2:26 this whole moment completely sold me on Iñaki Godoy as Luffy. That smile isn’t just a good impression of Luffy. That smile just straight up IS Luffy. It’s like, 100% uncut Monkey D. Luffy. It’s perfect.
It really does encompass how that innocence he has can quickly become menacing and almost sinister when hes got reason to hurt you and hes got the advantage.
What’s crazy about kuro here is that he doesnt even have a devil fruit power yet the cgi makes him look like he’s speeding around as the flash or quicksilver

Alexander Maniatis as Kuro was top tier casting. Can't really think of any other actor that would've done this character justice from the anime as well as he has. This whole fight scene is proof of that. I feel he would make a great Joker for James Gunn's DCU. Because he not only looks the part but his vocal range sounds very similar to that of Mark Hamill's Joker if you listen carefully to his entire dialogue in this scene.
Bro was a legit villain, his ambition was just way too low. He didn’t think big enough and so couldn’t grow. If he was serious about putting in the work to get stronger, his abilities would go extremely hard if he could enhance them
The live action isn’t just for anime fans it’s to get people into the show series and it does a very good job of it the Ussop actor made me like the character way better i enjoyed the dark take on Nami Zoro was the best Sanji was ok and Luffy grew on me with each episode
Honestly whole point of this live-action is to hook people who are just not enjoying anime at all or are just not into anime / never watched it etc.. and they did it amazingly, I see that people who never watched one piece are very satisfied and interested, I even managed to pull a few friends and watch it, they even consider trying anime and they are not fans of anime at all.

This really bugged me too when I watched it, but I guess it comes down to the way they portraied the character here. Kuro is very plotting to the point of being overly cocky, even taunting Luffy instead of finishing him when he has the chance. He describes himself as a master tactician, so when he's hit by Luffys punch his facade starts to crumble and he loses control. It kinda works for me...but it looked aweful imo. Great series tho
@thevutvut. It's just how the show works. If you couldn't see anyone from how fast they move the show wouldn't be fun to watch. It starts by showing how fast they are but it slows down when it switches to Luffys perception. If Luffy can tell where he is so can the audience.
I definitely prefer the live-action version over the anime. There's just so much more character depth and not to mention there's that evil fucking laugh my goodness. I feel like the live-action version isn't as unhinged as the anime version.
I know putting CGI is sometimes a real pain in the ass consuming time and budget, but I think they should’ve made Kuro’s claws CGI. No matter how light they make the props, those blades will sure be too heavy for the actor’s fingers to do quick movements and intense fighting scene
Could've been worse. The claws live-action are actually tanto-blade-length rather than the manga/anime-accurate katana blades. It was a pragmatic choice on the producers' parts.
Honestly, I wasn't a fan of the super speed blink thing they had Kuro do. I feel like instead of doing that, they could have played into the horror movie villain thing he had going, he could have hit the lights and in the darkness he appeared somewhere else, or maybe in a momentary distraction where the camera looks away, he suddenly appears behind or something. The acting and all that was good, I just thought that blink was so out of place. Especially since Kuro wasn't a devil fruit user and was supposed to be a normal dude.
As we get further in the story, it will become more clear that there’s a lot of frankly superhuman stuff “normal” people can do without devil fruits in this series. Even this movement Kuro is doing is an incomplete version of an even scarier speed trick that can be learned through special training.
I like kuro's claws or whatever there called he was acting shady trying to close doors as quick as possible so far he the only one that has made luffy bleed from his chest area
The way he got it was when he was paralyzed after ace died and when jimbei was carrying Luffy around Akainu tried to get them and his magma burned Luffy’s body basically causing those scars.
In the manga Kuro needed to load-up before he could use that fast speed, which was done by him posing in a certain way and swaying left and right with his head down - they should have included that better in the show - because as you write it's difficult to see why he wouldn't use his fast speed during the entire fight here. In the manga he wasn't given the chance to load up after the first hit or so.

Instead of using the speed to attack indiscriminately, he’s using it to reach positions from which to hide or attack. I loved this scene and the music when Luffy caught both his arm and delivered Gum Gum Bell. You start to get a sense of how strong Luffy really is.
