world through the decorator carreer. i agree its not for your save where you want to do basically anything else.
Others have said it too but I think the key for this pack is for having specific save filled with townies with their own organised likes and come back to it occasionally to do the career when you feel like it.
I got this pack a few months ago, and I’m really thankful I haven’t had any issues with it so far, it’s one of my favorite packs I have. My only issue with it is I can’t send my sim to work alone, or they’ll work the entire day and not come home until 9pm 😂
I am big on editing the premade sims in all my saves - at first it was to fix the terrible outfits and delete eyeball rings. Then likes and dislikes came out and I discovered premade sims’ preferences were incredibly limited. Something that was supposed to make interactions more interesting actually turned out to be a bummer. Now I edit their preferences so getting to know them is more fun, they can geek out over shared love of Spop, and getting to know my clients’ preferences actually yields useful information.
For the Karaoke gig, "hates cooking" means take out some counters/cabinets, put in a microwave, and replace the arch with a regular door. The living room needs to feature karaoke so hang stage lights above it, I made a platform stage & they loved it. No plants.
Love watching your builds but this would be the bathroom of my nightmares in real life lol. Toilet facing directly into the hallway and largest windows on the front of the house 😭🤣. I've never tried actually using this pack though and it seems like it would be fun.
It would be nice to be able to order this as a service with your phone. As you would do with a gardener or catering service... That kind of thing. You would talk with the designer, and then have a room redecorated according to your sim's preferences.
Yes, go play with Realm of Magic! I made my NSB Gen 6 heir a spellcaster and I'm having a blast using all those mischievous spells I'd normally never play with. My sim isn't gonna win a fight and isn't generally mean so their friends and family may think they are "bad" at evil, but they just don't know...! Honestly spellcasters are probably my favorite occult, I didn't realize until recently how many of them I have floating around in my template save. Dedeathify is my favorite way to bring sims back from the dead for example.
I really love this pack and the build/buy but I hate when they don’t give you theme/ colors they like, and I feel like the budgets we are given most of the time are veryyyy unrealistic sometimes I have trouble finding how to spend the whole budget especially if it’s a bathroom Reno etc it can be hard to spend 8k in a tiny bathroom. But you do make a lot of money compared to other careers
You don't have to spend the entire amount. Sims supposedly appreciate it when you spend less because in theory you're saving them some money. The 8K is just the maximum they're willing to shell out for what they want and they'll get angry if you go over their budget.
You can suggest a style to the sims, talk to other members of the household and get them to give you a different like/dislike but the system isn't set up very well
My worst dream home decorator job was a walk-in-closet renovation where one of the clients wanted rocket science. The closet they had was 2x2 tiles and the only thing that showed up as counting towards rocket science for me was actual rockets. I tried to fulfill the 2 other requirements and they still threw a tantrum getting mad at my sim and stomping around because i didn’t put a rocket in their closet.

Thanks for the giggles after a very long day!
maybe blue can become an interior decorator and make everyone houses..... blue
my biggest dream home decorator horror story is taking on an add a level job and getting one of the mansions in the get famous world.
it.... had four floors. because of a weird architectural piece. i physically could not put a new level in. why was it even an option for tha kind of job :sob:
basement?
@@plasmoasis ohh i didnt even think of that, level to me means going up :0 thats a good point tho
i really hope the bugs are fixed now, the first and only time i tried to play it, it bugged out and wouldnt let me leave the house or finish the job and that poor sim is just stuck in that persons house forever now.
Every Sim is the worst client. "I know you did exactly what I asked, but my five-year-old decided he hates it so you've done a terrible job."
@@starstruck_sims ugh i know, usually i just give myself money anyway bc i spent all that time im GONNA get payed for it!
tbh the appeal of the home decorator career, for me, is that the game *still* has that bug (?) where you can just put whatever you want from the client's home into your household inventory.
I saw this bug in her older video but its doesnt work for me. How did you do that ?
@@augusto7681 I know at least on PC that items can be quickly moved from the lot to the household inventory by selecting the object and hitting the backspace key, not just by the usual drag-and-drop method (idk if there's an equivalent on consoles). if that's not working, I'd guess you have a different bug preventing it
I've had the same problem with the gig disappearing and I think it was because I picked it when my sim was still at the 'old' finished gig. When I sent my sim home and then picked a gig it stayed, but if the sim was still at the previous location it always disappeared.
Thats right. You cant chose a new gig while in your client lot becayse it will disaper as soon you return home.
I will always love this pack's build stuff, im a huge fan for smooth modern and mid-century!
Dream home decorator, speaks to my Interior Decorator dreams (irl). It’s probably my favourite for build items
@@abbray Same. At this point I will try anything, but I hope Paralives comes to good
You should rebuild the pancakes house using that bathroom as inspiration. I would love to see the whole house have that same type of design
I know you did a rating packs video but what about rating the packs based exclusively on the build buy items?
these videos are so fun!
Building is my favorite thing in the game and I struggle with game play so I love this career 🥰
Please more of this!! I love watching a good ol simsie Reno!!
That bug have gotten WORST after the last update😭😤🤬
The better the quality of the plants, the more likely they are to revert.
I have noticed this too and I thought I was the only one. It’s so annoying!!
@@usagiwhitenight There are threads about that bug in EA's own forums... In EVERY supported languages.
Every threads are at least 30 pages long. And that's those opened after EA closed the original ones claiming that that bug got squashed. The very same day, the new threads got started...
Play the game? Get ready for your sims too not have any shoes despite the fact they had them in cas! LIKE SERIOUSLY! GIVE ME MY SHOES BACK!
@@user-Beans2017 Missing shoe ? I never noticed that one. That barely register as a glitch compared to the plant bug.
I actually used this as one of my sims career in my gameplay and it worked great for me! it was fun definitely a good way to make loads of money quickly in my opinion. there are a few bugs here and there but it doesn't make it unplayable :)
I mean, bugs aside, one of the things I like about DHD is that I can go around and get paid to fix the iffy EA builds lol.
I've actually been playing realm of magic a lot lately myself. It's such a fun pack, would love to see a more recent video on it.
I just got started this career but I wasn't clear on what I was supposed to do this actually seems quite interesting after all.
Bob & Eliza: we don’t like brown
Literally whole house is already brown 😂
@@erinveara1373 inherit house for sure🤣
i ususally ask more questions after the three options for the career are filled...
The mention of Realm of Magic at the end makes me a want a supernatural themed legacy/not so berry challenge 🔮
My work-around for likes/dislikes was always asking the clients "What is your favorite Color" or "What is your favorite Decor", etc. since those questions still show up in the conversation wheel. They preferences show up in the notifications so I don't have to remember them.
I get it Bob, I do all my dancing in my bathroom... in which there is absolutely NO space but I make it work (yes, that includes some bruising)💯
I love this pack! Can you do a series of this?
I wish the build menu filters by decor made more sense. Plus 75% of base game is mission/mid century so if you have just dhd and base game you're kinda screwed
At my apartment they do yard work (lawn mowing, leaf blowing, loud things) like 3 times a week it seems.
I've always gotten super lucky I don't get any bad bugs in my game. Dream home decorator became my favorite back so quickly!
New series combined with Kayla's love (building) I'm into it ♥️
I love watching ur videos they are just so entertaining
I loved this game pack - I searched for all of you to watch you play it..... I was sad when all of the youtubers stopped playing as it was so buggy... but it is the sims and what else is new? Thank for revisiting it!
i played with this career like two months ago. it was okay, but i only did room/level renovations, no additions (i knew they were broken). i also noticed that my game was more laggy because of the amount of photos you have to take. thats why my sims eventually quit this carrer
I had that problem now every time I take photos I go to files and delete all the photos and screenshots before launching the game.
yesss a realm of magic series would be so nice and in theme with halloween
I've had a similar problem to yours: if I book another gig while at the lot where I did the previous gig, the new one will disappear as soon as I get back to my own lot
Literally I never actually use the renovation questions, I always just ask favourite colour, ask hobbies ect so I don't just get loads of negatives (plus occasionally if the like nothing I just cheat it)
Can’t wait for your Dreamlight Valley review!
I hope your real life Dream Home decorating has ZERO GLITCHES!
You can continue to ask them for more information which will override the three listed. All their information will still show up in the notification wall for reference though since ALL their likes and dislikes are taken into account, not just the three listed.
that was fun to watch! id like to see u playing this careers more!
If you go through friendly options, likes and dislikes, you can also ask them about their colour preferences etc there. If the three slots have been filled up in the gig info it won’t save them there, BUT you can still read what they said in notifications!
hello, I'm starting my Sims channel, there are a lot of fresh ideas, I would be pleased to see you among the subscribers, there are a lot of interesting things ahead on the Sims 3 and Sims 4 series
You should've tried the add room gig, supposedly the Sims team fixed it
I’ve come to the realization that Kayla is a chaotic sims player and she loves it.
i have been playing with dream home decorator lately and everytime i go to a new household to fix one room they have 3 toddlers and two babies, all dying of hunger and not enough space for beds.... but yeah that same bug happens to me if i select a new gig before i leave the current household i was fixing, like i can only pick a new gig when im back home
That's why i have neighbour stories off. I hate the sims just having more kids and nowhere to put them.
@@rachelcookie321 i forgot that it is on so my game is full of babies XD
I always play with a klepto in case I don't get paid and the Sim doesn't like it. They steal something before they start.
I Play A Spellcaster that knows Burgliate and is also a Klepto
@@WolfheartFoxlover Yep. I also use the glitch that deletes stuff into your own household inventory. It doesn't surprise me they never fixed that.
Honestly, I've been having fun with this pack despite the fact that it's kinda buggy and the clients don't give you anything useful to work with, it's just beautiful chaos.
hello, I'm starting my Sims channel, there are a lot of fresh ideas, I would be pleased to see you among the subscribers, there are a lot of interesting things ahead on the Sims 3 and Sims 4 series
I’ve had lots of fun with Dream Home Decorator for the past few months.
My gigs haven’t been ending.. the reveal party just doesn’t ever end. I can’t even tell if I’m getting paid lol
Ive had that same glitch since the patch - if you accept a new gig before you leave the old one, you lose it when you return home.
i have one save where im basically just very slowly redecorating the world through the decorator carreer. i agree its not for your save where you want to do basically anything else.
I miss when you could hang up art your own sim painted in the houses the would renovate
Watching your videos make me so much happier especially with the area of life I’m in right now (by that i mean im losing all my friends
Others have said it too but I think the key for this pack is for having specific save filled with townies with their own organised likes and come back to it occasionally to do the career when you feel like it.
My second gig with this pack, had someone love writing but hate video games. Both included only desks and computers I think do I could do anything
I got this pack a few months ago, and I’m really thankful I haven’t had any issues with it so far, it’s one of my favorite packs I have. My only issue with it is I can’t send my sim to work alone, or they’ll work the entire day and not come home until 9pm 😂
The sims also prefer most of the budget to be used, and you can use their regular likes/dislikes that you find out while in regular conversations.
in the end, when you were talking about not wanting to go with them, I believe there was an option to send alone (1:15)
Please do more videos with this pack. I love this it’s so funny.
OH! Please do one like this with the wedding pack!
I have a little speaker in my bathroom for that reason lol to listen to music while I’m showering ♥️
The fact the pancakes hate brown, but most of their house is brown is on point for character 💀
Please do a series of this with Stanley (or sim you). I love seeing what you come up with for each gig based on the clients requests
It would be nice to be able to order this as a service with your phone. As you would do with a gardener or catering service... That kind of thing. You would talk with the designer, and then have a room redecorated according to your sim's preferences.
I always like to go with them to work and school. I really have fun in all the working jobs and school and university and the pet clinic 😊😊😊
So funny that I almost bought it yesterday but decided to wait and now you post this
That red color looks great on you!
You can suggest other styles/colours and the preferences will change
The Golden Bathroom Stuff from Get Famous: Am I A Joke To You
You don't have to spend the entire amount.
