The X-Seed 4000, Shizimu Mega-City Pyramid, and the Tokyo Tower of Babel were all meant to be a methodical way to make a city inside a single building. That sounds weird, buildings inside a bigger building, but this was quite systematic because now, you can walk from your grandma's house on the other side of the city and stay in the same building. But no one wanted the idea of living in a city that has 1 building. Well, there's a town where everyone lives in 1 building. Its name is Whittier and it's in Alaska. But Whittier is just creepy. Unsurprisingly, no one wanted to spend more than the world's GDP on a 10,000-meter building that takes 150 years to build, so it wasn't built.

You can only justify such massive mega-projects if you have a HUUUGE population to begin with. Japan's population is expected to be halved by 2100. In fact the entire world is experiencing a demographic crunch as people stop having children in sufficient numbers to maintain population growth. Right now we have nearly 8 billion people, with the same population density as Afghanistan at 58 per square km. that's quite low since we have a TON of empty land to build on. It's a shame Tokyo didn't just really go for it with a 50,000 meter pyramid that covers the whole city. Maybe with an airport at the top so planes don't even have to waste time descending. It's got as much chance at being built as one of the other two buildings that have multiple times more building material in them than all the rest of the buildings combined lol.

@@jisooislove988 Impossible.... Japan has limited land for such a huge object so you have to build it where people already live. That means that you have to destroy thousands of perfectly fine buildings, relocate people to other parts of the country cus you removed the housing in the place where they lived and hope that you have enought money, hands and time to finish the giant project you have started. Then you also have to hope that people actually wanna move back to the place from where they had to move in the first place, cus while that thing was being build, other parts of the country was being developed into something else that people actually learned to live in. All that is just too huge a risk. Remember that in order to go all Akira, Tokyo has to be destroyed first.

I always thought that a building's height counting its spire is "cheating", I think its height should be up to its usable space. I'll accept the Empire State Building spire because it was meant as a mooring dock for airships but a spire just to be taller? That's just lame

Yeah !! There’s a rule in place that a spire cannot be more than half of a building’s height. I commented that this list is kinda wonky because there are buildings that are either shorter and/or taller based on their roof and/or architectural/spire/ decorative heights !

@@ascott2168 especially when they are placed side-by-side like here, I can see, sure it's taller because of the spire but if I look at it as a whole, it looks shorter because I don't really think of the spire as part of the building when judging its height

Burj Khalifa would be only around 600-700 meters if the skyscraper's spire is removed. Also, there will be a skyscraper in Malaysia that will be completed in the next year considering the project is almost finished. I think the height is around 650-700 meters. It's also have a spire, a long one. But still, the whole spire is an usable space, because the spire is meant to be an observatory deck.
