Copywrite on a lot of these, sorry about that but it's out of my hands unfortunately.
Never did understand. Why wouldn't someone want to have their song featured in something like this? It's sort of advertising for their song. So stupid!
Fair enough 😊👍
@@jimimack7298 Totally agree. Very odd that they wouldn’t want their song featured.
You are right mate ,there's fuck all you can do about Gary glitter being on this hit list.
You have to laugh at these pricks. You play 10 seconds if that of their song and they get all shirty about it. You would have thought that they would provide a link to the full version as opposed to quieting your version. Great montage, love it.
Bugger it, I'm goin' back to the 70s , who's comin'?
+Bama McCoy I'm right behind you in my chocolate Capri xxxx 2.0 litre at that xxx
+rob the log I"ll take a ticket to go back then,, was a kid in the 70s,,!!
+gremlinuk1968 though I was 2 - 4 year old for most of them 70-72, but when I got abit older, I still rember most of the tracks,!!
+gremlinuk1968 sry should have sayed 70-on woulrds,,,
:)
I'm from the USA.I love Suzi Quatro, don't know why she never caught on here. Never understood the power of the Osmonds. Man, they ruled the charts in the UK, WHY??? Got to enjoy Slade in the 80's but never knew Quiet Riot covered their songs. Originals were better. Thanks for posting!
Amazing what a difference "being across the pond" makes. I'm known by my friends as the "go-to" guy when it comes to knowing the songs and artists from back in the day, and yet several of these songs I've never heard before. Thanks for the upload.
As an American, this was so much fun to watch! Some of these songs were also #1 in America, others were good songs but not nearly as popular here, and others I never heard even once! You might find it hard to believe Slade was a complete mystery to me, T-Rex had only one USA hit ("Get it on"), Gilbert O'Sullivan had a huge hit with "Alone Again (Naturally)" which didn't even hit #1 here (while the two #1's here barely made a dent in America) ... both the similarities & differences were fascinating! I can't wait to watch Part 2. Thanks so much for putting this together!
You missed the ball, what a shame. Big is not always better especially where live music is concerned. Watching a band play live from the other side of some gigantic arena is no fun. But a small intimate venue at unbelievable volume levels, well that's something to behold. 'Slade' live at the 'Lyceum Theater England' 1980 'Till Deaf Do Us Part' Tour. I came away from that gig soaking with sweat, with hardly any vocal ability after all the singing along and my ears rang on for at least 2 days........Best gig i ever went to.
Unfortunately there were a lot of novelty records over here.I don't think it was as bad on your side of the pond.Okay you had disco duck and the streak but we had too many throughout the seventies. I was only a very young child in the seventies but it seems to me the decade is more fondly remembered in your country than it is over here.We only had 3 TV channels-can u imagine that!!!
@@patrickeffiom97 The 70s? I've been watching all these videos and you guys never lost your love of novelty songs.😅
Halcyon day`s the best decade for music ever.
Ignore the stuff about Gary Glitter, yeah he's a pervy bastard but that has nothing to do with the music that sold millions in the 70's. My only criticism is that the clips aren't long enough.
Lucky to be part of that great decade
the 60s were great ,,the 70s were not far behind,lm so glad to be 55 lve seen the very best there is to see
1973.......slade, sweet and t.rex........that's all you need!!!!
1974 SPARKS: in January 'Kimono My House' including 'This town ain't big enough for the both of us', 'Amateur Hour', in November 'Propaganda' with 'Never Turn Your Back On Mother Earth', 'Something For The Girl With Everything'. The Mael brothers are still going strong. Still witty and a bit different from everything else. Only lasting love of my life 💖😂😂
Yessss!!!
Well, T.Rex anyway.
the sweet with 8 nr. 1 in germany !
When music was music.
Truth Teller I wish I had time travel to go back instead of putting up with today's so called music TRASH 👿👿
@@andrewmatthews6861 Wouldn't it be great? As for music I agree, most of today's so called music is just awful noise.
Having just watched this all the way through, (and yes, I do remember them,) it struck me that one of the main difference between then and now is the diversity of the music. We seem to have lost that somehwere along the way. Some great songs in there, but, some so-so ones too.
Boy, we really listened to some shit in the 70's!
Go and wash your ears and try again.
Absolutely the best music was in the 70s. I'm 60 years old now and I can remember every song. The 70s was the best days of my life.
+Archie Woodman If you were 6 years older (like me) you'd have voted for the 60's. 70's were great though.
+Sterling Fontaine
I think it's you that's the loser mate.
Be polite, it costs nothing.
+Sterling Fontaine
As i said, loser.
So can I, plus I can remember all the 60s number ones as well, which is also on RUclips.i'm a tad older than you though.
The 70's was good, but if you can remember the 60's, that decade is tops.
Shame about the loss of sound at several points
It was muted to not get sued for copy wright infringment
@@fannybuster shame never the less 🙄
@@fannybuster - That's probably the fear, but a tiny snippet should qualify as fair use as a "review" which is exactly what this video is.
I note the same thing hasn't happened to the other vids in the series - is it because comments were closed on them - so no names got a mention for people to find for blocking purposes?
Fanny Buster That’s some name!😂
I really like the 70s
Fantastic...truly fantastic and don't worry about the windgers who moan about Gary Glitters...its still a piece of history!!!!
This is what music was like back when I was alive. An amazing collection of songs, ranging from genius to complete and utter shite.

So glad to find this, great memories
Such eclectic music. Pop music is the everyday barometer of the psyche of a nation - and today we are depressed, cynical, childish and lost.
What a fantastic mix of songs! Takes me back to the 70s in the best way possible. Pop was King in the 70s!!
In the 70's even the crap was good.
William Heywood music stopped in 1979 😧😧
@@andrewmatthews6861 false
@@kostajovanovic3711 true!
I rate 1979 as one of the most interesting and creative years for popular music, with an incredible mish-mash of competing genres. Being post-punk and with new-fangled technology gaining ground it was a time of radical change, which wouldn't have pleased everybody.
Benny hill " ernie "
The first record I ever brought
I was 7 and I still have that record today
anybody here in 2019 ?
Terry White are there any hit records or are we all robots ? ha ha ha 😂😂😂😂
Terry White I don't think I will be around in 2038 but thank God people came to their senses and found good taste at last 😂😂
Wow this is great being from the US to see what hit #1 in the UK and what bands we shared!! Shocking no #1's by the Beatles from there Let It Be album. And none by 3 Dog Night!! I will watch the rest of the 70's!! Thanks!!
The early 70s were certainly ruled by T.REX!!
Yup and Bowie from late 60's
And Slade
So glad I was a youngster during this period.
I was older back then, go figure!
same as Neil
Yep. The only drawback is that you are now an oldster - but I make no excuses, so am I. Those were good times for us.
so as , born in 68 !!
Neil Jones Me too
slade ruled the 70s.....legends without a doubt.....they didn't get anywhere near the recognition they deserved. Noddys voice is the best ever in the history of british music.
I consider them co-regents with Marc Bolan.
Not counting the 50s & 60s the 70s 80s early 90s best years after that all down hill
70's teen here wallowing in memories.
Takes you back to your 1st car .. first girlfriend. Young and carefree. As you get older .. you always look back. Young people have dreams... old people have memories. Some good.. Some not so good.
I agree with you, the music was far much better in the 1970's, I remember all these songs, a lot of it was good in the 1980's too, from from the 90's it started to go rubbish, it's even worse now, I couldn't even tell you what is number one.
music that sold 100s of thousands of copies not the crap we get today that sells about two hundred copies just to be a hit
Totally agree with you.
are you an Oirish fellah then ?

what can I say they where the best years of music. T.rex.quatro.mud.sweet.slade. Even g glitter. To name a few coming up to 57 and still play them, trying to educate the neighbours. Ha ha .
If you were a bit older you would definitely say late fifties to early sixties. This is my favourite period. Check some of them out!
I'll take T.Rex you may keep the rest, ta.
the mighty Slade, 6 number ones, only British group to do it in the 70s,three of them straight to number one in 73.
Yeah great stomping songs.
@@sladeippie5841 Fook yah maan! \m/
The only problem is no one has replaced those songs with anything of merit, therefore their songs get played far too often, not that I am complaining...
Fun fact: after Merry Xmas Everybody did it at Christmas 1973,no single went straight in at number 1 until The Jam's Going Underground in March 1980!
am a 70s kid , born 23rd may 1968 !northern ireland , know most !!

Alvin Stardust.Lovely man sadly gone.RIP
a great setlist for "a year in the life of" a 70's child. regarding the negative comments,, they were bound fo happen, but the other thing that was also bound to happen was the amount of people who like the music for what it was, and their ability to separate it from all the bad stuff which went on. at the end of the day, music for music's sake,,, anyone wants to hate,,, go do it somewhere else, we aint interested. GREAT UPLOAD. THANKS.
Lee marvin a singer wow-
More of a talker than a singer really. That song featured in a film called "Paint Your Wagon," which also featured Clint Eastwood.
What a decade the 70's was i have some good memories of those years.
The lovely memory,s
70's, 80, 81, and 82- best times of my life. 83- head injury, almost died. Ever since life's been hard.
I wonder how may girls born in 1972 were named Claire?
Ok after getting a few messages saying Gary Glitter should be taken out of this list, i'm sorry you feel like that and i understand where you're coming from but at the end of the day he had number one hits in the UK and i can't help that. Again sorry if that offends anyone!
UK Music Charts no, he belongs in there. I u derstand what people are saying and why, but the music is still good admit it. It was part of my youth
Was a massive fan of Paul Gadd.. Aka Gary Glitter.. ;)
I couldn't agree more...sick to death of this cancel culture...for better or worse history is history as you say...if we deleted all that was bad from know historical figures we would erase 50% of civilization's history!
You can ignore him & appreciate the Chin & Chapman production - here's to double tracked drums!

T.rex and Slade!!! Nice.
After watching the excellent UK hits of the 60's video (especially parts 2 & 3), this is such a let down! So much vacuous glam, so much forgettable, so much Utah. . . .
bloody hell, that was a roller coaster of memories!
Hello Rose, How are you doing?
Each song I saw and heard have a special place in my heart. I was in my teens between 11 and 20 to be exact :) and most of them I have still on VINYL !!
So these are songs that were number ones in Great Britain (u.k.) in the 1970's? Pretty good stuff!
Makes you realize how big Slade and T-Rex were, not to mention, Glam-Rock in general. Never could understand the Donny Osmond love and Jimmy Osmond? No thanks!
I was born in Dec '61 so I loved being a teenager in the mid to late 70's. Also love all the 60's music I grew up with. The best thing now is that I have seen in the past few years Peter Frampton, Suzi Q, Neil Diamond, Eagles, America and others and they still sound fabulous. I waited 30 years to see Rodger Hodgeson (the voice of Supertramp) and that concert would be my groundhog day if I could pick one. Just wish I had the same energy .
60's an 70's the best music i think ! :o)
Brilliant takes me back to a great era
Cheers Keith, glad you enjoyed it!
Best decade along with the 60s ,lets go back in time x

Born in 1960.. So the 70's music was my rite of passage..so privileged..Rod Stewart is top of my list and he sounds as good as ever and still gives me butterflies..Steve Harley..David Essex ..wizard sweet mud glitter band and of course..the Bay City Rollers who I am going to see in concert in December..and relive my youth.FABULOUS..o and let's not forget sparks..I could go on and on. First record bought was Leo sayer won't let the show go on..still love it to this day..

Leo sayer's song was actually titled The Show Must Go On, although I don't think he actually sang those words.
Those were the days when he dressed up as a clown...quite fitting!

Hello gettosleep
RIP Steve Harley.
every song on this evokes another memory for me as i was born in 1961 and had my teenage years in the seventies ,,, i'd go back in a second if i could take my wife and daughter with me
Marc Bolan is the best musician I can think of, at least for me. You just have to love his style.
You cant erase musical history by deleting people like Gary Glitter. Like it or not, they were the music of the time.

First time i knew watching this that "Peters & Lee - Welcome Home" was number one on the day I was born... Love it. The 70s produced some of the most memorable hits indeed.
Your quite right to leave Gary Glitter in your 1970's no 1 list. Disgusting man though he is he did have those No1 hits, rewriting history for any reason is a dangerous thing to do.
Ride A White Swan was held off the number 1 spot by Granddad, Jeepster by Ernie , Solid Gold Easy Action and The Jean Genie by Long Haired Lover
Benny Hill you can accept on novelty factor but I blame the BBC for even giving the other shite airtime.

Absolutely 100% correct. '73, 74 and 75 were by and large the worst years in terms of BBC tame selected singles air play and consequent charts. Slowly recovered until almost death in 1988

Rubettes, Paper Lace, Showaddywaddy. Mud. Kenny, Bay City Rollers et al were what made that 73 - 75 period total dross shite.

if people don't like these videos they should have to give a reason
I'm kinda surprised the early 70's UK charts were dominated by the likes of Gary Glitter, T Rex & Slade., Those bands didn't have much impact in the US, unlike British acts like Led Zeppelin, Paul Mcartney & Elton John, which were huge in the states
Well I thought GG was just our cheapo UK imitation of Gary Bonds. No surprise.
America was too wrapped up in vietnam and watergate to have a good time. That's what 'Glam Rock' was about. Without 'Slade' you wouldn't have had 'Kiss' 'Motley Crue', Poison' etc.
To be honest, as a kid of the sixties hitting my teens in seventies the long dark nights and general drearieness of the UK at the time it's really no surprise kids wanted to scream and shout and bands like Slade; Sweet and Status Quo hit the right notes. I play them even now when the world starts getting too much to give a shit about.
Glam rock just passed the USA by.
For me, the fun started with Mungo Jerry and Marc Bolan followed closely by Slade and The Sweet, what a brilliant start to the decade. I still listen to this music today.
Me too
Good music, BTW love from Pakistan 🇵🇰
Some great songs/memories here, but why the difference in volume, some I can hardly hear. Is it where you got the songs from? that's my best guess :- D
The song was recorded in 1968, and was re-released as a single after Hendrix's death in 1970. It was the A side on a three-track record, and reached Number 1 in the UK. It was catalogued as "'Voodoo Child" (Slight Return), and that is the title which appears on the single and is the title referred to officially. The term "slight return" refers to the song's initial role as a reprise of the 15-minute track "Voodoo Chile" featured earlier on the album Electric Ladyland. Thanks for the comment!
I hadn't realized until today what kind of crap music was being bought in the UK in the early70's. I'm simply shocked!! I can't believe these were really the Nr 1's.
+Andrea Antonini Yeah, Bridge over Troubled Waters...... what a load of crap........
