    This has to be one of my favorite cars of all time. It is so unique and just a blend of art and machine and screams the 70's. Great fun video.

    Regarding the side mirrors - the passenger side mirror was an option that doesn't appear to have been offered in the US / North America but definitely have been spotted on the assembly line for 914s heading for European countries (minus the round side marker "warts" as well!). Although the passenger door does have the mounting bolts for a side mirror welded on the door should you wish to add one, you just have to drill out the holes in the door. The factory side mirror can be used on either side, you just have to twist the base around. My OCD might compel me to enlarge the hole for the existing clock and replace it with the slightly larger factory 914 clock option. You have the factory 914 volt meter so why not match the size with your clock! All the best.

    The centre console I think is after market. I have seen a few retrofits like this before. This was one of the best cars from the 70's and great to see it still being enjoyed. Great video and love the drone shots.

    Point of clarification on the round side markers - These were an add-on to meet US regulations. Euro cars split the front marker light into two sections - a small section at the bottom for the marker light, the rest above for the turn signal. The split can be seen in the Hella lens. The wheels on this car are the highly desired Fuchs forged alloys available with the appearance group. The 914 never came with a hood badge, those there are reports that they were added at the dealership. The center console is not factory as stated but was one of the 3rd party add-ons available. A beautiful car - thank you for sharing!

      @@ClassicCarChitChat There are cars that are much more expensive and more technological. I love for people to see what a car was like in 1975, so I keep mine close to original as possible. It always amazes people to see the simplistic beauty of a car that in my opinion was so under appreciated.

My intention for the videos is to allow ´ordinary people’ like you and I who love cars an opportunity to speak about their love of their car and why that car means so much to them. Anyone saying the 914 is NARP hasn't got a clue. Just remind them ignoramuses of Le Mans 1970, that should shut 'em up. The wee 914 showed up and went on to win its class, finishing 6th overall, only beaten by the "almighty" Porsche 917 and Ferrari 512S (and there's really no shame in that), ahead of a bunch of Porsche 911 and a Ferrari 312. 😉

    Beautifully unique VW sportcar. there would be no Porsche if not for Ferry's VW...this is a WOLKSWAGEN(!), built for the boxer-4cyl.
    The front end trearment, though, does owe e(n)ough to Rickman's Elan+2 of '67 but, admittedly, better executed...especially with headlamps active.
    well presented vid Mike(oopsy)Kevin) 👍...and you nailed the specifics David❤. and especialy when saying that there's really not much indepth history/tech-analyses to be found on this car.....if you Dave, or some other entusiasts here could help me out with just one pressing question?....upon which VW platform was the 914 built around?...was it a continuation of the Type-34's Type-3 floorpan?...or perhaps some other Porsche model?
    my fave VW's, with a couple sometimes altering in order of preference, yet all still ranking very high on my general all time list;
    ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    5th) 1968-1974 Type-4 (411/412)...and must be the the 4door sedan, VW's 1st...plus Brooks did a magnificent front restyle on the rare 412)
    4th) 1962 Type-3 Knotchback fixedtop.
    3rd) 1950 -2002 Type-2...(T1 bus 1st, T3 vanagon (westfalia) 2nd, T2 baywindow 3dr crewcab 3rd).
    2nd) 1938-2003 Type-1...preferrably the original split window and /or of the oval rear window with flat windscreen)
    1st) 1955-1959 Type-14 (lowlight) 2+2 fixedtop...(would be my personal choice if must c(h)oose betwee(n) it and this 914/4).
    .
    PS...(love and would include the '62 Type-34 but personally, and from an ethics point for originality, must bestow that honor onto the original Corvair).
