When I raised my daughter as a single mom, I too told her what Naomi told Way, " Never let them tell you who you are". My daughter is bi-racial, her father is black & I am white. I never wanted her to feel like she had to choose One or the other, I told her you are black & white and don't ever let anyone make you choose one or the other, you are both. Surprisingly in this day and age, she was born in 1985, and she did encounter several situations where a person who f authority wanted her to identify as one or the other, and I'm such a proud mom, she never has wavered. She has stayed true to herself. 💜💜💜
