This must be the most (down)underrated retro channel on youtube. Well done once again! Due to the size of this thingy I'm thinking of integrating in into the mouse itself to create a modern Amiga mouse with the proper cable. :)
Great video Jason - the mouSTer is a great product for our old retro machines being that it support multiple platforms. I saw the Mega65 guys talking about support for it as well in todays update. Will have to pick one up soon!
Love it! I've said it before, will say it again: absolutely love all of the modern devices you cover here on the channel that bring utility to the retro devices!!
Thank you! I laid it to the side for a few days convinced it did not work. If there were instructions in the package I must have tossed them out by mistake. Works great now.
Thanks for this clear guide; it helped me much more than the manual. As such I've enabled my mouse to move around nicely in the MSSIAH software on my C64. Problem: clicking the mouse buttons didn't work properly when plugged into control port 1; it created conflicts with the keyboard. For anyone else using the MSSIAH, make sure you're plugged into control port 2 (this is actually in the MSSIAH manual, I had forgotten). Also, grab the newest firmware and enable "1351 mouse" in the MSSIAH Sequencer "Options" menu.
What a brilliant little device Well done Retrohax 👏👏👏 just brought one for my amiga A600 and after doing the settings it work like a charm i have now got a wireless mouse for my amiga 👍👏👏👏
Great video - and thanks for the shoutout! I was very interested in the 1351 angle but of course being an Atari guy had no way to test it so very cool to see it (and GeOS!) in action. I really need to revisit the mouSTer as they've fixed some of the issues I came across in my review as well as adding some new stuff. If you couldn't tell already from the review I'm really happy with it, it's a really excellent little device 👍
It's a very useful (and small!) device for many kinds of USB mice/sticks/pads. It's awesome to play with e.g. a Xbox360 controller, using D-pad or even the Thumbstick (it's converted to digital signals). Using one button with normal fire, another with adjustable auto-fire. A player's dream came true! I think you don't need to switch off the retro-computer after the mouSTer read the ini file, just put out the stick and plug in the mouse/pad. At least in my review of the mouSTer the ST was on the whole time and I did several ini adjustments.
As the price of Commodore 1351 mice continues to go skyward, this device becomes more and more relevant every day. Not to mention how cool it is to use an optical mouse in place of the ball mouse that always gets gummed up. Oh I remember those days of cleaning ball mice... I remember.... Ugh!
You mentioned a static-proofing solution for the joy-ports. Is that a solderable board with a pack of Zener diodes or something? Where could I get one of those? Sounds like a must-have for keeping the old Commodores working.
It will work, however full button support is on a ToDo list and will be sorted out with future firmware releases. However nr.2, firmware development slowed down recently due to the focus on the ThED project.
I'd think that it probably would work fine, with the more basic the wireless dongle the better. There might be a risk of confusing the mouSTer adapter if you're using something like a Logitech Unifying dongle that supports multiple devices at once such as mouse AND keyboard. That said, even that should be okay with only the mouse active on it, keyboard turned off or battery removed.
What a neat little device. Already suits many purposes and probably can handle many more. Wonder how many 9 pin mice ports it will support in the end. PC serial, MSX, FM Towns? Who knows!
@@MrLurchsThings Didn't even think of those early Mac models or the Apple II, but definitely handy if they can do it. Yeah, I only saw one mention of them considering PC XT, which I would guess to be serial, but even if they don't, it's very useful.
Hi please can you do a video on upgrading the firmware please? My Mouster is not upgrading to the latest frimware? Im getting the Mouster folder which i then transfer to the pc and i can see the present firmware so when downloading the latest firmware and transferring to the root of the usb stick i transfer the stick to the atari xl and theres some flashing but when checking the firmware its the old one?? nothing changes?

I think the price kinda depends on how many machines you have that can use it. I can justify it (well, buying a second one) but I can see why others couldn't.

I had a couple of time where it needed restarting.
What a cool piece of kit! I do own a 1351 mouse, however I would like to pick up one of these mouSTers.

Nice video, looks like a pretty nice piece of gear there.
Pretty cool. Saw that there could be a revision to have Genesis support. Maybe add Atari Jaguar to the mix as well if the maker is interested.
Jaguar does not use DB9 connectors, so it would require more work.
@@jakub.kosiec oops. You’re right. The shape fooled me. It’s a d-sub 15 connector.

Pretty much, we installed them in the 128D around a year ago from memory. You can find more info on them here ruclips.net/video/-568ZT_v1b4/видео.html
Cheers, I'll take a look!
What About joysticks? Also adaptors like rys mk2 can hotswap usb mice and joysticks on an amiga
Great product, just ordered one. You should try Wheels with an Ram Expansion Unit and make a video about it GEOS sings then.
Ooo, might this work on Amiga CD32? Need to research further. The mention of 16 buttons and 6 axes, along with 360 controllers...

Awsome! Thanks for showing this. Your videos are great. Would that work with a wireless mouse dongle?
same questions for me also

Yup, it works with wireless dongle :)

There is a not on RH's page saying there are/were looking into PC serial. But supporting Apple II/Mac 128/512/Plus would be cool too.

Thx, works perfectly on c64
Cool gadget...I think I'll get one.
Will this work on a C64? I’m hoping to use Geos too. I never knew a Graphical interface existed for the C64 as a kid!
This is just what I've been looking for! No more ghastly Atari mouse for me...
Could this be also be used to use a USB joystick, like The64 joystick, on a real C64? Not just for a mouse.

Doesnt the new firmware going into the Mouster folder on the thumbdrive?
Great review. I read it works with XBOX 360 controllers now.
It'd be nice to have an Australian source for these.
Honestly didnt take long to come from Poland (I've had parcels take longer coming from Perth :/ )
Cool Device, does it support the Amiga CD32 with all its 7 Buttons?
Without a CD32 of my own - no idea. Best email RH's, Pete is pretty responsive.
Update: with the latest Firmware the CD32 is supported
$42 landed? How can you not buy one. It sells itself!
I'd like to see how it handles wireless gamepads and mice such as Logitech with those tiny dongles.
It will work with vast majority of them and it was covered on YT already. If it doesn't work, we will fix it in firmware.

Cool device, congrats.
Will it be available soon?
@@DavideNastri Thank you for the warm words :) We are waiting for the next batch. It is currently being manufactured,
It works with Atari 65 xe ?
I want to use game pad with USB.
I belive so, yes
Does the Commodore 128D have a cooling fan inside it, or is that the disk drive motor I can hear running constantly?
Fan inside.
What is Notepad++ and where do you get it?
Open source: notepad-plus-plus.org/downloads/
Notepad++ for me is a "don;t leave home without it" app
Very nice. The old tank mouse is just crap.
