  • The Kibosh Fast Freeze Pipe Freezing Kit is an economical alternative to the pricey methods that are currently available. The General "Cold Shot" and Ridgid "Fast Freeze" are great ways to achieve a freeze plug, but they're expensive and bulky.
    Enter the "Kibosh Fast Freeze Clamp" which is reasonably priced, takes up a small footprint in your service van, and gets the job done. If you're a service and repair plumber working on 1/2" & 3/4" copper, steel, brass, or plastic pipe this could get you out of a jamb if you're unable to get a shutdown.
    In this video, I do a real-time demonstration of the freezing process of the Kibosh Freeze Clamp and give you my thoughts on what you cant expect. It's not going to compete with the aforementioned big boys, but in the right situation, it'll certainly get you out of a jamb.

    Hello Mr.Sessa,great video as always.The copper pipe press tools are indispensable in this respect because when I was younger and I worked with licensed contractors that taught me I took many an unwanted soaking from having to replace shutoff valves that wouldn't shut the water off completely.Freezing water pipes is a good concept except that in freezing water pipes the pipes may expand in diameter given that water tends to expand when it freezes which can and has led to water pipes bursting.I find it much more convenient to use copper pipe press tools and copper pipe press fittings because as I have confirmed for myself copper pipe press tools and copper pipe press fittings do not require that water flow be completely stopped in order to make plumbing repairs and/or replace failing shutoff valves.The only downside of having to swap out failing shutoff valves on the fly is that you will get completely soaked so make sure that you have at least one towel and a change of clothing with you in case you ever get a service call involving failing shutoff valves that must be changed on the fly.I love soldering copper pipe and over the years I have become proficient at soldering copper pipe but there have been times when the solder joints that I made did not catch all the way around the joint and when I opened the water the copper pipe joint that I had soldered leaked,that happens to the best and to the most experienced contractors and plumbers which is why I love the copper pipe press tools that I have because with the copper pipe press tools once you press the copper pipe joint correctly you do not have to worry about the copper pipe joint leaking.It's true that copper pipe press tools are expensive but think about the time you can save repairing pipes and what's more with copper pipe press tools you don't need a permit like is required with soldering copper pipe.Although I am proficient at soldering copper pipe it has always made me extremely nervous when having to solder copper pipe inside walls and ceilings.It's always great to see you Mr.Sessa,may God always bless you and your family and thank you for another great video.

    Another thing to bear in mind is when water is under pressure the freezing temp is even lower. I'd air on the side of caution and add 20-50% to that recommended time for the plug to form in that case. As was mentioned, wait for visible frost to appear around the adapter.

    Most of my situations are on a horizonal drip drip drip or a vertical drop where the water source is from above.. Rare is the place where I could get 2 or 3 feet from the repair..I once saw but have neverfound some gel filled balls that get put inside the pipes to stop the dripping. Make the sweat connection then melt the balls with the torch./ Bread is laughed at in some circles but it does work. Still enjoyed your video Bob.

    Thanks for the videos, Bob, very well done. I am curious, what is the possibility of bursting a pipe using this device and could this be used on PEX water lines?

    • @BobsPlumbingVideos
      @BobsPlumbingVideos  Год назад

      It can be used on P.E.X. which is "burst friendly", as far a copper goes it would have to be for a really extended period of time which is very unlikely with this method of freezing.

    Hi Bob thanks for showing that video Rothberger has a similar product I have that rigid super freeze for about 25 years works good little heavy to carry around I was wondering if I could use their spray as a supplement so when I do work in a boiler room or on a heating line it would freeze quicker what do you think.(hope you have a answer) I have a job coming up!

      According to the instructions provided, this does not do well in warm environments, you'll use way more product than necessary. I'm not sure about pricing yet for the gas, but you can visit one of the links below to get more info. As an aside, dry ice always did the trick for me!

    I watched your video through an end, but you tested this Freezing kit on the still copper pipe filled with water. My question is if there is water pressure, about 10PSI, (There is no water flow) will this Fast Freeze Kit work? Thanks.

    • @BobsPlumbingVideos
      @BobsPlumbingVideos  2 года назад

      According to the package directions in a pressurized line 40-60 p.s.i. and ZERO water movement a.k.a no faucet leaks, no running toilets it takes 3 to 5 minute on copper pipe. A bit longer on steel or brass pipe and even longer on p.e.x.

    How long does it take for the ice plug in the pipe to thaw enough to restore flow?

    • @BobsPlumbingVideos
      @BobsPlumbingVideos  2 года назад +1

      According to the directions included, 20 minutes. Plenty of time to get the job done. But if you keep topping off you could buy more time.

    • @BobsPlumbingVideos

      With flowing water, it won’t freeze. Water must be absolutely still in order to freeze.

      @@BobsPlumbingVideos Bob, I’m with the FDNY and would like to see how to deal with pipe burst or valves blown off in large apartment buildings where shutting off the main would be a major inconvenience or near impossible. For example we had a toilet valve blow off the threads on the 11th floor of a Project Building flooding everything apartment below. Any suggestions. Thank you.
