@@Yotanou Here’s a link to their most detailed interview/bio with individual sections for every member. www.reddit.com/r/BandMaid/comments/cbvlp7/translation_of_interview_for_bandmaids_future/
Here’s the relevant part from Miku’s section:-
-I think it must have been quite shocking (to your mother) to have made all this preparation in secret. Even then, you were determined to move to Tokyo, right?
M- Even right now, as was back then, I am the type who acts immediately once I decide I want to do something. Also, once I start on something, there is no stopping-po. Once I arrived in Tokyo, I started voice training lessons while doing part-time jobs just as I had told my mother in my "presentation". My part-time job was at a Maid Cafe where we had to sing and perform individually to customers, so it was also a good opportunity to practice singing-po. Also, since I was also working part-time at a Maid Cafe back when I was still in Kumamoto, I thought I should experience doing it in Akihabara, the Mecca of Maid Cafes in Japan, since I was in Tokyo .
-While having the determination of pursuing music seriously, you still did not think about starting or being in a band, at that point in time, right? So, how was BAND-MAID formed?
M- With the determination to pursue music seriously, I tried all sorts of experiences and got to know more and more people. Through these connections, I received an offer to participate in the formation of an "underground idol" [idol groups that do not have mainstream exposure] group-po. With that, I was active as an underground idol for about 1 year . But, while singing cute idol-type songs, I felt "No... this is not it"-po . I didn't hate it, but it was more like I realized that "this is different from the music that I aspire to do". So I quit being an underground idol after 1 year of activity and sent my resume to our current management with a request to do the type of music that I wanted to do. I received a reply of "let's meet up once to have a discussion". During the actual discussion, we talked about what I had done up until then, and I was asked "Are you interested in bands, or something similar?"-po. I replied "Well, I like bands, and I am admire Tokyo Jihen. Also, I prefer to do cool music rather than cute music. But, I also like maids." Then, they said "Combining a band and maids would be interesting." And I said "So, let's mix them together" .
-The eventual result of what you sought was BAND-MAID, right? How did you find the members?
M- Initially, I was supposed to be the lead vocal and I started looking for other members to fill out the band. The first member I found was Kanami through discovering performance videos she had uploaded to RUclips. I contacted her through the management agency. Akane and then Misa joined after Kanami was recruited and completed the line-up quite smoothly-po. At that time, the agency had already prepared some songsand we started rehearsing immediately to prepare for a performance, but it just felt like there was something missing or not quite right. The idea of "Wouldn't it be interesting if we had another vocalist with a voice contrasting with Kobato's?" came up-po, and I personally thought that the band would shine more with twin-vocals-po. So, we contacted almost everyone managed by the agency to hold auditions. Finally, Saiki was recruited.

I honestly find this song impressive in it's own way. Sure it isn't as fast or dense as some other songs on the album are, but in many ways it can be more challenging to create an interesting and engaging song while working from a simpler base. It might not be as technically impressive in terms of the difficulty of playing it but in terms of songwriting I think it's as strong as any track on the album. I also love Miku's vocals on this one, the belting at the end with the bit of whine that is in her delivery is one of my favorite parts of the album.

Her voice sounds so sweet. It's one of my fav songs on the album even though it may not be the more popular with others. So... info from Kanami and Miku... the solo in the middle section of the song (the harmonizing guitars after the spoken section?) was written by Kanami with the intention of Miku performing it at live shows. And the final outtro chorus which is super high pitched... Miku was totally surprised when Kanami sent her the final demo.
Surprisingly this song is EXTREMELY well-received by fans so far, in and out of Japan. Seems like many people wish it gets its own MV as well.

  • @zelbinian
    @zelbinian 3 года назад +14

The end of this song blows me away because... well, let me explain. The last chorus has us leading up to a grand finale, the crown jewel of which is Miku's killer high note, right? As soon as they start building up to it and you hear Miku start ascending up there... THAT is where Kanami drops the craziest lead line of the song so far. Any other band would have the singer hit that note AND THEN drop that lead line in because by rights doing it the way Kanami did it should distract from the moment and totally deflate it. But ... it doesn't. In fact, somehow it enhances it. This is the real genius of Band-Maid. They can play super busy and complicated in a way that makes the song sound even greater than the sum of their parts where in lesser hands it would just fall apart. And despite them doing it over and over and over again, I still have no idea how they pull it off.

Miku in her element really. When I heard she was featured in one song, I somehow knew it would sound like this. It's another facet of the band that they couldn't pull off without her. But, my god, her range is so impressive. Sometimes on her backing vocals, I swear they've added a male voice, it's so low. Then in this one, she is almost in the stratosphere. I like the song too, of course, and it sorta adds a bright spot in the album, like you correctly said, a palate cleanser.

This title and lyrics were inspired from Romeo And Juliet.
(My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep; the more I give to thee, the more I have, for both are infinite.)
And also Giovanni was inspired from Gingatetsudou no Yoru, meaning The Night of the Galaxy Train, which is Japanese famous novel written by Kenji Miyazawa. Giovanni is name of one of the main characters.
I love all Miku's song too.
The Dragon Cries is not bad.

It clearly sounds miku. Can you honestly imagine our ice queen singing in such a cute voice? It'd give me a shiver if she ever does. BTW this is more unique than the last 2 miku songs but still hasn't beaten "time" yet. The tune was so infectious... well even though all her songs are catchy as hell but.

I knew instantly from the teaser video we were gonna have a Miku song. Then it was confirmed in an interview! I absolutely love this song. It's gonna be great to see it live.
Miku said the song was very difficult for her to do f and it took multiple takes. Apparently she kept having Kanami tweak the song and by doing so it kept getting more difficult.

Once you recognise Miku's tone, you hear it everywhere, especially in the backcking vocals. ... And when she takes the lead. - But its an easy mistake to make if you are new to the band. - don't beat yourself up about it. I still feel Miku took a very humble step when she got Saiki to become frontwoman. - That's a huge realisation of one's own limits. - And Miku easy could have fronted a J-pop band, so Kudos to her. - and what does that say about Saiki's vocal skills? Miku recognised Saiki's awsome talent/ potential before anyone did, and OMG, did it pay off! . :)

J-pop(rock) has an upbeat rhythm and vocals have an emotional melody line.
But BANDMAID songs go against Japanese standard style Because this is the BANDMAID style !!

Yes, the overall sound may be a little more towards the jpop style, but I think it fits, like you said, as a little break or contrast to the other songs. This is one of my favorite songs on the album. Miku sounds great, and it fits the more pop rock nature that her other solo songs have been. But Kanami also knows how to still give it some grit in the writing. This is easily the hardest Miku song yet, but it still feels light and airy. I tend to not go into the more pop rock side of J-Rock, mostly due to the tone of most female vocalists in the genre, but Miku's are just hard enough for me to get into it.

  • @warwickprince9712

You are forgiven for missing it was Miku! I actually really like this track as well. To me, it has a LOT of similarities to early BabyMetal. Her vocal tone adds to that feel. The heavier (although short) breakdown metalish bits REALLY remind me of "Early" BabyMetal - in a very good way. There just enough of the BandMaid feels to pull it out of standard JPOP and into something that works in the context of this super heavy album. Always a fan of your BaidMaid reactions - keep up the great work man. 🤘 Oh yeah - I can't wait to see the MV for this one. Cute overload!

From my perspective this is one of the strongest songs on the album and that appears to be the consensus amongst fans from what I've seen anyway. Miku can do it any way she wants.
    Not "may," that's a given.
    "Can" as in ability.
Shining on more guitar as her hard work with coach Mincho is paying off.
And on vocals. Sometimes when singing with Saiki it is hard to tell them apart, especially in concerts just after Saiki's surgery, late 2017- early 2018. I could see her come in on video, but hearing the difference, not really.
But here she does a style distinct from Saiki's.
Has anyone here heard Rick Rack or Fern Planet to compare? Am I the only one who hears a similarity of vocal style?
Neat song, nicely done. Has some heavier sounds included. I'm happy.
    Karuppo!
