The song is called Clair De Lune, which was written in 1890 by genius composer Claude Debussy. The song is French, and the name clair de lune is French for "Moonlight" I tear up whenever i hear this song. It is too good. It reminds me of the past, and how life used to be. It reminds me of peace, which i think is why they used it for a "Peaceful Safe Room" song.
idk the contrast of this song with the atmosphere kinda makes me get a tight feeling in my chest, and I feel kinda sad when I go to the save room. Either way it has strong reactions so it is really a good song :P
Louis Williams This song creeped me out. One, it's on a loop, two, it sounds scratchy. And three, I kept expecting a monster to be waiting for me in the room. That, or the save room would be a deception. There was one chapter where the save mirror was broken that really got me, and another where you were "forced" into the mirror due to some falling debris.
Louis Williams Honestly it invokes a feeling of hopelessness, a gradual acceptance of the the ways things are. I could definitely see this(the original version) being used in a fight scene, one where the good guys are losing, and getting cut down to the last man, yet still fighting. Dunno lol, random thoughts at 5am.

This game has so many psychological symbols and meanings... Looking in the mirror but cant find yourself? Trying to escape this hellhole but the monsters are pulling you in. You fight but they get stronger until you beat all of them. This safe room represents your happy childhood memories where you were careless and always want to return back there, live in the past memories, your golden days as you could call em. Thats the only part of you that radiates happiness. If you look deeply enough, you can finally see yourself in that shattered mirror. You dont care if its shattered. You finally found yourself. You finally found that something you've been looking for all these ages. You found your identity. You found your ability to get out of bed without feeling too heavy or too lazy to do a simple task such as making a dinner, maybe cleaning the house. You found yourself and you finally emerged from a long depression. Sure, he escaped STEM and returned there like when you sometimes miss your depression after being in it for years so it becomes your comfort zone but when you return there, like Sebastian returned to STEM, you look at it from a different perspective. Its a friend of yours who you'll always miss and be nostalgic about but you know that you cant be with him cuz its no good. I really like this track. It helped me a lot.
I’m sorry to “hear” that dude (sorry i had to do it). I’m in the same boat as you. A lacrosse ball damaged my right ear drum because the stupid summer camp didn’t give us helmets. Now I got permanent ringing and some hearing loss. But I hope that in the last 3 years, you’ve gotten some hearing back. 😀
The Evil Within may not be the best horror game out there. But it is for me, i played this game back when everything was better. Listening to this just broke my heart, but i enjoy it
It's been a long time, but every once in a while, a certain flourish will remind me of this song, the endless hours trapped in nightmares. But every darkness has It's light... just have to find it
When I hear this song nearby, I feel so much relief, it really makes me feel that Sebastian can be safe for a while from the game's constant nightmare :) I know I would :P
I actually like the fact that this only plays outside the save-room. Wanna know why? Well, of course, it's a nice and peaceful song, that also sounds a bit sad, leading you to the hospital. There, it's completely silent, except for the ticking of a clock. I think this somehow symbolizes how you're always welcome and safe there, but the time is slowly ticking away, so you have to go again and resume your journey, no matter what. But of course, you may find peace in the recluse of the hospital for a few moments, until you've rested your mind and continue on your dangerous path through the horrors that make up the world of STEM.
La Habitacion Segura de The Evil Within 1 & 2.

I've put it on loop and it's been like that for 6 hours and finished 3 books already. Doesn't bother me at all, when I'm reading. The background noise like the ones in film grains is what makes it relaxing I suppose.
The fact that so many meaning among the insanity of this game can be thought of and found without those to sound far-fetched only prove how deep and well made it is. And as for me? I don't intend to try to find it meaning within the game. It IS insanity, after all. It just doesn't make sense, it just feel... safe. A small reprieve in lethal torment. Clinging to hope, to a semblant of reason, tugging at a fragile rope of comfort. It's not about the meaning... it's all about the feeling.. And i could write for hours listening to this dim moonlight breaking through a thick layer of turnmoil. Sit with me, take a deep breath.. This music isn't about blind, naive hope. It knows the world outside of its embrace is often harsh and unfair. It doesn't deny it. It just want to make you stop and soothe you. A little boost, to fight off sometimes unreasonable odds. Cheering you up.. that you'll see the end of it.. And while i don't know you, reader, i still believe that if you're here and taking this small break.. that you too can do it.
Oh boy, the memories of this game. I remember I was playing a rpg for so long back in sep-nov 2017 and I needed something new, fresh and different to play. I thought I would try The Evil Within so I went up town in the evening and bought it for £10. As soon as the intro started, I felt I was going to really like this game and I did. It became one of my favourite PS3 games. Good times.

Its a friend of yours who you'll always miss and be nostalgic about but you know that you cant be with him cuz its no good. I really like this track. It helped me a lot.
Its very true playing this at age 10 was a blessing

I’m sorry to “hear” that dude (sorry i had to do it). I’m in the same boat as you. A lacrosse ball damaged my right ear drum because the stupid summer camp didn’t give us helmets. Now I got permanent ringing and some hearing loss. But I hope that in the last 3 years, you’ve gotten some hearing back. 😀
Brace yourselves folks!
The Evil Within 2 has just been announced!

Yeah, I forgot a piece of myself in this masterpiece.
I love the mirror ,the song, so peaceful, sometimes I just stand there and listen
Are you still there?

The Evil Within may not be the best horror game out there. But it is for me, i played this game back when everything was better. Listening to this just broke my heart, but i enjoy it
It's been a long time, but every once in a while, a certain flourish will remind me of this song, the endless hours trapped in nightmares. But every darkness has It's light... just have to find it
This song sounds so familiar even with certain that i havent heard it before. Love this game, one of the best survival horror.
i miss my old Friends :(
Me to 😢
Me too , i miss he very much
When I hear this song nearby, I feel so much relief, it really makes me feel that Sebastian can be safe for a while from the game's constant nightmare :) I know I would :P
Same here. I'm like "Oh thank goodness."
It is sanctuary!
Yume Gaming For awhile.
I had a zombie enter the save room once it was so scary :( I entered the mirror as quick as I can XD but when I went out it was still there.
@@johngoldfield6602 yup
I actually like the fact that this only plays outside the save-room. Wanna know why? Well, of course, it's a nice and peaceful song, that also sounds a bit sad, leading you to the hospital. There, it's completely silent, except for the ticking of a clock. I think this somehow symbolizes how you're always welcome and safe there, but the time is slowly ticking away, so you have to go again and resume your journey, no matter what. But of course, you may find peace in the recluse of the hospital for a few moments, until you've rested your mind and continue on your dangerous path through the horrors that make up the world of STEM.
This is true
Played this game 7 years ago and now anytime I hear Clair de lune I get save room vibes..
clair de lune has got be to be my most favourite song right now...
la chanson française my friends
is it still your favorite song?
Even with a broken mind
There's always that sliver of hope and happiness that reminds you of better days
La Habitacion Segura de The Evil Within 1 & 2.
every time hear this song, I feel im also in the evil within but in the save room and see random broken mirrors
I felt like I went into the mirror sometimes when I used to play this game.

I've put it on loop and it's been like that for 6 hours and finished 3 books already. Doesn't bother me at all, when I'm reading. The background noise like the ones in film grains is what makes it relaxing I suppose.
Sounds like a lit fireplace. It's an excellent white noise.
Reminds me a bit of Bioshock.
Tobias Meder
Tobias Meder I agree, it does feel like the Django Reinhardt version of "Beyond the Sea" with Grapelli playing the fiddle melody
Tobias Meder ikr
As others have said, which I agree with, the in-game version of this song is better. I LOVE that old-timey, grain-y, static-y sound!
Good times.
I really want the evil within 3...
😢
This game was really good, this room was the best for taking a pause
I miss playing this with my buds. A friend and I legit beat the game in my 12th grade year. Never will forget that time I spent at his house. Especially since it had been almost every weekend

this game has a special place in my heart. I played a lot of horror games back in the day, when I was in school I've had a friend that he knew I was a big Resident evil fan and how much I love horror games. He introduced me to this game and I freaking loved it, To this day I still play it and I enjoy every moment of it. And the music it self is a truly masterpiece. Thank you Shinji Mikami.
The songs name is Claire de Lune. Its French for moonlight
Interesting...maybe its a tribute to the moonlight sonata in resident evil 1
twister1077 Wouldn't be surprised since The Evil Within is essentially a tribute to the old style of survival horror games.
Philip Sinagra Claire de Lune is a very old melody.
twister1077 Philip Sinagra No, it's a piece composed by Claude Debussy, a French composer over a century ago. The game developers are just borrowing a segment from the piece to use in the game.
Jeff Li I'm not really suprised, considering the piece is public domain, along with Moonlight Sonata.
I just had a tsunami of feeling just hearing to this
nostalgia, happiness, sadness, calm but also fear
I miss the good days
This song didnt leave my head for months after I played this game. I had always respected survival horror but this game just made me appreciate it on another level. Heres to the many games that change us...
Thank you, beloved creators of The Evil Within for making me remember and listen to this beautiful piece again.

I beat it on Akumu 4 years ago, love this game..
A sudden panic and sadness produce calm and relief to run through you. Beautiful piece.
It’s nice to listen to this song when you are alone at home, raining cats and dogs, no lights, hearing thunders close to you and feeling the presence of someone close to you.
Me everytime I entered the room before the mirror, I calmly open the door just to respect Tatiana's presence
She is so mysterious i like that a lot
I hope I am not the only one to think this, but was anybody else strongly reminded of the movie Shutter Island? In any case, this feels so right. I don't think there was a better musical choice possible for this game.
not that you mention it, a bit. this would be a perfect track for a horror film too actually lol
Iv'e had this video on loop and it's been almost three hours. I can never get tired of this song and the memories I have with this game. It's so calming and all I think about is Ruvik.

The most iconic thing about this game,it just brings tears when i hear it,even though the game didnt make me cry while i played it

It's beauty how a horror game can change your perspective of a very big amount of things,I was playing the evil within,my girlfriend broke with me,my grandpa die,and a lot of bad things, happens with this song I give myself the will to stand up,the idea of something a song that relax yourself and give you hope was one of the better things that I have experience in a horror game
Be strong friend! You are not alone
I can't help but cry at this song I miss all the times I had while I was on this game and the friends I talked to while playing it I miss these times and it makes me think how time flies...
