  • The Fjallraven Skogso jacket is a stylish outdoor classic. Well made, with the rugged G1000 fabric.
    Its a warmer weather walking or bushcraft jacket made from the durable G1000 fabric range. Lots of zipped pockets give it the ability to carry plenty of additional kit in a safe manner.
    Its great tailoring give it a comfortable fit, which is a hallmark of Fjallraven construction.
    Its not waterproof but surprisingly water resistant and can be added over a Paramo Enduro Fleece to make a serviceable light water proof- a review of the fleece can be found here-
    • Paramo Enduro Fleece R...
    It makes it a versatile combination and a really hill friendly combination.
    The trousers are the Abisco trousers by Fjallraven, our review of which can be found here-

    Super happy I came across this video! I purchased this exact jacket in green for an upcoming trip to Scandinavia this Fall and wanted something that would hold up well in Spring, Summer, and early Fall and it makes me super happy that you called it out for exactly that. I've also been having a super hard time finding pictures of the internal pockets online, so super appreciative that you featured those as well. Thanks for the great video!

      Hi Marc, glad you found the review helpful ☺️ it’s an interesting jacket and fairly unique in the mainstream outdoor producers 🤔 I mainly use mine for forest/Bushcraft uses- I will try and do a follow-up review some point 👍🏻 enjoy your trip and have a good one 🏕️🌲🏔️ Andy 🌀

    Do you think this jacket works well during the autumn or will it be to cold? I live on the swedish west coast so its not that cold usually.. Really nice video mate! :)

      That’s a bit of a piece of string question! G1000 is fairly versatile,
      so you can add more wax to increase water repellence and wind resistance, (at
      the cost of breathability). I pair mine in autumn with a Taiga fleece by
      Paramo. This provides an excellent bushcraft, late autumn walking combo. It
      also depends on what you are doing, high energy tasks it will suit on its own. It’s
      not a wet day jacket though, its one for the dryer days. Hope this helps, enjoy
      your outdoors time ;)

    (I bought the Skogso Padded jacket last year and Im very happy with it. Its very warm, to warm for trekking maybe cause it feels like a sleeping bag. The 8 pockets are really great! Im thinking of buying the nonpadded version for spring, summer and autumn. Cheers!)
    Correction: the zipper of the jacket failed two years ago... That shouldn't happen on a 400 euro jacket. Imagine you trust that thing in winter on a hike, an expedition... that could mean your death.
    My trust in Fjällraven is broken, as on my two pants the pockets failed as well. Fjällraven HAS BEEN a great brand in the past, but now it suits only to city fashionistas. 😡😡😡

    • @Rashard_D

      How has your Skogso (padded) held up now 2023. Any zipper issues or weatherproof issues?
      Also did you get the Skogso (nonpadded)?
      I’m thinking of getting one or the other, I’m just wanting the most durable cause I’m rough with abrasions and water resistance

      Hello.
      Indeed the zipper of the padded Skogso broke two years ago. That's rather disapointing for a Jacket of that price range and that brand. I also have the non padded Skogso, the zipper is still ok (🤞) but its not waterproof. I put two layers of wax on it but that didnt help. I must unfortunately say that I'm disapointed about Fjällraven, the quality is far from what it was in the past and I won't buy their products anymore.

      I appreciate your openness.
      I certainly don’t want to invest so much money for a higher risk.
      I might take a chance on the non padded Skogso since 30% off for holiday deals.

      30% of is a good deal. And you can add a warm layer for cold seasons. The non padded can be used all year long while the padded one is only for cold weather, themperatures under 10 degres Celsius.
      Have fun with your new purchase. 👍

    Had a fail with this jacket yesterday , minor but still very surprised. I was out with mh son in the local woods making dens as you do.. when I adjusted the hood elastic sinch. The elastic became became detached inside and popped out rendering the jacket hood non adjustable ,gutted. I emailed Fjallraven to let them know but its easy to make repairs with g1000 so fixed it myself with needle and thread. Still came as a surprise mjnd mind you! Hows yours holding up, do you wax at all?

    • @WildcraftBritain
      @WildcraftBritain  7 лет назад

      I use mine primarily for bushcraft, with the occasional walk thrown in. The polycotton is great for fire retardancy and has proven durable in the face of thawns etc. (which my usual Paramo would not do so well with). One of the zip tabs has fallen off, and thats it tbh, and I've had it a while now, (but its not in constant use). Elastics are only so strong, especially given the relatively inflexible nature of the fabric- it will be interesting to hear what Fjallraven come back with- how long have you had the jacket and how much use does it get?
      I don't wax mine with G1000, its such a faff on, I use Nikwax Cotton-Proof, which I find gives a good water replant finish without the fuss, (I also only wash in Tech Wash). I use this on all my G1000, (and I own 5 pairs of trousers and two shirts on top of two jackets!). ]
      So far, it has works about in line with expectation, its not indestructible, but has lasted in line with the materials used. I have hammered one pair of Abisco trousers, they are pretty much all I climb outside in, and I am very impressed with their durability.

      Draw at the hem, not the waist. Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy. ps if you get any G1000 made stuff I've had great results with Nikwax cotton proof- saves a lot of messing with the wax and is still enviro friendly ;) Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy

    • @WildcraftBritain
      @WildcraftBritain  10 лет назад +1

      Its not waterproof but water resistant. It depends on how much wax you apply, to how water resistant it is, but the more the wax the less the breathability. In addition, it dries much quicker than other polycottons I have owned. Its durability is one of its key attributes. Glen Coe and Glen Etive are amazing places, well worth a visit! The Scottish Highlands are amazing full stop, but can demand some hill knowhow to remain safe in ;)

    how can you properly clean it?

    • @WildcraftBritain
      @WildcraftBritain  5 лет назад

      You can machine wash. However, you will remove some of the wax coating when you do. They recommend Nikwax tech wash, which will remove the least wax and not leave a water attracting residue like most detergents will. However, it is a mild cleaner and if you needed a deep clean then you would detergent wash then Nikwax Tech wash to remove any detergent residue, but that would pretty much strip all the wax off. Then you would need to re-apply it. However, I use Nikwax cotton proof on most of my Fjallraven garments, and it acts similar to a single layer of wax and is easy to do. Hope this helps, Enjoy your outdoors time, Andy
