The amount of respect in this tiny crowd is killing me,, It makes me want to get into the speedrunning community more like they're reinforcing his victories and sympathizing with his mistakes, theres no heckling, just polite commentary from the narrators and respectful clapping when necessary. Years ago I was never able to beat Expert mode whatsoever. Hell, I could barely beat advance without using a continue (damn Arthropod). After watching last year's runs, I wanted to try some of the tricks myself. I think I spent months practicing. I was finally able to unlock master for the first time in my life, and then after some time i was finally able to beat master without losing a single continue. Anyone else who sees this and thinks it's impossible, give it a try. It's completely worth it when it finally pays off!
I need me a copy of this game and a GCN controller. I have a Wii so that saves me the trouble of buying a Gamecube. One thing I like about this game is that it is pure skill with very little manipulation involved.
Casually i think the that Launchers stage isn’t that bad. I kinda just found that if yiu turn a certain way in the air its like a guaranteed win. But what got me was stages like that weird tower looking level. I think it’s actually called tower....i believe it’s in the melting pot level? I could never beat that. Edit: it’s in the amusement park level during story mode. I think it’s in melting pot level in the challenge mode! It is indeed called tower.
I bought SMB1/2 and started speedrunning them just because of AGDQ and all the runs I saw there, it is so much fun :D The only SMB game I ever played before was Touch & Roll for the DS like ten years ago xD
“It’s called arthropod, it might ring a bell to anyone who was traumatized by it.” I was playing monkey ball casually about 15 minutes ago and got stuck on that stage for a solid 20 minutes. As a kid it took me days to do it lmao. Traumatized is a good word for it
Due to the physics of SMB2, ramps or falls create speed due to game gravity and it allows you to be a little faster. Some worlds are harder to do than others (Ex. World 8)

I was stuck on 4-10 for months. I was so upset. When I finally got it, it was one of the best days of my young life.
I couldn't even reach world 4 since i was having too much trouble on 3-2, 3-4 and 3-5, plus a couple others on world 3

GDQ really needs to do a "All Challenge Mode" run. I've never seen a run of the Master/Master EX levels.
Usually Expert runs include Master mode.
