@Isaac Rodriguez oh boy... try channel lock pliers. Because the pliers ends may not align... you can utilize this to work on the spool shaft and pin and shove it out. But do carefully and make sure u push the right side through.
You have convinced me to upgrading my reels to hybrid bearing so could you confirm the sizes you used for the GH 100 and the XF-50 / Sprit Fox reels, I need to buy. I want to see the improvement it does on one reel before I replace all the bearing in my others first. I think I need to buy two 3X 10X 4, bearing and one 5X11X4, bearing and one 5X10X4, bearing. Hope you could confirm if these are the bearings I need to buy.
Bearings will do better for any BFS reels! You may want to consider getting both micro bearings and ceramic hybrid at normal sizes so you can see the difference. For your XF-50, get the ray studio, it's 3x10x4 and 5x11x4: www.aliexpress.com/item/32565701258.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.d07e4c4dSMnPgm For Zephyr and GH100 Variants, it's 3x10x4 and 5x10x4 (this is the trouble one). I think you will have fun with this project! Hopefully you can find cheaper ones than the ones i have gotten~! Stay tuned for Micro Bearings for GH100/Zephyr/Dark wolf
@@rawrfishing I figure by winter I can start experimenting with a few reels and take my time doing a complete cleaning and upgrading on a few reels. It might be interesting to test the difference between different bearing manufactured models to see which ones cast better than others. I’m going get a set of ABEC7 Orange Seal HYBRID Bearings for one XF-50 and one set for a GH-100 first being they are seem to popular. It is real easy to tie up a $100 dollars real fast buying a just a small handful of tiny bearing. Thank you for confirming the sizes I need.
it sure can, but the ones i sent you are pretty cheap for micro bearings. if you look at the real japanese one like Hedgehog studio, a set can run you into 40s plus shipping. I got some micro bearings as you saw at the end of the video. I will share those links once i test teh quality. those are pretty cheap too..
Do you use braid on bfs? if using braid for bfs do you run backing? Can you do a video going over pros and cons of each type. Thanks for the vids you do
I barely use braided line but there are folks who does! I change line out a lot due to various testing, so it's most economical for me to stick with mono and copolymer. Most people like to use either 4 strand braid or them stiffer materials, like them Spiderwire or them Berkley FireLine/NanoFil. Soft braided line are no good! I ran that once recently with my new Tsurinoya Dark wolf and I had to take it off after doing my snakehead fishing challenge and a cast test. ton of line wrapping around the rod and over spooling was a nightmare. I tied directly onto my spool by tying into one of the slots. just be careful when tightening as the spool is sharp and can cut your line. I can possibly do some line videos in the future, but after i learn more about the brands out there that other folks uses. Afterall, I started my BFS journey not too long ago and currently just exploring primarily reels right now. One thing about using braided line is that you should properly set your drag. Also don't try to force snap a line if you snag via pulling back on the reel. you may warp the spool!
no problem! I wish i can provide more info, but I mainly use braided line when fishing frog lures and for snakeheads. I try to stay stealthy otherwise lol. Glad you have found my channel! Hope you stay for the long run! Close to 400 videos now :O
I use SeaKnight Nano 6LB braid on my SpiritFox with a 30-40cm leader from fluorocarbon, so far very happy with it. I also tried fluorocarbon but I find that braid actually flies further and causes a less overrun.
nice Vasili! thx for chiming in! i don't have enough experience with braided line on BFS stuff, i appreciate you jumping in! i am sure Shroom does as well!

@raWr Fishing High, thanks for that appreciated 🙏. I have watched someone else's video, was it yourself that was referred to with regards to a good deal of input to kastking, for the Zephyr model 🤔. You were refered to as a friend at raWr fishing by the film provider on you tube. Thanks again for replying All the best Les.
Great video. Followed your youtube link for the ceramic bearings. I see a number of types including Air, Full Ceramic, Microceramic BFS style.... which is the best for distance? And which particular pin remover did you use? Thanks.
Well i never used full ceramic and the Air bearings are higher end stainless steel bearings compared to the generic orange seals Micro bearings are nice for light lures, but you can't cast far if you have heavier lures. Which ones i like better? it's totally subjective on the day/mood/setup and lure i am throwing lol. I am about to switch back to the Air Bearings (these) in place of the Roro to mess around some more. Rergardless, you can't go wrong with either ones that I have used when compared to the stock bearings!
It's hard to answer the first question. It all depends on lures I want to throw, line i use and rod i use. Let me help you understand a bit more and then you can decide! Ceramic Hybrid Bearings in normal size, so it can technically spin faster and potentially can help you cast lures further. Micro bearings (whether it's stainless steel or ceramic hybrid) allows you to cast lighter lures easier, but you will likely get less distance. Imagine you have a tennis ball vs a basketball, roll them. which one is easier to start off rolling? which one will hit max speed first? and which one can travel more distance even though it can't hit max speed? For the Zephyr, because You can't really cast things down to the 1 gram level, it's probably not needed for micro bearings if distance is your goal. But if you don't need distance, micro bearings does shoot out easier, meaning you will use less energy to cast. Bearings impact every setup differently as everyone uses different tackle! hope that helps a bit. I feel that I will put these back in soon and play with it more.
I'am going to get the ceramic bearings. I need to see for myself then which I prefer. I have the Roro micro bearings installed on my zephyr reel. Have not had time to try it out . I have been mostly striper fishing. Thank for the great vid and info. I got a good crappie spot that ill be going to this week taking my zephyr combo. Thanks again .
@@damiangonzalez615 definitely wanna try it! if you got a longer rod, say a 7 foot Light rather than a short UL, i would say you would benefit with a full size bearings in ceramic hybrid. I will likely swap some stuff around soon to fiddle! hope to answer this popular question for everyone!
Bearing upgrades are amazing. Keep in mind that after you upgrade, lures comes out faster and easier. You may cast further, you may not! You will also need to adjust your brake settings, tension, and casting afterwards to see the best results. Some folks give up because it's not how it perform for them. Any how, I am not familiar with that reel, but looking at Spool Hi-Speed page, you can figure out what you need and order else where if you want cheaper ones: www.spoolspeed.com/collections/lews/products/lews-spool-hi-speed-full-tune-kit?variant=15344152576045
DarkWolf! I wonder if you looked for the actual reason of why Tsy reels have spool and handle slipping and whether it can be fixed somehow. I own a SpiritFox and haven't caught anything big on it yet so I don't know how that looks. But I definitely don't want to lose big fish.
onde conseguir esse pratico alicate extrator de pinos dos rolamentos, que o senhor usou neste video para a troca por rolamentos hibridos de ceramica? GRATO!!
I used the Pliers from Boca Bearings. but it's a bad plier. it started to warp after 2 years of light usage. I have not found one that i truly like, but they have a bunch of cheap ones on Aliexpress. Just give it a search :)
Those are AMAZING casts considering your rod is only about 5.5 feet long! I am just getting into BFS fishing as well, just bought the Zephyr and had intended to pair it with a 7'3" Dobyns Sierra (I fish lakes from shore a LOT but I also intend to use it with my Colorado Fishing pontoon. Now I'm rethinking that 7'3" wondering if I really need that length considering you are spooling 90% of your reel out off a 5'5" (I'll be using 4 lb braid). Anyway, I followed your link to the bearings and set it for model GH100 but there are 4 different bearing types as choices. I'm a little confused as to which would be most appropriate. I emailed him and got an auto-reply that he is on vacation. Which bearing type would you suggest?
Don't forget that I am using American 4 lb test line, which is really 6 lb outside of the US. If i were to use true 4lb test or thin braided line, it would go further! that new rod will be fun! For SDS Custom, select Air Type for this same Bearing or BFS for Micro Bearings. These bearings will do better for heavier lures and for distance while the micros will do better casting lighter lures as it allow the spool to start up easier. Welcome to BFS :)
Thanks again for the quick reply. I turn 67 in a few months so this definitely falls under the category of teaching an old dog new tricks! Very informative!
That awesome vlog maaan. Can i copy your? How long that leader and diameter? What PE Braid you use? Is sufix? What diameter /lbs? Thanks.. Cant wait to have zephyr
Thx! I will be honest. I don't remember what I have used in this video. Made too many videos lol! I would suggest 8 to 10lbs of your favorite braid. Leader will depend on your rod guides as well as what is needed. Sometimes I have short leaders like a yard or less.
Hi hi! I believe you can buy on aliexpress. Just reach out to kastking from there or try support team from the UK... if they got one lol. Last time I checked i could order one but I had to wait.
So did you find the microbearings or the ceramic bearings to be the best upgrade on this reel. I had a gh100 and found it to feel a bit plastics, especially the brake setting , how does this compare to the Zephyr?
Given that all CDM reels (this Zephyr is no exception) can't really cast 1 gram lures and at the 1.7 (1/16th oz) is still quite difficult and short distance, I feel that micro bearings isn't really necessary. Afterall, Micro Bearings reduces casting distance. but if you don't care for casting distance and love to sling out lures short distance at east, micros are great. The GH100 is truly low end in my books. out of all my reels that I have ever purchased, it's at the bottom. The black knight would surpass it in feel and performance.
@@rawrfishing thanks, that’s really interesting. I’ve been using the Tsurinoya kingfisher this past season as my ultralite spinning reel on my channel, and I’ve got to say I’m really impressed!!! Every bit as good as my shimano stradic ci4 ..... it’s handled some big fish with ease
Out of the box new, the Zephyr is 100 times better than the GH100. The GH100 was a terrible reel out of the box: Lack of lubrication and over lubrication of the bearings. Many people also have bad experience with the GH100 for many other reasons. It just shows that their QC is bad. There are now many other GH100 Variants available that are likely with higher quality QC.
Thanks mate! I am told that I am a nice guy :). I hope you enjoy the reel if you are getting it! definitely would work better after the upgraded bearings! Make sure you check out my other upgrade video too with Micro Bearings!
Lol it sure looks amazing. It's interesting that most ppl are interested in the reel where as you are the first and only person that commented about the rod haha. Let me know if u got any questions on the rod... most of the time... rods are a shorter discussion than a reel ...
Air type i belive is a hybrid of aero grade stainless steel outer layers while the bearings are ceramic. Its normally quieter than full ceramic and the benefits of full ceramic isn't much. Weight reduction of the inner race doesn't really do much at this point.
Thanks man! coming soon to the states, but it's been sold out on Aliexpress on launch. I see them on Shopee, but it's for south east asia folks. so hang tight! I will let people know when they release it in the states on Amazon
So based on my current collection of China BFS reels, I rank them in the following order based on quality out of the box: KastKing Zephyr, Tsurinoya Dark Wolf, Tsurinoya XF50/SpiritFox, Fishband GH100. I have to say that my GH100 is better than my XF50/Spiritfox because I tuned it and because the Two tsurinoya reels both have issues with the spool and handle slipping and have caused me to lose fish and backlash.
Hi, i saw on the sds website that there also purple bfs bearings. But are they more performing? And the pliers you use to remove the pin, is it specific,? Finally, sorry but i sent you a comment on the video " Tackle Talk: Budget Tackle Tsurinoya rods", i ask you if you can. Thanks for your patience
Micro Bearings starts off easier than full sized ones, which is beneficial for you if you want to throw lighter lures under 3 grams, especially closer to the 2 grams. If you plan to throw stuff 5 grams and higher, full size could potentially give you more distance. It will all depend on your line, rod, lure and casting techniques. You can look up the SDS's inventory for their spool pin remover. They sent me one recently and so far it works great! That one video is not mine so I don't really get notifications from it lol. or at least I can't see it from my Administration Tools. I get so much comments that comments on other people's videos normally get washed out >_
You're righr, sorry i got confused. Thank you for the answer about the micro bearings and the their spool pin remover. I practice trout area in the lake with ultralight spinning gear. I use 3,5g spoons, with 0,16 diameter nylon line. Now this technique i would like to do with bfs castin equipment. Could you recommend a combo( rod-reel ), of a good quality, has an acceptable cost? I thank you again for your patience.
@@marcofaenzi3019 the KastKing Zephyr Reel and Rods are pretty good and the Tsurinoya SpiritFox BFS and the Ares Rod (C472UL) are great too. Both I would recommend to swap to the micro bearings and you will have a blast.
Hi, thank you for the tip for the reels. For the fishing rod throug, it's too shoort. I would like it 2 pieces , ( always with the solid carbo tip ), because i find it better with a length around 1,90-1,95 meters. I know that i am boring you with my request, but you have deep experience and knowledge of the subject and i am a beginner. I took a look in the web, but in Italy the technique i would like to practice is still unexplored field. We are not ready yet. I really appreciate your judgment. Thank
1.8 vs 1.9 isn't that far for the Zephyr Rod. You can try The Tsurinoya Dexterity C632UL. that is 2 pieces and 1.8m. Other than that, I think you gotta explore yourself to see what will fit your preference. best of luck!
What is your favorite BFS setup(reel/rod/line with -3gm lure/baits) I would love to know and why? Thank you, im just getting into BFS baitcasting Nice video thank you again
I have so many reels that it's hard to pick. But given Yen is down and importing a reel is cheaper than ever, I will have to say Aldebaran BFS 2016. Great out of the box and have room for upgrades. Spool is large enough to handle larger lures, but light enough for lures down to 1.5 grams easily. Rod wise.. Tsurinoya Dragon is a great one
I use CRC Brakleen. Don't use the non-flammable one or the environmental friendly one. Those are not gonna work. Some folks use Acetone, I have tried nail polish remover with success... Some folks use mild dish soap and warm water, but i use that just for the orange seals for those that actually uses that. Chemicals like above would likely eat away the seals lol. Use a glass jar, not plastic, fill enough so it soaks the bearings completely, swirl around a few times, let it sit, swirl some more. take it out, place em on a chop stick, then use an air gun to blow clean!
That is because its a short shaft spool! The other one isn't really used. This reel is based on the Crixus body... which uses a full shaft spool. If you don't have anything in there to hold the shaft pin. The reel will not work. And even if its a long shaft spool, you won't need it. The bearing on the tension knob is only used when you overly tighten your tension knob. In the bfs realm, that won't happen as you fish with zero tension. Hope that helps clear up any confusions that you may have!
@@rawrfishing Thank you, I understood your explanation. If you know the measurements of the axle brake bearing (not in the knob of the handle), please write.
LB of braid will depend on your fishing. I would first figure out what rod you will be using and technique, but be warn that this reel isn't made for the lowest UL. at best its at the upper end of UL and is better as a L and ML BFS Reel. Too thin of a line can slip past the side of the spool and get tangled inside the reel. I have tried using this budget reel to handle a lot of UL fishing and I have removed it completely out of my UL Arsenals. It is now only on L and ML, so I use thicker lines. I am not picky with brands, but If i had to recommend a reliable one, it would be Varivas, it's Japanese line! I would say try their entry all rounder line such as the Varivas 4 or Varivas 8. Start at 1 Gou diameter and that should go well with 8 to 10 lbs mono. I use Varivas Absolute CB Mono a lot this season!
This ebay retailer has a "full ceramic" version, in addition to the air type and orange type bearings. Has anyone tried full ceramic bearings and know the pros/cons?
I have seen it but there shouldn't be any more better performance from the spinning aspect; however, it is better than the hybrids for corrosion resistance. You will also find the full ceramic bearing much more louder.
I read that the shape of the ceramic ball makes it harder then steel but only in ball shape and since ceramic is like a stone it can file down a tail into the bearings walls maken it slower over time and not much time but with steel walls its has alot more time to wear out the bearing walls
They are all nice and better than stock. If u want to throw lighter lures, go with the micro. Roro sells those and sds sells the rays studio purple ones I believe. Those seems better than roro just because of the clip
Yeah I just bought mine from boca bearings like a week ago. I haven’t even tryed it yet. I just noticed the pin on urs was shorter and thought maybe there was a reason for that. Thanks for the reply though
Let us know how it works. I hate the asia ones where's u screw in and push the pins out. All these CDM reels have pins that are stuck hard and it strip every single aluminum pin remover for me....
Bearings don't matter if you can't buy the reel. Aliexpress had 6 Right hander when you put out your review video. They were gone in two days. Now no body sells them. What's the deal?
What if The bearings will probably selling out by the time they restock the reels on aliexpress! I guess that is okay since then stock reel bearings were better than any CDM stuff I have played with so far. There are plenty of reels on Shopee for south east asia. Many Zephyr reels have been sold on Aliexpress so there will be plenty of people looking for bearings. I can assure u that ;)
Tackle Warehouse got em at 39.99, but u gotta pay shipping. amazon is a like 46 shipped. there are mixed reviews and I have to say, my pin is starting to bend on the pliers and may even get mushroomed. i think it's due to some spools with improper pins that were shoved in too hard and won't budge. I also agree, the cheap aluminum ones only last a few tries too.. u run into one that is in hard, u likely will strip the aluminum threading.. which happened to me twice >_< Here is the link to the pliers on amazon (afil. link lol) amzn.to/2Wf7JhG
@@chuelee7201 no problem! I think if I had to, I would get another one. Any spools that won't work.. dont force it. Use the channel lock pliers instead. Did that with my dark wolf lol
Not sure! Subjective as everyone uses different lure ranges. Some folks will want micro bearings for throwing light lures short range with accuracy and less power. I also only used this and their micro bearings. Have not used the other

Hi!
I'm a big fan of your channel here in Brazil. Could you send all the measurements of the 5 bearings for Zephyr?
Tnx
Thanks, I only have the measurements of the two spool bearings as portrayed in this video. I isn't have the measurements of the others unfortunately.

I never even thought to upgrade the bearings. Do you know of any for a Lews Carbon Fire baitcasting reel? Crazy seeing you cast such light baits.
People said over greased 1 way roller was the cause. It happened to me for small stock trout so if it didn't happen to you, maybe it won't?
Just ordered me some thanks

Never too old to learn! Especially for fishing!
Do the ceramic bearings need to be lubricated? Or run dry? And how many feet of line in the spool? And what rod is the zephyr on?
no, you can run em dry. 100-125 ft line maybe? Zephyr bfs rod. If you want a better rod at similar price, check the Tsurinoya Dragon.
Ceramic Hybrid Bearings great idea, where did You get throws pliers from and what are they called? Looks like they do a great job.
it's a fun way to change the reel's spool behavior ;) the ones i used are from boca bearing. expensive and easy to break. T_T
Hi from Liverpool UK 🇬🇧 do you know if a spare spool is available for the reel please
Hi hi! I believe you can buy on aliexpress. Just reach out to kastking from there or try support team from the UK... if they got one lol. Last time I checked i could order one but I had to wait.
so after doing modifications on both reels if you could only pick one reel which one would you pick zephyr or the GH-100
Gh100 is not an option. It's a broken reel for left hand folks
@@rawrfishing thank you
So did you find the microbearings or the ceramic bearings to be the best upgrade on this reel.
The kingfisher with shallow spool spinning reel right? I was thinking of getting one for a trout magnet setup.
Qual carretilha é melhor GH100 ou zephyr?
Out of the box new, the Zephyr is 100 times better than the GH100. The GH100 was a terrible reel out of the box: Lack of lubrication and over lubrication of the bearings. Many people also have bad experience with the GH100 for many other reasons. It just shows that their QC is bad. There are now many other GH100 Variants available that are likely with higher quality QC.
Which bearing do u prefer, full ceramics or micro ceramics.?
Haven't decided yet as I throw too many different weight lures. Micro might be the better choice for me

@@rawrfishing thanks for the reply
Why the "air type" over the "full ceramic" bearings? Do you think they are better? Nice vid
Air type i belive is a hybrid of aero grade stainless steel outer layers while the bearings are ceramic. Its normally quieter than full ceramic and the benefits of full ceramic isn't much. Weight reduction of the inner race doesn't really do much at this point.
Where can I buy the Zephyr reel. Can’t find it anywhere. Really helpful videos!
Thanks man! coming soon to the states, but it's been sold out on Aliexpress on launch. I see them on Shopee, but it's for south east asia folks. so hang tight! I will let people know when they release it in the states on Amazon
In your opinion , this is the best baitcasting bfs from china?
Thank you, im just getting into BFS baitcasting
Nice video thank you again
I have so many reels that it's hard to pick. But given Yen is down and importing a reel is cheaper than ever, I will have to say Aldebaran BFS 2016. Great out of the box and have room for upgrades. Spool is large enough to handle larger lures, but light enough for lures down to 1.5 grams easily. Rod wise.. Tsurinoya Dragon is a great one
@@rawrfishing I will check out those options thank you for the reply and taking time out to do so blessings and Aloha from the Great Lakes
What do you clean your bearings with?
I use CRC Brakleen. Don't use the non-flammable one or the environmental friendly one. Those are not gonna work.
Some folks use Acetone, I have tried nail polish remover with success...
Some folks use mild dish soap and warm water, but i use that just for the orange seals for those that actually uses that. Chemicals like above would likely eat away the seals lol.
Use a glass jar, not plastic, fill enough so it soaks the bearings completely, swirl around a few times, let it sit, swirl some more. take it out, place em on a chop stick, then use an air gun to blow clean!
Ola, qual o rolamento ceramico usado nessa carretilha?
Video details should contain what you need. 👍
Hi! Why you change only two bearings? After all, another bearing is located under the axle brake cap.And it also needs to be replaced.
@Sergey Fesik I am not sure which one is that. The two spool bearing measurements are mentioned in the video and the description
Do we need to change the bearing for tension knob?
Not sure if there is one there. But this is a short shaft spool and you won't need it. Cheers!
Hey I just ordered one what what brand and pound braid do you prefer and leader, this is my first bfs set up and I’d appreciate if you helped me out 🙏
LB of braid will depend on your fishing.
I am curious how much can a bearing wear out on a BFS reel compared to say a skateboard or even a normal size reel for heavier lures.
Can get a good read about ceramic bearings at spoolspeeddotcom
I didn't like how they answered the question in their FAQs about if their bearings promote backlashes lol...
So what bearings do you recommend? These? Roro? Or another brand?
They are all nice and better than stock. If u want to throw lighter lures, go with the micro. Roro sells those and sds sells the rays studio purple ones I believe. Those seems better than roro just because of the clip

2.5 is not bad
Bearings don't matter if you can't buy the reel. Aliexpress had 6 Right hander when you put out your review video. They were gone in two days. Now no body sells them. What's the deal?
What if The bearings will probably selling out by the time they restock the reels on aliexpress! I guess that is okay since then stock reel bearings were better than any CDM stuff I have played with so far. There are plenty of reels on Shopee for south east asia. Many Zephyr reels have been sold on Aliexpress so there will be plenty of people looking for bearings. I can assure u that ;)
Don't forget many other reels uses the same ones
Yo, can I get a link to the pin remover pliers you're using? A lot more useful than the generic ones you get off of aliexpress or even hedgehog.
I also agree, the cheap aluminum ones only last a few tries too.. u run into one that is in hard, u likely will strip the aluminum threading.. which happened to me twice >_< Here is the link to the pliers on amazon (afil. link lol)
