Another video in the series I seem to be making around Plymouth Sound. This one is somewhat shorter than the average of late.
This is for the second part of my trip into the River Yealm, which is just round the corner from Plymouth.
The River Yealm has very strong tidal streams, both in and out, and should not in anyway be underestimated. Thankfully I had the engine running, if not in gear, when I started on my way back. Despite me turning around at the predicted HW there seemed to be quite a bit of current still coming into the river, making tacking very challenging indeed. Eventually I couldn't maintain enough steerage speed to complete a tack and had to engage the engine to prevent me colliding with a moored yacht.
During the day, the wind was up and down around the reefing limit and I had plenty of practice shaking one out and putting it back in.
It was a long and tiring day, and by the end I just wanted to get home. This wasn't helped by the wind just dropping away to nothing as I reentered Plymouth Sound against an outgoing tide.
