I never take the "based on a true story" line seriously anymore, especially when it comes to horror movies, I see it as a cheap marketing gimmick.
I only take it seriously if it's a straight-up documentary.
Wait wait wait a Hollywood film was historically inaccurate? I'm shocked.
nooctip 😂😂😂😂👍🏻
Thank you for pointing out the inaccuracy of upside down crosses being evil.
Yes we should thank this man. 👍
Every time I told my friends about the upside down cross myth. NOT ONE of them believed me.
@@callumjames7854 you can thank the 90s for that
Along with the ouija board
@@dragon22214 Actually we can thank all those Satan worship films in the 70s!
For those interested in the story involving Morris etc as opposed to the warrens there is a UK production called the Enfield haunting which includes all the omissions mentioned here.
And a vastly superior re-telling of the events
Yes , that is soooo much better than this Hollywood crap
I'm really like that you are standing up for the true investigation. If I remember correctly the photos of Janet levitating off of her bed, her legs are underneath her and it looks she is jumping. Not to mention the photos where taken with a motion sensor camera.
The other things are harder to explain like Janet losing weight at an amazingly fast speed (but not enough to levitate), or the fact when they talked to the son of the alleged Poltergeist he said his father had died in exactly the same way the alleged poltergeist said he did.
The thing I found most objectionable about this film was the insertion of the Warrens into this case as they played, at best, a peripheral role. The majority of the investigation was conducted by the late Guy Lyon Playfair and Maurice Grosse who found that while there was quite a lot of fraudulent behaviour there was some things that were genuinely not easily explained.
As per usual the Skeptic community, usually headed by proffessional magicians, claimed that the evidence could have been recreated by themselves and no doubt they are right, but the difference between a very experienced stage magician and a young teenage girl would be very noticeable.
"Marilyn Mason Nun..." You made me spew Coke on my monitor.
Yeah, that was pretty funny.
I'm hooked on your content. I just binged each one of your Final Destination reviews and I have no regrets. You deserve so many more subscribers. Much love ✌
I also just binged all 5 Final Destination reviews....i find I keep expecting the people in the clips here to diecin spectacularly impossible ways. Like, when the teo school girls are caught smoking, i was expecting one to blow up or something
I keep watching your reviews because your truly one of a kind . I Iove it.
23:10 Thank YOU!!! I was TIRED of all the medias online saying the upside-down cross was evil when it is clearly not.
About time someone else besides me mentions that the upside down cross isn't Satanic whatsoever
Same here. I always knew about the crucifixion of Saint Peter to be annoyed by how it is portrayed.
About the whole "Ouija board contacts your subconscious," thing, Brain Games did an interesting experiment on a Ouija board, saying that the reason why you move the planchette without your own accord is due to an affect in the brain, comparing it to something that I can't remember. I'll probably type what it was later.
"... ... Somebody owes Mike Flanagan some fu*kin' money." One of the best quotes ever on this channel.
Love your reviews , this channel seriously deserves more subscribers.
Roth Roth nah, he just needs at least 10k subs, maybe 1000 subs giving him $40 each a year. So at least he will give us good quality entertainment and still bother to read and reply to our comments. I'm just waiting for my job promotion so I could donate to him and support his channel and ensure he would do his reviews more consistently.
@nodinitiative
When I get another job, I could definitely get behind that. Next to GoodBadFlicks (which if you haven't visited his channel, I highly recommend, *Deusdaecon* is my favorite reviewer on RUclips. No one deconstructs a movie quite like him. The majority of them are either going for laughs, or are just too bloody serious.
*Deusdaecon* finds a nice balance between the two, with an attention to detail that the makers of these movies damn well SHOULD have, but don't. Because if they did, he wouldn't be slamming them so hard.
Infinitely. This guy's probably the most underrated horror reviewer on the Internet.
Although there is Decker Shado, Welshy and Phelous. Dangit.
16:52 did...did that alegid ghost really make a doctor who reference?
pretty much yeah
it feels like 30 minutes is to short. I can't get enough of these vids.
I love your reviews man. I swear you don't get enough credit for your hard work.
I really like your reviews. I appreciate your attention to detail. I’ve been watching them back to back. Could you do the insidious series, the Annabelle series, the first conjuring, and the Grudge series? I loved the way you approached The Ring series.
You, good sir, have just got yourself a new sub. Keep up the awesome work.
Only just realised how clever your intro is. Legit been listening/watching you for a few months now. Only just paid attention to the lyrics in your intro.
Well I’m glad someone understands what I was going for with the choice of song, and it wasn’t just “random metal music”, Thanks
It's a Marilyn Mansnun, you might say
I love your reviews. You're brutally honest.🤘
6:39-6:43 Don't forget Ouija, which is also an official Hasbro movie. Though I have heard good things about Origin of Evil, which is directed by Mike Flannigan, so you know the sequel is better when you've got the director of Oculus.
Note that the haunting begins when she takes the cigarette.
Be the generation that ends smoking
THANK YOU! Thank you for bringing up the fact the upside-down cross is St Peter's symbol and not a satanic symbol. I hate this cliché and completely wrong use of the symbol, and I am glad someone says itˆˆ
I mean the upside down cross is actually used by satanists, so even tho it wasn’t born as a satanic symbol, we can’t ignore that it does have a double meaning now
Sara Ds the *actual* Satanic Cross (used by the Satanic Church and even used in the Satanic Bible) does have some similar properties to the inverted cross, but it’s actually repurposing the alchemical symbol for Sulphur. The inverted cross thing is still wrong but it’s a lot more natural than an upright cross turning itself into the Satanic cross like a fucking Decepticon.
@@ThatRandomEncounterGuy it's like arguing the swastika is just a hindu icon, totally nothing to do with some 20th german group. or the confederate battle flag is totally a cultural symbol, nothing to do with slavery, nope nothing.
Moreover, it's very questionable that peter's executioners would indulge his religious wishes and increase their workload by crucifying him upside down so the peter's cross itself is also likely a made up adaption.
@@SinStar87 I don't really see how the historical accuracy is relevant to the argument; factually, the upside down cross is still used by the Catholic Church nowadays to represent the Pope, unlike the Confederate Battle Flag and the Swastika where the new meaning has kinda outweighted the original. Unless you want to argue the Catholic Church secretly is a satanist cult (which for all their flaws I think is pushing it a bit).
Also, is the upside down cross actually used by Satanism? Only place I ever remember seeing it used as a symbol of the devil is in fiction. I don't know of any satanist group who use it. And if it's a pure fictional thing, then... yeah, I think comparing it to symbols like the Swastica being actually used by bad groups in real life is a bit silly.
@@Theokal3 yes it's been adopted by satanist due to it's representation in fiction as a symbol of satan. It's no different from the Nazi Swastika supplanting the Indian origin. You wave a swastika people are going to think nazi, likewise display an upside down cross people are going to think satanist.
The bullies, I think, are ment to show the kids are a team and not your average bickering siblings. Also this shows how their bond was breaking down towards the middle of the movie. Where most of the ghostly stuff happens to the kids when their alone and not a team.
right if that was the point then it seems pretty irrelevant when they really don't do much "together" as in all three of them, theres not even one single scene where they just talk to each about whats going one, for example, not one.
I know i'm in for a good review when he has to put up a safety net "this is my opinion"
Where have you been all this time? BRILLIANT...JUST BRILLIANT!!
thank you for that i really appreciate it.
Completely agree with your analysis and I felt the same thing about the movie you did. Have you ever noticed that the nun-demon's name (Valak) is very close to the name of the master vampire (Valek) in John Carpenter's Vampires?
Now you HAVE to review The Nun, when it comes out on DVD.
27:57
Wouldn't they have recorded the knives going into the table or the girl teleporting into the kitchen from that angle?
Loved the Bottom reference dude haha! Killed it
Wing fundamental, heavy arms and a unicorn . Nice arrange of kits .
sinanju ver. ka, sazabi ver. ka, deathscythe, shenlong, sandrock, talgeese, epyon, are all there as well
All of your reviews are absolutely hilarious you have the exact sense of humour as me and think exactly the same thank you for doing these reviews
I just want to see a movie, where a person tries to use a Ouija board to contact a ghost, and the other person says "That´s not what you use to talk to ghosts you idiot." And when the person asks "Well then what do you suggest huh?" With a smug face, and then the other person just pulls a gun and shoots them in the head and says "This." And laughs like they just heard a really good joke. Pleaaase just once
God, even as a kid, I felt the upside-down cross thing was just stupid. So it was no surprise that when watching _Conjuring 2_'s trailer, when I saw the crosses turn upside-down, I simply rolled my eyes.
Love the show!! Learned alot from this one!!
U ever thought of doing the conjuring universe films
Honestly, I think you're discrediting yourself by repeating the "opinion not facts" bit. Because for the most part, you've backed up all your opinions in the video with verifiable facts.
All I'm really saying is that you make many good points, and you should acknowledge your views' validity. You certainly educated me.
It's more cover my arse because someone did read the script before hand and told me "this might be seen as defamation"
Deusdaecon Reviews Ah, fair enough. (They do kinda seem like pricks who would sue over something like that.)
My thoughts exactly
Opinions and facts are two different things, and a VALID opinion is still an OPINION
Always good videos.
Just to add to what the daecon said, St Peter didn't believe that he was worthy enough to die in the same way as Christ, which is why his cross was turned upside down. It is in fact a symbol of humbleness as well as devotion to Jesus: the OPPOSITE of how it's usually depicted in media.
Great presentation. Love your satire as well.
I love your vids dude keep it up
6:39 I would now absolutely love to see you review the Transformers movies. I love your take on movies.
when the ghost screams my house, it just makes me think of joe from friends going 'JOE DOESN'T SHARE FOOD!!!" lmao
Love the glances to the side camera. Comedy gold 👍
I have been a big geek about the Enfield haunting since childhood (I'm now almost 40) and this movie really pissed me off with all the extra bulshit added to the story.
Nice to hear it from you, it pains me just as much
🖤👻💀🔪🖤👻💀🔪🖤
So I literally just came across your channel like 2 days ago, your 13 Ghost review was the very first video of yours that i watched & i instantly became interested in your channel! I'm really glad that I stumbled upon your channel bcus I've been binge-watching the hell outta all of your movie review videos for the last 2 days! I really enjoy these videos & you've definitely got yourself a new subscriber! 👍🏻👏🏻
🖤👻💀🔪🖤👻💀🔪🖤
Now he does
Very funny and enlightening review. Great work! I would like to point out: I was always taught that saying a demon's name will summon it or give it power, not make it go away. Something else in this movie that makes no sense.
it's not just on the bookcase that Valak is spelt out its on one of the bracelets that the daughter was making at the table
I thought Amityville and its inceasingly silly sequels broke its back and ground its spine into a fine powder. This one just turned the rest into a fine paste. :p
26:00 well, comrade, i've heard before that some people see the world as they see or are themselves, so, if the "protagonists" see everyone else as greedy jerks, guess what, they are as well, just have a hollier than thou attitude.
Love the Adrian Edmondson nod. Well done. Love that Ferris wheel episode
Did the first The Conjuring do well so you didn't need to review it? Or is it uploaded somewhere? Also what about doing the Alien franchise?
I'll do the first conjuring at some point but the second pissed me off too much to ignore, sometimes I just need to drop everything and focus on a film to tear into, and naturally the alien franchises is on the books eventually.
I only just watched it this week and thought I liked it, but watching your review it appears I missed many "scare moments" which I take it to mean I was actually bored of the movie and zoned out. Have you seen The Enfield Haunting with Timothy Spall? If so what did you think of that?
The Enfield Haunting was a much more accurate and rational depiction of the events, and of course the warrens never show up there, just how I like it.
Yeah I liked that version too, much more to my liking.
Love the "don't wanna get into the sh*t on this one". Best episode of Bottom.... Well, except for s'holy.... Gold frankenstein and grrr
Tucker & Dale.
House 1,2.
Return of the living dead 1,2,3.
♡♡♡
Everytime I see and hear the little British Comedy references it makes me day, from the Boosh to Bottom and all in between :) Your points about the family is really important its a shame they continued this insult for Conjuring 3
I love ur reviews!!!
Just out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on the first Conjuring movie?
Could you look into the other conjuring movies?
The interview that ed did, if I remember correctly this is quite in charachter for him. He was quite the bully and used anger and bluster to avoid answering questions he didn't like.
I actually didn't know about those production issues. Between those and James Wan originally not wanting to direct the sequel, it makes me wonder how much any of the people behind it really cared.
A Silent Hill swing? Heh, want a coincidence. ;)
So, once again they connected the two cases in odd ways, just like the first film did. Either they're really big fans of Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, or someone is trying to force a cinematic universe with continuity and shit.
So does that thing about filmmakers needing to stop using the Ouija board apply to Mike Flanagan as well? :P
My dad said the same thing about the Valak demon! Lmfao. He goes oh shit I didn't know Marilyn Manson was in this movie. Lmfao. He coulda been good as that demon. Like a little extra creepy aspect to the Valak demon.
Excellent review as always!
Could you maybe do one of the 1990 film, "The Guardian"? The one with the evil nanny who is actually a hamadryad that sacrifices babies to a tree to prolong her immortal life?
I find is interesting that although I've seen the movie at least twice, watched this review multiple times and various similar reviews/discussions from other channels in addition to having a pretty good working knowledge of the Endfield haunting the movie is based around, I still dont really understand the intricacies of the plot, it seems to have so much going on and so many ghost/demons and I've no clear idea as to the relevance of most of them. With the exception of "Bill Willkins" the supposed spirit haunting the Endfield house, everything else just feels tacked on and convoluted. It really doesn't need the addition of the bloody nun, a vague recreation of Amityville and the f@#king ludicrous crooked man. I could include the Warrens in that list as yet another complicating factor!
The nun exist purely because of the franchise, for spin-offs and sequels its literally that cynical, and the crooked man exist because they're incapable of making a decent horror story without a big oogidy boogidy monster to chase people.
YES!!! Turned cross is saint peter cross and it is holy. in this channel I found one and only man who speaks trues.
Just wanted to say thank you for the brilliant reviews. I can see that you put actual thought and research into your reviews as oppose to some of the other critics out there who try to review everything under the sun with no real value behind their words. I really enjoyed the conjuring 1 and 2 but your reviews did show the hollywood bullshit side that had me fooled. Keep up the good work, looking to donate soon!
This channel is the underdog of RUclips movie reviews; debunking the bullshit and praising what’s good
The letter beads on the bracelet the girl is making also appear to say VALAK
Love the reviews that you do. you should check out this movie called Ghost of Mars staring Ice Cube
the "My house!" line is hilarious
Dumb question, but is Guylyon Playfair's name French (or is he French)? Anyone know :)?
guy lyon playfair is British but was born in India.
Does anyone else notice the valak on one of the bracelets that the Warren's daughter made
I hear the name Valak appears a lot in the background of this movie
Have u ever seen the made for TV movie? I think u might like it. it’s called the enfield hunting.
If its the one with timothy spall and matthew macfadyen then yes its far better and more accurate then this crap
Deusdaecon Reviews yes that's the one. Love your videos by the way!
Personally i loved this movie because i didn’t read into the real story. I’m thinking of doing that but as a film i found it to be great.
also it is believed that if u know a demonst name u have control over it an u can drive it out
depends on the demon and depends on the religion, in the case of lorraine here she's speaking from a catholic perspective which i believe doesn't say that, and Valac is from the lesser key of solomon which also doesn't say that.
true
So here's the thing I have to say the reason I like this film is simply because I enjoy it for being a supernatural paranormal film regardless of whether or not the events are accurate to the real case or not. I mean the crooked man character alone is a good example of that. Is that a good reason to enjoy a movie like this
I'm sorry I know this is something that's personal to you but I don't think this film is as bad as you say it is. This is also just my opinion and please understand I'm not saying this just to piss you off. I'm sure you take this very seriously and I admire you for sticking up for the original case. I'm just saying I enjoyed this movie as a fun scary movie.
I would say you cant say "this is just my opinion" while also claiming that my opinion is wrong and saying its not a bad film, either opinions matter or they dont here, you can like this film all you want it really doesnt matter to me, im not here to change minds im here to explain why i believe this film (and all the conjuring films) makes heroes out of actual evil disgusting charlatans.
@@deusdeaconReviews Honestly I don't know what to say anymore. I just keep saying the wrong thing which gives you the wrong idea. I would like to apologize and say if you hate this movie that's fine and you definitely give a good reason for it. I'm just grateful movies like this exist where I can actually be scared unlike the other stupid horror shit we get today like the bye bye man and the slender man movie.
What gets under my skin with these movies is how people who don't know the facts (or refuse to learn them) mistaken what's on screen with what actually happened. My coworker believes at least 95% of this movie happened and 100% of what the Warrens say happened truly happened. In her words, "The nun and the Crooked Man weren't there, but everything else is true!" She actually got very angry at me about this. 😬
would you ever think of reviewing rosemarys baby?
Is it bad that I enjoyed this as a movie and didn’t care one iota as to validity or how true it is?
not at all, cause thats not the point
Deusdaecon Reviews Understood. Appreciate the reply.
I've watched the true original videos/ story on this movie. The main girl (whom was supposedly possessed) shows in her actions that her story was fake.
Opinions, not facts? You're doing better than the media these days. At least you admit it. I won't give you any shit. I enjoy your videos. This movie scared the hell out of me.
Loved the film, tbh! :)
Do you plan on reviewing Hush and Ouija: Origin of Evil?
Florence Lupin I thought that film would be a comedy based on the beginning of the trailer, probably would have been better as one.
Florence Lupin I've heard people say good things about Origin of Evil, saying it's better than the first one. It's even directed by Mike Flannigan, who directed Oculus.
+Troin I actually saw Origin of Evil around the time it came out, same with Oculus. Needless to say, Oculus was the "first" R-rated movie I've seen in theaters, and I wasn't at all disappointed. In fact, it's still one of my favorite horror movies as of now. I also saw Hush and thought that was just as good.
And when I heard this was coming in theaters, I did actually have some skepticisms because of how the trailers were edited, so I went in with very low expectations, as I always do with any movie. And I actually thought it wasn't half bad.
All in all, I freaking love Mike Flannigan now and I hope that his adaptation of Gerald's Game is gonna be good, since it's also gonna come out on Netflix and all. I wanted to read the book, but I lost it in high school lol, so, instead, I'll prepare by listening to an audiobook. Really excited to see what's next from him.
Even though I'm already following due to those cracking Hellraiser reviews, I wish I could follow again for that Bottom reference right at the start!
have you done the first film, or was it lost in the great Blip purge of 2015?
no i haven't looked at the first film, i wanted to get to this one ASAP.
Please do it at some point, though! :)
Enjoy your reviews. Have you ever considered doing the Saw movies, and/or the Hostel movies?
I sense a hint of disdain to the situation and/or people depicted in the movie.
But i may be wrong.
naaaaaaaah
What are your thoughts on The Boy and Split?
I have not seen either.
Deusdaecon Reviews You'll be surprised if you do get the chance. Keep up the good work. Loved what you had to say about the Dark Castle Entertainment films.
how long have you had that tat on your hand?
about a month and a bit
DEUS, was “I don’t wanna get on the shit on this one” a quote from “Bottom” ??? 😂
of course "when in doubt quote bottom" is a very useful motto to live by.
Deusdaecon Reviews omg dude ... Best Motto ever 😂😂
You gonna call out inaccuracies in the 3rd movie
I’d prefer to do a video all about how shit the warrens were rather then address the glorified ego fluffing film
@@deusdeaconReviews if you could I wouldn't mind that all
@@deusdeaconReviews I would enjoy seeing that.
14:45 Are you kidding me?! The Ghostly Trio could pull off a better scare!
True.
I am a Christian, and you obviously have little use for such things, so it may interest you to know that I COMPLETELY AGREE with your observations about this movie and the Warrens. I find it insulting to the furthest degree.
hes saying the difference general beleif and people being fooled
We have, we still believe in Jesus and always will. Way, truth and the life for all who believe.
Word.
Ade and rik, what a duo
I'm kinda happy some one else is as pissed off with this movie as I am . I have had an interest in this haunting from a young age and this film is the biggest pile of Bull shit I have ever had the misfortune to see. It's bloody offencive to all the real people involved in the real investigation.
What _was_ your opinion of the first film anyway?
Well without going into my distaste for the Warrens, It was standard spooky fare that turned into a ridiculous exorcist rip-off by the end.
Deusdaecon Reviews i honestly don’t see the exorcism rip-off thing.
I haven’t watched the conjuring a while, but as far as i remember the ending had people running around the house to stop the mother from killing the kid, and the exorcism... well, was an exorcism.
I guess the floating chair is a pretty big innuendo to the exorcist, but apart from that i don’t see how it’s a rip-off.
by the way why did you not review the first conjuring
Cause I didn't see the need to review that film when all i want to do was talk about this film, If it had anything kind of plot significance i would have but seeing as there separate stories it wasn't necessary.
Deusdaecon Reviews ok thanks
Opinion on jeffery Dean Morgan as Negan?
errrr and the winner of the most random comment goes to.....But i guess he was fine, personally all i could see was the comedian with a baseball bat though.
Deusdaecon Reviews Does that make Rick the smartest guy on the cinder?
