    I still can't play this chord. I literally avoid all songs with E.
    E stands for evil chord!!!

      Have you tried using the thumb over the top to barre...? Thumb is widely used over the top by guitar players and it works perfectly well for 'e' and 'd' chords on the uke. Frowned upon by purists I'm sure but give it a try, you might find that it works and brings all the songs back to you that feature this awkward chord shape.

      i tried the way with fingers 2,3,4 on the 4th fret and finger 1 on the 2nd, which i kinda like but it was a little awkward. Then i tried fingers 1,2,3 on the 4th fret and muting the A with my pinky which was working well - then i noticed that when i reach over like that, my first finger can easily rest on the A string and mute it that way without using my little finger. I'll have to test it out in a song!

    Thanks for the tips (and all your other great videos)! I’ve used Option 3 but find it challenging to switch. The song I’m playing steps down from E to E7. So I’ve started playing E like an E7 and muting the C string since I have the open E string. It’s not as full a sound, but it gets the job done and is faster to change to and from.

    Thanks Katie, I have been hiding from the E chord for too long... LOL. I have learned all five of these fingerings, I like #5 a lot. I will be devoting a portion of my practice time each day to get this chord, (in all it's forms), "under my fingers". The transition to and from other chords is now my biggest obstacle, but I know time and practice will take care of that for me. Thanks again for a thoughtfully prepared tutorial on the subject.

    I think you are an AWSOME teacher Katie! I’m an Ukelele beginner and my comment is I don’t know where to find videos of yours that cover the basic Cords and how to place one’s fingers (except for your bar code video) do I need to organize a private lesson? Or am I missing it somewhere? I do see your guitar cord videos, are those the same for Ukelele? Or as it’s a tinier instrument, is there a way you would recommend to place fingers differently than from a guitar? Mahalo ✨Alessandra

    Hello Katie thanks .
    One more and maybe the easy'est one.
    You can bar 4th fret totaly an with youre pinky on the, 7th bottom string.
    Because you have also an option to make a E sus2 by putting youre middlefinger extra on the 5th fret second string .
    Ore make that same E chord and with youre pinky press now string 1 and two 2 on 7th fret.
    And if you leave youre pinky but hold that bar all second frets,you get a C#m7 chord wich are also very common if you playing in E.
    Hope my Englisch is oke.
    Greetings from Holland

    the problem I see with the 4th version is that because a string is muted the sound is a bit thinner and might stand out if played in between richer sounding chords that make use of all 4 strings like C or G... That might just be my impression, though 🤔 What do you think?

    I just can't get any of these to work T_T the most possible one is #2 for me but I can't get my first finger to press down while the other three are down without it sounding muted. One finger always slides of no matter in which position I try it, it's so frustrating

    • @OneMusicSchool
      @OneMusicSchool  4 года назад +1

      Sorry to hear that. I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’ve had a couple of students use the E7 chord but just muted the 3rd string with their middle finger. I might have a couple more solutions for you. If number two works the best, try the same idea but with finger 1 on the 4th string, finger 2 on the 3rd string, and finger 3 on the 2nd string. Use finger 4 to just touch the 1st string to mute it. Another solution is one from my “Don’t Stop Believing” tutorial. It also uses a smaller version of the E. I’ll link it below.
      Most of all, don’t give up. It may take some time, but know you can do it 😀.

      @@OneMusicSchool Thank you so much for your answer! The version with the muted string worked for me and I'm so happy right now! Now I can finally move forward and try to learn one of my favorite songs

    How do you mute the a string??

  • @PeterMossUkulele
    @PeterMossUkulele Год назад +1

    In my opinion you missed the easiest one of the lot. Let me show you how to build it. First play a D7 with your index finger as a Barre all the way across the 2nd fret, Next take your 2nd finger and place it on the 3rd fret, string 1. As a chord number that becomes 2223 and its a D7. That proves you can play a Barre chord. If you can do that move on. Ok, leave the Barre in place with your Index finger and remove your 2nd finger completely. Next, with your Pinky place it on string 1 fret 5 you have just played a D Major and the chord number is 2225. If you can do that, you're almost there. Move BOTH fingers up 2 frets (up is towards the sound hole) and you have your E Major chord. Now I have gone the long way around and now you know where the E Major is a what fingers to use you don't need to start with the D7.
    I'm not covering 3 strings and muting another, not covering 3 strings and raising up so as not to touch the 1st string, not twisting 3-4 fingers. My system uses 2 fingers, your index and Pinky. Also an added bonus, if you move everything up another fret you have a delightful inversion of F Major.

      One Music School but is it ok? Cause once I discovered this way of playing the E chord it felt so easy and a little bit like cheating

    I think the easiest for me as a beginner was 2:10
    The second option is also fine but it the sounds not as good to me.

      @OneMusicSchool I'm actually trying a new method I saw in your comments section where they would hold the first string by the thumb. That works too n I kinda like that alot.

    I generally substitute the E chord with an E7 chord, which is much easier to play.

    3rd variation is impossible for me. My small finger would need to be at least 0.5inches longer to reach the 4th fret.
