not really.. The real message is that universe will make you go through hellish storms, struggles, fights for survival, ... in his case. being stranded on island... the universe does all that in order to make you meet the ONE.
the lady in the end he met.. was always the one.. he would`ve probably never met her had he not gone through that unrealistic unfathomable pain filled fight for survival...

I remember Tom Hanks giving an interview shortly after _Survivor S1_ came out and he talked about how that show and _Cast Away_ filmed at the same time and he was curious to see which one the press would latch onto and create a bigger spectacle over. Personally I enjoy _Cast Away_ and never got into _Survivor._ I think at the time the press made a bigger spectacle of _Survivor._ At least it seemed that way. I think _Cast Away_ is more memorable and long-lasting though.

That shot of the plane going down to the bottom of the ocean is fucking petrifying when you realise how big a plane is and how insignificantly tiny it looks going down into the abyss. The bit where they’re heading towards the water as well still leaves me short of breath no matter how many times I see it. Absolutely excellent filming!

Beautiful. Even after 20 years and a dozen viewings, I still get so emotional toward the end of this movie. While no one has an experience like Chuck Nolan, many of us have experienced an arc of love, complacency, loss, mundane life, and sudden unpredictable events that change everything for either good or ill. The movie could so easily have just had him get back together with Kelly and live happily ever after. If that happened, it is a decent but forgettable movie. But life doesn’t work like that, and this movie had the courage to be honest about it.

I've seen so many movies in my life, I used to have wall of DVD like Bradon, and yet there are many classics that I never watched simply because of timing, them going under my radar, pushing its viewing to later, etc. Once a movie starts being less relavant, but not old enough to be a "vintage classic" it's easier to lose track of them. Then there are the movies that are so hyped up that you kinda get scared to watch because you want to reserve them for when you're sure you're gonna be in the mood for it because you're not so sure about them since it doesn't seems like your type of movie, even though you know you're probably gonna love them anyway.
