Kindle USB Port Repair

  • Replacing the USB port and adding connecting wires on a Kindle. I had previously repaired this a couple of years ago, the pads on the PCB had gotten lifted by the movement when the USB lead was plugged in and removed but now the port itself has gotten worn out.
    00:00 - Intro
    00:43 - Bezel removal
    02:03 - Unscrewing from the case
    02:55 - Removing the battery
    03:11 - The previous repair
    03:26 - Disconnecting the main board from the screen
    05:18 - Removing the old USB connector
    06:48 - Fitting and soldering the new USB connector
    08:37 - Adding new wires
    11:53 - First boot
    12:52 - Refurbishing the bezel
    15:34 - Attaching Bezel to the frame
    16:33 - All done, and thanks

    This is excellent. I knew a microscope would be essential but it's the first time I've seen a set of electronics files.

    Can you please tell me what part number you used for this micro usb socket?

      I searched eBay for the part, something like "kindle usb port".

      It saves having to discard something that otherwise works fine.

      Why not?
      If you got the time? The port doesn't cost a lot and a new kindle would be way more expensive.
      It's just sad how some people just go really full into throwing away good stuff.
      A real problem with today's society. 🙈
