Hey Marcus, just wanted to thank you for what you do and your channel. You inspired me to switch from consul to PC. I built my first pc this Christmas and it was very fun and exciting. I love being apart of the pc community now and am great full for your channels material. Keep up the good work, I’m always checking in on you for news and tips and tricks!
I got a sky tech gaming pc a month ago and I friggin love it! Shadow 3.0 came with Ryzen 5 3600 and RTX 3060ti. Out the box all I did was enable D.O.C.P. in the bios for the RAM to actually run at 3000 and I get 130-150 avg frames on Warzone! With nvidia game filters and ray tracing enable, which both actually hurt frames a bit but I only have a 144hz monitor so it doesn’t matter. It was like 1400.00 but I think the price went up a little. They also have same pc with Radeon GC too!!!
I’m waiting until Christmas but if I find a graphics card I’m stealing it. These videos are probably what I’ll be watching while building my pc, as they are easy to follow and aren’t super complex.
I finally managed to get my hands on a 3070 at msrp - going to build a brand new PC since my current one is 5 years old! Thanks for all the useful videos, I've been adding them to a playlist so I'll know what I'm doing when it comes to build time!
Great tips! I'd add to the "read the manual" part: Sometimes those manual illustrations are generic or poorly drawn. Take your time, you might have to "interpret" those drawings. I've built loads of pc's, but yesterday, while swapping in a new cpu cooler, I experienced this. The cooler mounting bracket drawing looked very little like the actual, oddly shaped brackets, so they weren't clear about orientation when mounted to cooler. The brackets also had sliding mount screw slots to adjust spacing for different generation boards. The drawings didn't show which direction to mount the brackets to cooler, so I had to flip them around, and adjust the sliding screws, until they finally lined up with the mounting plate holes. No biggie, just some fiddling, but the drawings were semi-useless.
Thanks for the video. I put my first PC together last fall and while it mostly went together without a hitch, it would have been nice if I had found a nice compact, up to date video like this prior to getting started. I have however, been bitten by the bug and I've already began tinkering with my build and thinking of other upgrades I can do.
These videos kill me. I love this dude, hes so upbeat and pleasant to listen to. But god damn if this frustrating in todays current market. We all want to build PCs or upgrade our cards. But we physically cant! This hobby really tests your patience. Part of the reason i havent bothered upgrading anything since 2016!
Good point on RTFM. It will tell you which RAM slots to use first for dual-channel, and it will show you where all the connector pins are on the mobo. If you're using a SATA M.2 SSD, it will also tell you which SATA port will get disabled.
The ti is a lot more powerful than the regular 3060. Its not even the same cut down die. Its a totally different die. 3060ti is a GA104 and is a cut down 3070. 3060 is a GA106 and is literally only 5-10% faster than the 2060 super.
My first build I didn't put in standoffs behind the motherboard. rip. My most recent build wouldn't boot from my old ssd, no matter what I did. It still won't. Had to get a new windows install on a different drive to get it going.
I also recommend a magnetic Precision Screwdriver Set as it has all the screwdriver bits you'll ever need including the small phillips head for those M.2 drives
You should verify where all of the motherboard standoffs are. If one is out of place you could be grounding part of the motherboard that shouldn't be grounded or if a standoff is missing, you may have to pull up the motherboard. Also, don't forget to turn on the rocker switch on the power supply. I can't tell you how many times I've contemplated harikari because of that damn switch! One last thing, remember to plug in your keyboard and mouse before you switch on the PC for the first time. For new users, a bonus tip: Don't drink more than one coffee or energy drink while building your PC.
Love the videos. My main struggle was with knowing what fan headers/power headers to use for my CPU cooler. As well as hooking up the case buttons. Got there in the end though. Still havent tuned my fans though. Software downloads arent working so I need to have a look in my MSI Bios.
