A beginner could do a lot worse for a first ukulele. It feels nice in the hands, is light enough, and has a really nice sound. Plus, it's built like a tank and the humidity won't bother it if it leaves the house.
I am so glad you like it, Rich!

Thanks for the review. I have admired the Sakura version of this uke (cherry blossom art work), which was out of stock most places for a long time. But I see they are available again in both soprano and concert size. Good to hear it. I don't really need another travel ukulele. But that has never stopped me from getting one before.

😊😊 If I want, I buy. What's money for, anyway?

Glad you like it. The top is laminated wood which varies with the model. The edge levels vary a bit. My concert top is level. My soprano has a slightly raised edge which I filed down around the arm rest with a mini file but it is not a big deal given that it is a soprano. I am very conscious of sharp edges on larger ukes. The strings will stay in tune well like the Nova Mini. Yes it is not like your others but it is very likeable for its purpose that of a sturdy outdoor travel uke. I rank it equally with the Nova Mini overall but with a different and I think wider ranging sound. Fret wear has not been an issue for me but it does not get heavy use. If I had a compliant it would be that the bag is not at the level of most competitors. Like the mini it is great for people wanting to learn or knock about with but not wanting one that requires a lot of maintenance. If I had to chose between the Nova Mini or Concert vs the Flight travel TUS sopranos and concerts, it would be the Flights. I have not heard of any complaints about fret wear on the Flights.

Thanks, Jeff, for sharing your experience. Lots of people are interested in this and other Flight ukuleles I see by the number of views and comments I'm getting. It's great that viewers like you are telling what they think of their ukuleles. I guess everyone needs one of these outdoor ukes, but I would prefer rosewood fretboard and bridge for daily play. Rich,
The Soundboard and faceplate are wood. They are laminate Linden wood not plastic.
The ridge you refer to is what the wood is set into.. I have played multiple flight travel ukuleles and even repaired one twice. it was stepped on one time and a heavy object fell on it another time.
Each time the Linden wood sound board was damaged.
Each time the repair was fairly straight forward because of the laminate Linden wood soundboard..

I have a Flight Ukulele coming. Notion on the frets. Patch ‘em with baking soda+super glue & then permanent silver marker. Thanks! 😎

Hi again, another great review. When I looked at the website they state laminated walnut top I dont know if that is classified as Linden ? If yours is like mine the strings will settle down quite quickly. As I said before I keep it in my motorhome and it keeps its tune well over a month (now it is over a year old) and very robust. I still love it but not quite as much as my Aklots, however it is good to play straight out of the box (allowing for the strings to settle in) and a great choice for anyone. 2 of my 4 Aklots did require a little filing off the base of the saddle to make them to my preference however others may be quite happy with them as they arrive as set up is still good. As for the choice I think the best solution is to buy one Flight and one Aklot !!
