    I found easy to follow your instruction. I used local cotton yarn, doubled. Increase the base until row 10 and continued until row 28. I made 2 handles instead of 1 like yours. It's sturdy and big enough to carry things. Thank you for the pattern... Love it...

    This is the BEST tutorial I have ever seen. This is my 3rd bag, all from different videos by different people on RUclips. Yours is by far the easiest to follow, especially for beginners. Not a lot of counting and easy to adjust size wise. Thank you!!!

    I’m delighted with this market bag. I have just finished making my first one ever. I wanted a longer strap so chained 90 instead of 60. It sits perfectly.
    Thank you so much, you are easy to understand and a great teacher. 🙏🧶💖

    Just love this pattern. As I am making it, I just realized that I have made it before, a long time ago. It is a lovely pattern and you explain the directions well. Will be making several this time around for Christmas gifts. I am very lucky because my granddaughters and daughters actually ask me to make things for them . It’s so much fun. Thank you for sharing.

    Back again, and what a great pattern! Thank you so much for this video.
    I made another bag, much smaller, to hang in my bathroom to hold my crocheted bath cloths (or it could hold toiletries, soap, or whatever). This little bag turned out so cute! It's about 11 inches tall (unstretched) not including the strap, and the bottom section is about 5-1/2 to 6 inches across. I only did four rounds of the bottom section, then went around it with a SC round (no increases) before I started the mesh section. This made it begin to cup just slightly for the sides. I did about nine rows of the mesh, and one fewer SC round around the top before doing the strap, all in the same color. I tried to make your strap but couldn't figure it out, so I did the kind I did before (Crochet Crowd market bag), only even more narrow for this smaller bag. (I then turned it inside out so the stitches where I attached the end of the strap to the bag were on the back side.) Then I went around both edges of the strap and the top of the bag with a SC edging. It only took one regular 2 oz. skein of Sugar n Cream. I used the color Summer Prints, which is mostly white with small flecks of aqua, lime green, and yellow. It took the whole skein, with only a little bit left over. I'm a beginner and this is my best looking work so far. I just love it! LOL I'm going to make another (before I forget how, haha) to have for a gift. Thanks again for this very versatile and adorable pattern.

    I'd like to offer you some unsolicited advice. Your tutorial was wonderful. Your pattern is great. I was able to follow along easily and made 2 bags that are full of hats and mitts like I wanted. You sound unsure of yourself, you remind me of myself. I couldn't do what you do, I'd be second guess everything I was doing, which I think your doing too. Let go of your insecurities, your great. I look forward to learning more from you. Thank you for giving of your time and talent. I really enjoyed this tutorial and I love my 2 bags. They turned out even better than I thought they would. BTW I looked at a few tutorials to make bags before deciding to follow you. All the other videos either weren't clear or the comments said they're were issues with the pattern. So my comments are based on comparing your tutorial to others making the same bags. :)

      I agree. The tutorial is great, but the "mumbling" and uncertainty is distracting. I frequently had to scroll thru the "rambling". Since this video is 3 years old, hopefully, she is more straightforward in her later videos.

    Really like the bag, great tutorial, not too fast, not to slow etc...I am having lots of trouble with the handle. Been working on it longer than it took me to make the bag. I’ve pulled it all out like 5 times. Never can get it centered no matter how wide I make it! I think it has something to do with those 1st 4 stitch spaces you count back??? Going to try & find another kind of handle.

    Karissa, I can't reply directly to your comment so hopefully you will see this. Sugar N Cream yarn is a cotton yarn and Caron Simply Soft is acrylic. For some projects, some people prefer a cotton yarn because of its absorbency or it's lack of elasticity. Different yarns work better with different projects, but you could easily use an acrylic yarn with this pattern. The only concern I'd have with Caron Simply Soft in this instance is that I find it to stretch more than some other yarns so you'd want to be careful especially with the strap to make sure you work the stitches very tight. Hope that helps!

    I really like this bag, thanks for the video! It's the second kind of crocheted bag I've made, and I like its smaller size. However, I had the "super size" 3 oz. Sugar n Cream and barely had enough yarn, so if I bought the smaller skeins (2.0 or 2.5 oz.) I'd definitely have to buy two of them, especially to stick with one color. I crochet kind of loosely.
    A request: Can you show all the steps of how you start crocheting along the strap? I'm sure experienced crocheters just know, but we beginners need to clearly see each and every step. I got confused, so I changed the kind of strap (to one similar to the one on the first kind of bag I made--Crochet Crowd market bag/beach bag). I wanted to go all around the edge of the strap and bag with a SC border and I ran out of yarn, but I had some white so I used that for the edging. I was using the Strawberry ombre yarn which has white in it so it worked out very well.
    For the strap, I made it narrower than the one on my first bag. I started the strap with 6 SC into the edge of the bag, then decreased at each end of the next row to wind up with 4 SC, and chain 1, turn, at the end of each row. It's a very sturdy strap and looks good, but I like yours as well. I just got confused on how to make it.
    I was going to make a second bag like the first I made, but I think I may make another one of yours instead! I like its more all-purpose size, and it was a little faster to make. I did kind of panic after the first couple of rows of mesh, because it was just looking like a round doiley LOL, but then it started going more vertical. Many thanks!

    • @CraftingWithClaudie
      @CraftingWithClaudie  8 лет назад +1

      Hi there! I took a look back through the video to see what part of the strap instructions I might have edited out accidentally, but I saw all of the steps there, though some of them were abbreviated (like not showing all of the chain stitches since it was just the same thing). Can you give me a time stamp where you see something missing? I definitely don't want to leave a whole step out!

    • @abc-wv4in
      @abc-wv4in 8 лет назад

      I'm not saying steps are left out; I'm just not good enough to follow along! I don't even remember at which point I became confused, but I couldn't get it to work for me. I'm sure it's just my inexperience hat's the problem. Thanks for your reply. I really like this bag and am going to make a few more in the original size and in the smaller version I did. I have a friend who uses the net bath poufs, and I'm going to make her one soon to store them. I may attempt the strap again, and if I can figure out where I'm going wrong, I'll post again.

    Hi, I started making the bag, but when I got to the part of "crocheting the 12 spiral lines", I was noticing my bag doesn't really close up, instead it opens up the more I keep crocheting. I did follow step by step the tutorial, making the 6 chains and then single crocheting. I don't know if its the yarn I'm using (not a cotton). Hope I get a reply because I really like this tutorial and would like to keep doing the bag.

  • @lisettevandelft
    @lisettevandelft 4 года назад

    This video is so good you explain it perfectly so thank you so much. I just had a question what do you do when you ran out of yarn earlier then when you switch to the different color? I'm hoping I can make the 12 rows of the spiral but think I might run out before i can finish that with the yarn. Did an extra round on the bottom.. Hope you can answer this question for me. Btw this is the first thing ever I'm making with crochet or doing crochet at all.

    I’m reading through some of the comments and nobody else seems to be having m problem so it might be me... I’ll still ask tho, I’m doing exactly 12 double crochets to start not counting the chain at the start then building on it I’m putting 2 double crochet in each one of the 12, however I don’t end up with 24 like I should the only way I do is if I utilize the space u said not use....

    I have a question about the handles. I made one of these bags over the last couple of nights, and when I did the handle, one edge is tighter than the other. What I mean is, I wanted a longer strap so I chained 100 times and connected it into the other side of the bag... no problems. Then I did a few more rows of single crochets back along the handle until I finished it. Problem is, the first row of 100 chains is noticeably tighter than the other rows of single crochets so the strap doesn't sit very flat and even.
    Did I do something wrong? (I have a feeling that maybe I did the row of 100 chains just too tight...
    any suggestions?
    Ps... great tutorial. I made the entire bag and I'm very much a novice (been crocheting for around 3 weeks)

      Al Crowley It does sound like the chains were a little too tight. You can try going up a hook size or two just for the chain stitches and that should make the fabric more even. And welcome to crocheting! It's addictive and awesome! :)

      CraftingWithClaudie Hey Claudie, thanks for the tip. The first bag I made (the one I mentioned in my first comment) was more of a test wit a smaller hook and thinner yarn. My main goal was to make a nice big bag, with thick yarn (here in Australia this is called 12 ply) and I'm using a 6mm hook). I'm making this for my wifes birthday later this month (been crocheting for about 4 weeks now and loving it :)).... When I got to the handle on this new bag, I did the first chain run (I did 80 chains) and did them much looser. The handle is much more even on both sides and it's looking great!

      Al Crowley I just read your comment, and I think it is absolutely wonderful beyond words that you took the time to actually crochet your wife a gift like this. I know she had to love it. Something handmade is always more special than something you just pick up at the store. I can just see you sitting there lovingly stitching this bag up for her. I love it!!!

    I have a question. I'm new to crocheting and I'm trying this bag as my 3rd project. I must've skipped a stitch in row 3 when I was joining my rows with a slip stitch and I'm on row 6. Should I undo my stitches to go back to that one stitch or just proceed? It just looks like a little hole is there. It doesn't bother me much since it's my first bag and my third ever crochet project, I just don't want it to mess up the rest of the bag going forward.

      Cassandra Skidmore You don't have to undo your work and go back if you're okay with the space there. You will probably want to add another stitch somewhere along the way so that your stitch counts will be back to where they need to be for the rest of the pattern. If you don't, you might have to fudge things in a couple of other places along the way which wouldn't be too difficult.

    This is a beautful bag. How sturdy is it for the grocery store? Do things fall out easy? Do you have more grocery bag videos?

    Bag came out ALOT smaller than I thought, it’s actually super tiny! Instructions were great until the straps, then they were somewhat hard to follow, ended up just doing my own thing for the straps.

    this was the very 1st thing i ever made when i was first starting out a few years ago. only problem was i used this very cheap yarn and it was very stretchy and i didn't like it. but the purse was very nice.

    for a bag that the increase ended at 60 dc instead of 72 like in your project...how should one adjust the mesh rounds?

    • @CraftingWithClaudie
      @CraftingWithClaudie  8 лет назад +1

      The mesh rounds themselves would work the same, just less pattern repeats within them. If you want to make the bag a little shorter as well, I'd probably just do 3 or 4 less mesh rounds in total. :)

    HI THERE!!
    I am working on my first ever Market Bag! This is soooo easy...ONE QUESTION THO!
    My top (ch2 DC1 CH2) round seems to very narrow :( it's about a round smaller than the bottom...is this right??

    • @CraftingWithClaudie
      @CraftingWithClaudie  9 лет назад

      MzHolliWudKitti The top can come out a little more narrow, but it shouldn't be much of a difference. If you think it's too small, try going up a hook size or two and see if that helps. Sometimes your tension can change after doing a lot of chain stitches (or at least for me it can). :)

    Hi! Thank you, thank you. Your tutorial is the best & believe I've been looking! Hahaha, I've a spool of a 100 % nylon thread from " La Espiga" I think I'll use it for your bag. Have you used this kind of thread? What do you think? Thanks again for your tutorial.

    • @CraftingWithClaudie
      @CraftingWithClaudie  9 лет назад

      Juno Neith I have not used it, but from what I can tell I think it would make a really strong bag. It looks like it might be thinner than what I used so you might have to do a few more increases on the bottom section to make the same size bag. Good luck!

    I'm trying out this pattern and really liking it, but I attempted making it bigger by two rows and now it's not looking like a bag (as yours does) but instead just looks like a big doily. I'm sure I'll be able to tighten the top up a bit and it'll still work as a bag, but I'm wondering if you had any idea what I may have done wrong.

    • @abc-wv4in
      @abc-wv4in 8 лет назад

      Delayed comment, but maybe it will help newbies. It will probably start going vertical after a few more rows of mesh. I was panicking because mine looked like a doily, too, but then it started making the sides just fine. It would be helpful if the bag was shown after every "stage" and every so often so we could see if ours looked right.
