There was no limit to my anger when watching this drama. I could not understand how he became such a horrid person. This woman loved him and understood yes he is king meaning he gonna have a lot of women and have a lot of kids. She did the best while not being jealous and evil. Her only crime was loving him and he had no trust or love for her. When she cut her hair I was so happy.
May I have your opinion of the English dubbed version of this drama?
@@TanYaTantan I had no idea there was an english dubbed version and can't really find anything. But from experiencing another drama dubbed in english I would guess it wasn't the best.
That feeling exists in many today,, You cannot believe that one person you love,, who is so beautiful in every way,, wants only you and you alone.
Even if you're king,, to himself behind closed doors he is just another man, with all the frets and insecurities everyone in the world feels. He over thinks and over boils,, difference is he has the power to make heinous acts on the spot,, believing he has been cheated. It is always to late when you realise the ones who love eachother so much,, we're true. Strange,, how so far in the future from that time,, as in now,, the infidelities take place so much more often.
@@MikeWildfrog I don't think infidelity takes place more often it just nowadays it's is more talked about also in the past most of the time men could have and marry many women so it wouldn't be seen as cheating but nowadays. Most people are monogamous. Also the threat of being exiled, shamed and killed is not an issue nowadays so people just leave or cheat.

When Ruyi held her heart crying, I cried for her. The Emperor continued to break her down because of his own insecurities.

This drama is so well written! You can see the whole arc of this love story from blossoms to death. You can see how absolute power corrupts and changes people. It's sad that after fighting for years to be together it was the emperor himself who killed her love for him. I don't like unhappy endings but this felt more like a triumph. She was completely over him. She was free at the end.
What do you think if we dub this drama in English?

The happy ending is that she was finally freed of Hongli who betrayed her over and over again and made her life in the palace hell.
@@TanYaTantan You know what? I appreciate the English subtitles, but I don’t think I’d enjoy it as much if it was dubbed in English.
I can’t speak Chinese at ALL, (although I can recognize some words now) but I prefer to hear the actual actresses and actors voices while just reading the subtitles. I can HEAR the emotions in their voices as their words match their lips, and it’s like I can FEEL it too. What do you think?

That's what Ruyi says at the end. She would rather have a simple life than her hellish palace life.
Most of the concubines in the palace did not choose to live there. Their forced by their families to marry the emperor for political reasons. It's sad because most of them can't run away
I mourned for the courtly love Ruyi lost. Yunche and Ruyi both knew that their feelings ran deeper than just master-servant loyalty or strong friendship. Yunche saw and supported Ruyi through her lowest points in the palace. Ruyi in turn did everything she could to give him a good life knowing she couldn’t return his love. They both got shafted by the people they loved so much (Ruyi by Hongli, Yunche by Yanwan (that bitch)). I always wished there was some way for them to love one another freely. I really, honestly believe that somewhere down the line and deep inside, they loved each other very, very much.
OK but what I don't understand is why didn't the guard tell the truth that it was the other woman who was in love with him or is it because at 1 time he was in love with her and then started becoming in love with the Empress
@@lizzieyvette He was in love with Yan Wan, but he also loved Ruyi very much. Their relationship really took root in the Cold Palace and their friendship/courtship just kept going from there. Unfortunately, even with all of his accolades and good deeds, the Emperor was highly suspicious and wouldn’t have believed Yunche even if he told the truth. Plus, Yan Wan (Ling) and her eunuch friend would have figured out a way to discredit him even if he told. PLUS plus, if Ruyi ever defended him, the Emperor’s (stupid) suspicions would be confirmed and they’d both get the axe. :(

I have never cried as hard for a show as I did when I saw Yunche as a eunuch. I knew what was happening, and it still hurt like crazy. I'm tellin you I was BAWLING. I even had to cover my mouth because I was so loud. I can't even begin to image how much it most have hurt to be in that situation. Even Ruyi couldn't stop at simple tears. So heartbreaking. I'm so glad (SPOILERS) she divorces his ass in her own away and dies peacefully, leaving his royal assnes to suffer.
Can't remember the last time I shed a tear, but seeing how Ling Yunche was treated-just despicable. Now my heart is heavy.
Ling Yuche did what he was destined to do...protect Ruyi. He didn't deserve the Emperor's rage and jealousy, especially after saving her life. Ling Yuche and Ruyi were just friends, but her and Ling Fei...that was different. I cried after seeing him like this...that was very hard to watch.

I was so upset , I was in tears for Ling Yunche. This whole episode was so upsetting and the fact that the emperor used this as an opportunity to emotionally abuse her, sickening.
This makes Ruyi’s final confrontation on the boat that much more badass.
She was tired of his shit.
Side note: Good job to Wallace Ho for playing such a horrible and hateful character. Good acting haha

I sensed he was always a demon even before this life.. different skin but same evil entity .. even before in 600-AD.. as King Henry 8th (watch “The Tudors”) he married her then later pretty tortured Anne Boleyn (Ruyi here) believing others’ lies spread of Anne by jealous ladies and men who wanted her gone and their daughters wed on the throne (like Jane Seymour) and head decapitated her, because she couldn’t give a son- heir (funny because turns out, her daughter Elizabeth I was the only& supposedly best ruler for then England), their 2nd was a boy but due to stress hearing he had accident, and the energy hexes, spells, and curses from jealous ladies, she miscarried (just like in this life scenario, Yongjing was harmed by Nanny Tian and Yanwan) so the after Henry fell from horse he grew paranoid, fearful, more abusive, they had other jealous ladies spreading lies and scheming her demise). I guess if you never learned one life lesson, you’re doomed to repeat it until you learn.. that is.. pass.
His best son fell from a horse (took the death sentence/fall for him, to jolt memory but he was blinded still) it was from Yanwan’s evil scheme to kill the heir, it should reminded him of his past, but Nope!
Ruyi cutting hair meant she really wanted that they never meet ever again in existence.. not another reincarnation, but well the end makes us question.. does Ruyi gets free of this demon? Has he changed? Yunche here was Anne’s kindred brother who was close to her and the stupid king believed the maids and people who doesn’t want Anne as queen for what she represents or did to Henry-got him to divorce Katherine Arogant, those who were loyal to his 1st wife and Catholic church, saying she’s had incestuous relationship with her brother, Preposterous & laughable😂.

I love this drama because Ruyi showed the emperor in the most elegant way the lame man he is. She lost everything but her dignity, the only thing one should never lose.

There's nothing that hurts as much as having to bury your love. Ruyi buried hers here. You think it will end one day but it doesn't.
I was so ticked off at this. Ling Yunche never deserved such a horrible act done to him. The emperor could have just sent Ling Yunche to an outpost along the border. What was done was cruel beyond belief. I really wanted to see his wife get some karma at some point. Ruyi could have tried to find a way to get him out of the Forbidden City, demoted to being a servant to a country manor, banished back to the plains. Instead, Ling Yunche has to suffer pain, hunger, and humiliation every day. The worst episode of the whole series.

You can see over time how she uses to face him to now sleeping with her back towards him. I have never seen such a foolish emperor upset over rumors how many wives do you have??? How many have schemed and killed do to try to have your love and Emperor seat?? And you stand there jealous and showing off such cruelty before to you childhood sweetheart- Empress- and the man who risked his life MANY TIMES to keep her safe AS YOU ORDER HIM TO!!!

If he had true romantic feelings for her then he wouldn’t have helped her catch the emperor’s eyes. He knows that the more attached lady Ling is to LYC, the less likely she’s to rise in the ranks. JZ is only out there to look after himself using her as a leverage. You’ve misunderstood his character and intentions.
