I remember watching this live. Apparently Gwen cried after backstage as she wasn't happy with their performance. Turn of the millenium was an exciting time!!!
Same here all my friends were over we watched this then went outside and smoked a couple cigars..... and hacked our asses off cause we were 15 - 17 years old lmfao
I’ll never forget this moment. Everyone thought y2k was going to end the world and she performs this right as the ball dropped 🎉❤ epic moment to experience! 🥰
I was 14 watching this Live. It was literally the coolest thing I ever seen, plus it was the energy of Y2K. The chaos, it was beautiful. I still remember the feeling.
I remember when I saw this live on MTV, I was at a house party and we were expecting Y2K things to happen (power-outage, the room to shake... something) but we got this instead. I remember this as being really bad, but I think it was from the let down of the electricity not going out.
I think gwen was too hard on herself about this performance. It’s a suuuuper fast, wordy song that they didn’t get a ton of time to rehearse. Plus she had her brand new braces in which makes anyone get lispy. AND she was going through a tumultuous time with gavin fucking around…it was A LOT! I think gwen and the boys managed to get out an above decent version of this song out
Her voice was still progressing in 2000. This here was still on that "No-Doubt" sound. Who would've of thought that Gwen would have lasted this long (2 decades and 7+ years)?
I wish i could find a lot of the "behind the scenes" documentaries MTV used to air in the 90s and 00s that focused on shows or annual programs like this I remember someone mentioning this performance in the New Year's Eve doc, emphasizing how difficult the song was and how much people cheered because she nailed it
she was given only a few days to learn the lyrics+later Gwen was upset because she understood she sucked a little bit :( im sure it'd be great performance if she was given more time to get to know the lyrics
I'm so confused right now. I remember watching this live on TV but I also remember being at a 311/RHCP concert that night too. Anyone remember what time they went on?
have you ever tried to learn the words to this? i've been working on it for 20 years and i still can't get them all. or i get tongue-tied and mess up so maybe chill out on gwen. she tried dude!
REM was better man? 7yrs later? REM was college rock that cared more about getting stoned than changing anything ever. I'm a GenXr, but the music industry has helped changed things dramatically compared to Michael Stipe sitting there complaining the whole time.
I remember watching this live. Apparently Gwen cried after backstage as she wasn't happy with their performance. Turn of the millenium was an exciting time!!!
She recently said it was because she had her new bracers in her mouth
i cried watching this . . . sloppy as phookay . . .
Same here all my friends were over we watched this then went outside and smoked a couple cigars..... and hacked our asses off cause we were 15 - 17 years old lmfao
@@Rino10493 No, she went into another verse instead of the chorus
who else came from the Gwen Stefani vogue interview ?
Me
✋🏻
ME, SOUNDS GOOD THO!

Me. She did fine!
I’ll never forget this moment. Everyone thought y2k was going to end the world and she performs this right as the ball dropped 🎉❤ epic moment to experience! 🥰
This gave me chills... this video is pop culture history. It was such a vibe and a moment.
Facts bestie
So many watching/listening to this on tv/radio at Y2K.
That's so weird to think, the first performance of the century...
Apropos
Lol I like how they had cue cards with the lyrics in the back! Happy New Year 2022!
Awwh Gwen was so upset that she messed up but I could not even tell and that was such a difficult song she did such a good job!
I was 14 watching this Live. It was literally the coolest thing I ever seen, plus it was the energy of Y2K. The chaos, it was beautiful. I still remember the feeling.
This was an EPIC way to begin 2000 with!!! Beautiful imperfections
I love the 2000s..... the style is like nothing else
I remember that night vividly. Awesome post, brings back that feeling of relief that the world didn't go all to shit.
Did it not?
It really did.
Especially the world of music...
sadly... this did not age well 😔
Martin Alexander uhhh I think the world of music is the least of our concern
I believe she had braces when she was singing this, and it's over 200 bpm. She did a damn fine job.
Watching this on December 31, 2019 at 10 pm. Almost the new decade of 2020. This performance is about to be 20 years old
20 friggin years ago
Then the world starts to end in 2020...
I remember when I saw this live on MTV, I was at a house party and we were expecting Y2K things to happen (power-outage, the room to shake... something) but we got this instead. I remember this as being really bad, but I think it was from the let down of the electricity not going out.
Welcome to a new decade! We wake up it's 2020 a new chapter in our lives begins! January 1st, 2020!
Remember this day 20 years ago on that day!
Are you from the future? Cause in this reality its still 2019...
Isadora Obsidian No there probably just on crack.
little did you know what 2020 would be like 😳
This did not age well 😂
Wow, I remember listening to this live on the radio on New Years night.
I think gwen was too hard on herself about this performance. It’s a suuuuper fast, wordy song that they didn’t get a ton of time to rehearse. This is a train wreck but this is a live performance and that can happen, I do love the energy.
I remember watching this when it aired. I was so excited! Even with the little mistake I remember thinking damn she's so cool!!
Old school teleprompter 💞 lmao happy new year
The teleprompter actually messed her up, she was supposed to sing the chorus again.
Cant believe this was almost 25 years ago....
Her voice was still progressing in 2000. This here was still on that "No-Doubt" sound. Who would've of thought that Gwen would have lasted this long (2 decades and 7+ years)?
Danny Gomes well she began in 1986 but yeah, she has such rich history and longevity
Love her and love this. I was 3 when this was on.
Lacey Noel Damn. I was 11!
I was 13 and remember watching my fav band no doubt!
And she made you a fan even then!
Where has time gone?! I remember watching this live. I miss No Doubt.
I know right, I remember y2k like it was yesterday. Lot simpler times for sure.
it’s crazy that she thought she didn’t do well here…they were AWESOME especially under that type of pressure they kicked a**!!!!!!
Epic! I still remember watching this live.
I was in time square for the millennium. that was an amazing time
this really set the tone for the 21st century huh
I wish i could find a lot of the "behind the scenes" documentaries MTV used to air in the 90s and 00s that focused on shows or annual programs like this
I remember someone mentioning this performance in the New Year's Eve doc, emphasizing how difficult the song was and how much people cheered because she nailed it
This performance inspired me to do the same song at Karaoke for New Year's, a few years later. It went over great.
I think Gwen did a good job.. but this must be a super challenging song. She didn't really have a moment to even breathe while singing it is so fast!
Gosh ... i watched this the night it aired ... can't wait fer No Doubt to release something new ...
I remember staying up to watch the ball drop and seeing this on tv.
A memorable NYE. Start of 2020 and coming back to hear this
I wish you could start 2020 with this because it's a new decade
Yeah that is not the only reason
Careful what u wish for.. now it is 2020 :0
Would’ve been a very fitting song for the time lol
I wish I was here for this.
I wasn't born yet
I was born in 2004 but I saw a presentation of this
I watched this as a 13 year old in my bedroom in Puerto Rico. ❤
Love this
I remember this! Lol
she was given only a few days to learn the lyrics+later Gwen was upset because she understood she sucked a little bit :( im sure it'd be great performance if she was given more time to get to know the lyrics
Happy new year (2020)
It's only 2019
Wooooooooooo
I remember being a kid watching this live
i came here because of her vouge interview and this was so good wth was she talking aboutt lol lovee them
"You just had to have been there"
-the 90s
.... Yup
i watched this live.
Was the real end of the world as we knew it
Poor Gwen struggled with this performance. Her braces were hurting her :( poor girl xoxo
i came from CNN 2000's show how about anyone else?????
I think we should get a do-over. We messed up the 2000s, take us back.
I'm so confused right now. I remember watching this live on TV but I also remember being at a 311/RHCP concert that night too. Anyone remember what time they went on?
Midnight EST
Welp the end of the world happened a year and nine months later (9/11)😔
Remembering it like yesterday. Almost like someone turned off the lights.
She kinda predicted what would have happened 20 years later 😆
Classic tragic kingdom no doubt era
Covid brings me here lol
*all these people are like 40 now*
happy new year (2017)
올해도 살아남았다
i miss this gwen.. can't stand her now
I was 1 year 9 months old when this aired
I was 3 year old 😅
20 years too early...
Also amazing that the world has only gone downhill since then. Really the end of the world 🙃 just dragged out
Gwen……😢
Putin 18 years pres of Russia, Tramp pres America nice joke I say 18 years ago.
And then 9/11, Afghanistan and Iraq Wars happened
Wait is the drummer naked

She couldn't even be bothered to learn the words?
seems like she sang a lot of them on point?
Kathryn Huck They had a screen with the lyrics on it?
Kitty Karma That was cue cards... and she sang it like a champ. Care to do better?
When do you think she didn't know the words?
have you ever tried to learn the words to this? i've been working on it for 20 years and i still can't get them all. or i get tongue-tied and mess up so maybe chill out on gwen. she tried dude!
garbage......R.E.M is stil better!!! shame on gwen:(
