    You can make that pattern without eyeballing and applying modifiers. First, add an array with relative offset of 1 on appropriate axis. Add another array with constant offset of sqrt (3) * radius / 2 on one axis and 1.5 radius on another axis. Then add the last array with constant offset of radius * 3 on appropriate axis.
