So how about Abby Steiner smashing the 200 meter record, becoming the first women to break the 22 second barrier in Championship history, and then 40 minutes later running a 400 in the relay more than half a second FASTER than Athing Mu ran when she broke the record? 48.9!!!! What a freakin' beast. And she's a junior; another year to go.

    • @gmaxsfoodfitness3035
      @gmaxsfoodfitness3035 2 года назад +13

      You're comparing an individual 400m with Athing Mu to a relay 400m that has a running start. They're not comparable. You have to add about a half a second or so to get Abby's 400m potential individual time which could be around 49.5 or maybe 49.4. It's just an estimate though. No need to compare these women. They're amazing athletes and would threaten the 4x400 world record if they were on the same team.

    • @DGK284
      @DGK284 2 года назад +7

      Steiner ran a magnificent leg, but you cannot compare relay split times to open 400m times because splits (2 through 4) are measured from a running start and sometimes involve measuring less than 400m, depending on where in the hand off zone the baton is passed. It's common for 400m runners to have faster split times than open 400 times.

    Reminds me of the comeback Mathew Boling had in his last 4x400 relay in high school. As the announcer said he had never seen a comeback like that in college with the level of competition.

    Following intently from the U.K. I watched the 200m final and then this! You have a a superstar in Abbey. The way she burns the track up is nothing short of astonishing. You should be so proud Kentucky. Now for a nice cup of tea. 🤪

    She's not as tall as many of the other women, but it seems to me her step rate is quite a bit faster. Amazing how she seems to speed up as everyone else slows down in the second half of the race.
