in a very basic way I think he has something prerecorded, a kind of track; he then modulates the song with analog equipment he has ; it's possible that the rows of knobs are dedicated to each FX track. So he has a lot of ways to change each effect and then on top he has a lot of different effects plus the prerecorded basic track that is being modulated along the way. I am not sure if this is the case though; I think that some trance music producers especially in 90s really blended synthesizers, modulators, and live instruments in a nice way showing a different sort of mastery; what O'Rourke is doing here sounds really interesting, although a different audience would demand something with a more concrete punch aided by live instruments. Although this is somewhat more harmonious than his other performance I heard, delivered in 2021, it has this vibe like Harrison's "Electronic Sound" , his experiments with Moog, not exactly a piece revered by a lot of people. It would really be interesting to see whether the future will bring popular groups that combine, live music, the potential of instruments and live jamming with other people, plus the modulation capacities provided by digital and analog equipment. There were and are many groups that do this but none had reached the deserved level of popularity
@@patpagano I don't know what he's using here; either it's hard to see what he's getting at because of the way this sounds, or he really just kind of randomly twists the knobs and listens to what happens; quite similar to Harrison's Moog experiments. It's nice to see a large crowd listening to experimental music; it's just that I think there's much more to this sort of gig, simpler stuff too that are very impactful.
there's Rob Hordijks Blippoobox on the table and one can hear it rather faintly on the background. I know he uses a Kyma Sound Design Environment but not sure if that is the one his controlling with the faderfox or something else.
Different strokes for different folks! Some of us are interested in alternative methods of sound creation by artists, outside of the conventional rock n roll set-up. Listening doesn't have to be visually entertaining.
I quite enjoyed it, each to their own. Feels like he’s doing a bit of improv with electronic sounds. Not always my thing but I appreciate that he’s focused and playing the midi like an instrument, something nice about sounds evolving as they happen.

Still pushing boundaries after all these years... what a guy!
You mean pushing buttons?
What boundaries ?

Lovely!
i love japan in that you can safely perform on stage still with a laptop, without fear of getting gear-snob-douche-bag’d

looks like he's tweaking a max patch with a midi controller, i don't listen to ambient like that

@@svetozarkuzman2924 I believe he is using a faderfox PC12 midi controller/mixer to change parameters and EFX. Cool stuff

People should be lying down looking at the sky or some tree.. instead of the artist. Is whole purpose of ambient music and sound.
I think Japanese people are interested by his looks and non-Japanese features. In such a homogenous country this guy really stands out, look-wise.
midiコン?シーケンサー?気になる

多分FaderfoxのPC12だと思います!

he makes sounds with Kyma (85%) + modular (15%) and he performs live using Bitwig

haha! shocking how much the japanese know about jim o'rourke and john fahey. Seemingly even more so than most of us americans. Good for you guys. :)

I discovered John Fahey about 10 years ago through RUclips. Without RUclips, I may have discovered him much later, or never.
If you’re into it, fair enough.
Definitely with it.
He looks like a mad scientist who conducts strange experiments on a small remote island

So refreshing away from techno.
ambient performance is problematic and this is an example. 100 people watching a guy play a max patch in 2024.
What would you have liked to see?

What’s the problem - you listen and enjoy or walk away. It’s a sensual experience not an intellectual one.

こんなん5分見たら飽きる。ほとんどの人が自分の気持ちを誤魔化して立ち続けてると思う笑
This is trash.
at least someone has the guts to say it. The days of intently twiddling your knobs over your spectral delay glitch sampling max patch is 2010.
