Ynys Enlli: Island of ancient legends becomes UK's first dark sky sanctuary | ITV News

- I had seen pictures of the night-sky at Ynys Enlli and knew roughly what to expect, but nothing prepared me for seeing it with my own eyes.
Known as the 'Island of 20,000 Saints', the tiny outcrop off the coast of north-west Wales has been an ancient place of pilgrimage for more than a millennium.
In medieval times, three visits to the island were considered the equivalent to a single visit to Rome.
Now it's attracting pilgrims of a different kind, who travel to Enlli, also known as Bardsey Island, off the Llyn Peninsula just to watch the stars.

Gorgeous and I bet the silence is deafening,beautiful clear skies . We should all be switching off unwanted commercial lighting, with 24 hour life going on everywhere its getting harder to appreciate the night.

Ynys Enlli isn't in the UK. It's a part of Cymru, and Cymru has no treatise with England to be a part of their precious little club!
Interesting that the people interviewed were clearly English migrants who couldnt speak Welsh. Light pollution is more important to ITV than the Welsh language.

Indeed.The UK is no different from Czechslovakia, the USSR and Yugoslavia and should join them as history.
