After Roger Federer will retire, ATP and ITF should make public ALL the matches of his career in their entirety, at the best possible quality. This man's career deserves to be watched, studied and enjoyed by everyone on this planet. All of his matches should be considered a world common treasure and made available like on a public library.

Roger Federer IS tennis. He loves the sport, he's the most talented player ever (arguably), and the most famous player ever. His records will be broken, which is part of the evolution of sports, but he will forever be the most iconic player. So glad I had the pleasure to grow up watching him grace the courts.

“ *Grand Slam tennis is not a popularity contest.* Being that guy everyone loves, the one everyone wants to win, does not get you the ‘W’. And that’s what it’s all about
That comes from supreme talent, multiplied by hard work, times infinity. Hard work on every little thing - game, body, diet, mind. The complete package. *It’s not a popularity contest.*
*They might think you’re cold, clinical, boring. Hey, they might think you’re a brat. It doesn’t mean a thing.* Because what they will give you every time you step onto court - is respect.
When your time is up, are you judged by the amount of followers you have? Are you judged by how many fans have your shirts and scream your name?
Get out of here. *You’re judged by what you’ve done in the game.* And you know what, in time - they might even come to like you.”

I was 9 years in 2001 and I had grown up watching Pistol Pete until then. Super attacking, offensive tennis. I knew sometime around 2000 when Pete got beaten by Safin in the US Open final in 2000 that it was time for tennis to find a new hero and in the following months I was searching, searching for that excitement that Pete once brought in me when watching tennis. Nobody. But there was Safin, Hewitt, Ferrero, Moya - all baseline counter punchers with none of the elegance and positive attacking intent of players like Pete or Edberg. Then came the quarterfinal of Wimbledon 2001 and as usual I geared up to cheer my man Pete Sampras. I honestly hadn't heard of a certain Roger Federer until then. But here was a 19 year old kid who juggled the ball between his legs while walking and he didn't once miss the juggle. And his arrogance, that's what it looked to me at first, was such that he was twirling the racket in his hand while receiving serves from Pete!!!! Who does he think he is? Then I saw something special. This kid matched Sampas ace for ace, served and volleyed as well as Pete did that day. Never once did he appear uncomfortable on his backhand. Pete's backhand had become an apparent weakness during his twilight years. The kid's forehand was also a weapon. And the best of all, this kid appeared to be floating while moving on the Wimbledon Center court. I had never seen footwork like that before. I knew that when the match was over I had found my heir apparent to Pete and 20 years and 20 GS's later I still know that I had witnessed the coming of age of the best player that I had ever seen. You made the game beautiful for me otherwise I would have probably given up on tennis. Thank you Roger.

Everyone had to improve and work harder to beat him. And, in fact, I respect all three of them, in order of appearance, Fed, Rafa and Nole as GOATs. • @micha8469
      @micha8469 3 года назад +7

What do you mean didn't let you?! He put a gun against your head or something? Everyone is taught two-handed backhand at first, it's way easier, good for beginners when it's crucial to hit shots within the court and avoid mistakes. It's also pretty good to learn two-handed even if you switch to one-handed some time later because some balls, fast ones that you hit in full run, are sometimes better to be returned with two-handed. Other than this if you feel like you wanna learn one-handed, go for it, coach is just a guy you pay to give you suggestions and help you improve. Remember that you hire him, not the other way. I've switched kinda naturally to one-handed which wasn't my coach idea, either. I tried to hit easier balls with one-handed at first, I watched YT tutorials, then my coach started to give me some advice in that regard and later he stopped telling me to use two-handed completely so now I use two-handed for difficult balls since I am still far from good with one-handed but overall I feel way more natural with one-handed which might be the result of playing table tennis for years as a kid where one-handed backhand is the only one you have. To sum up, play for your pleasure, one-handed is hella difficult to master but if that's what you feel you should do, you do it now.

    Why I love Roger Federer
Tennis: it's not about records or numbers of titles, but the style of play unique
personality: he is so gentlemanly, smart, and has a sense of humor.
Style: he is so elegant, either on or off the court
    simply so charismatic.

Roger may not be the greatest fighter like Rafa, not a tennis robot like Novak, but he represents pure tennis and the beauty of this sport. that's why he's the greatest tennis player of all time.

Without doubt, Federer is the most talented, beautiful, vesatile player ever to play tennis. Variety of shots he has, is far more than combined of Nadal or Novak. His volley , stop volley, backend, forehand and dropshots are very pleasing to watch. To play for 20 over yrs with very high consistency is simply amazing. And above all, he is very humble, down to earth always easy going with his fans and media. We hardly read or hear ppl say bad things abt him. It is astonoshing to know that he has never retired half way in 1250 matches he has played. This shows how much he loves Tennis.. No other player has this effect on public past 50 yrs plus. No wonder he gets so much love, respect and attention from Reporters, players and public.. Even if Novak wins 25 Slams, he can never match talent, skill, charishma, elegance and popularity of Federer. Last but not the least, behavior on the court where RF gets 9.9 out of 10 and Novak may be 4....Novaks behaviour in tokyo olympics last wk is totally disgrace and unacceptable. He shd banned for few months. 👌🏻👌🏻.

*Tennis will never ever be a jurysport like iceskating, gymnastics or a popularity contest.* People who claim otherwise are really trying to troll but don't realize that it makes them look well how to say it politely... "not so smart".
In 10, 20, 30 years, when the allure of the flash-in-the-pan that is Federer's game fades from memory and withers, it's the legendary records that Djokovic carved out, in glorious granite, that will stand the test of time. #perpetual
*You're actually admitting that Djokovic is greater because you admitted that Djokovic has better achievements, so he is the more accomplished player* , but Federer has more grace. So now we can all agree that Djokovic is the best at playing tennis. Federer can play tennis at billionaires' cocktail parties to entertain them. Works for me.

*To determine who really is the GOAT, simply look objectively at all the major records, stats and facts, using rational thinking and logical reasoning*
Keep please the wishful thinking, delusional dreaming and misguided emotions out of the discussion. 🙄

The reason Roger is one of the 'greats' was driven home to me during the Olympic tennis tournament. Novak's behavior was an international embarrassment - one racquet thrown into the stands, another destroyed against the net post, and in Japan. How culturally insensitive.
When Roger and Rafa retire it will be a sad day. When Novak retires, I'll just think to myself, "see ya!"
